2015 the Road Trip has begun!

I have started my big road trip for 2015. Not that I have been on others this year since I have been to Anaheim, LA, San Francisco and Albuquerque all of which were great, all great stadiums and traveled with great people! But as many of you know my annual tradition and one of the main reasons I started this blog was my 3 plus week trip across the country seeing for one the Rockies and other baseball along the way.

So this years trip started 8 days ago and yes this post is only about the first 3. It has been a grind of a trip and I have been nowhere for more then 2 days till today.

The first stop I made was on day one and it was the first time I have ever been to Nebraska. It was to Omaha to see the Omaha Storm chasers and The played the Colorado springs Sky Sox which was cool since even though they are not a Rockies Affiliate anymore I still have taken a few trips there this year. After Leaving my house at 8AMish I arrived at the stadium around 4PM. I first got my ticket and then took a walk around the outside of the stadium. IMG_0806

This is the front of Werner Park in Omaha Nebraska, That is a statue of Bob Gibson who was born and grew up in Omaha, so the stadium does have a bunch of thing regarding him around the stadium.

Here is a view of the field before the game the stadium is a pretty nice place it has a large concourse that is open down the first and third base lines. with 2 buildings that have there suites behind home plate. the concourse does go around the whole field and feature many amenities of modern minor league parks such as a play area for the kids and places for large group functions. The Play area and carousel are in the left field area with a party pavilion on the right field side.

Yohan Pino was the starting pitcher for the Stormchasers . He went 6.2 innings scoreless with giving up 3 hits and striking out 5 Sky Sox batters.

The starter for the sky Sox was former Rockies and Sky Sox player Josh Roenicke. He went 5.2 giving up 1 run on 5 hits and did not strike out a batter.

A view of the field during the game. After a few innings I wandered around and took photos from different places around the stadium.

Sky Sox Elian Herrera hit a single to tie the game in the 8th inning. The Sky Sox went onto score a second run that inning and win the game 2-1. Both starters kept there team in the game which is rare to see for us Rockies fans!  The Only Omaha run came in the 3rd on a Casey Kotchman single that scored Jose Martinez who lead off the inning with a walk.

So after the game I drove for about 2 hours to Des Moines, iowa where I sated the night and then headed to Chicago for the Rockies vs. Cubs it was the first time I was at Wrigley and the second time I had been to Chicago the first was when I was 12 or so and I went to the Old Cominskey Park.

I got to Chicago about 2:30 and met up with Mary, Alise, Lauren, Briana and her brother Dave. Everyone is Rockies fans and come from different place Mary and Alise I know from Coors, It was the first time I met Lauren who now is in Wisconsin and I have met Briana a few times in Spring Training and at Coors, she is from Scottsdale. Her Brother is from Rhode Island so we had people from all over at this game.

the Photo above is from our hotel room.

We then headed to the stadium and I took some photos of the cool building in downtown Chicago. it is a cool city with a mix of old and new Architecture.

IMG_1258the train arriving at the station this has been a go to shot in subways for me for years and I also took one like this in San Francisco. lately I have been doing a lot more of street and environment photography in the cities I visit for baseball.

IMG_1262 After a 15-20 minute train ride we arrived at the friendly confines at the corner of Addison and Clarke Wrigley Field.

When we got in the Rockies were stretching and getting ready for the game.

Christian Adames was up briefly and here he was taking some hacks in the cage!

Dallas Beeler started for the Cubs.

Charlie Blackmon and D.j. LeMahieu wasted know time getting hits off him Charlie lead with a double and D.J. followed with a double and a quick 1-0 lead.

Charlie scores the Rockies first run.

Both Carlos Gonzalez and Nolan Arenado came around to score that inning and the Rockies had a 4-0 leat in the Top of the 1st.

Yohan Flande started for the Rockies.

The first batter he pitched to was former Rockies and overall great guy Dexter Fowler. More on that in game to at Wrigley.

We also got to see some of the other young talent the Cubs have such as shown above Chris Bryant.

Jorge Soler and Kyle Swarmer.

Ben Paulsen slides into home for the Rockies 7th run of the game in the 8th inning.

Flande ended up pitching 5 only giving up 1 run on 4 hits and struck out 4 Cubs.

The Rockies won this game 7-2 and Flande got his first MLB win!

No White Flag with Blue W on it this night!

Day 3 of the trip brought me back to Wrigley for a afternoon game on 7-29-2015. IMG_1634Wrigley Day.

So while I was out front taking photos I was run over by someone in a motorized scooter who back into me and then looked at me like I was wrong for standing where I was while he was trying to back up without looking!

Before the game we got to meet up with Dexter Fowler, here is a photo of him and Mary.

IMG_1653he than sent a autograph bat out to here with one of the Cubbies Clubbies for her.

He has always been great to the fan base when he was in Denver and still shows his appreciation for us while he is with another tem this is the second bat I have seen him give to one of my friends since going to the Cubs, Thanks Dex!

IMG_1667It was also the Debut of the newest Rockies and new Shortstop Jose Reyes. Who if you have been living under a rock was trade along with a few minor leaguers for Troy (The Douche) Tulowitzki!   So glad to see him go. But you all know how I felt about him for years and I think it was a positive trade for the Rox.

Eddie Butler started for the Rockies and Jon Lester for the Cubs. Lester pitched 8 innings Butler 5. You can guess who won this one! The Cubs did 3-2.

Butler did pitch well and kept the Rockies in the game and the score close. Lester just owned the Rockies bats striking out 14 but I think the umpire got caught up with his pitching and a few strike out looking calls were questionable. Just my opinion because mot came after the 4th inning and when 6 were looking it is usually the umpire giving the strike zone. But all and all Lester did pitch very good.

IMG_1966Here is Mary, Lauren, Alise and myself  outside of Wrigley after the game.

Ernie Banks Statue outside of Wrigley.

Before heading to St. Louis we stopped for diner at….

IMG_2039..Harry Carays. We then grabbed the truck and headed to the St. Louis.

More to come from the road.

next post will be St. Louis, and some Minor League ball from Bowling Green, KY and Greenville, SC.

You can continue to follow my trip live on twitter @roxaddict

Opening Weekend 2015

April 10th – 12th, 2015

So I wasn’t going to blog this year. I was at Spring Training and did not blog while I attended 5 games in Arizona. I thought I would be able to get away with quietly slip away but after going to Coors and having numerous  people ask about the blog it made me think if I should continue this season. So I have decided to continue but on a limited basis Maybe a post a series or home stand. I will definitely be doing a road trip possible a few and post about them. Here are a few shots from Opening Weekend.

Before heading into Coors had to go check out the chalk art of Kyle Banister.

Tyler Matzek heads to the Bullpen for his Opening Day start.

Pre Game player announcements LaTroy Hawkins with the tip of the cap for his final opening Day.

3rd Year Manager Walt Weis gives high 5’s down the line.

The Balloon release.

Before the game the Rockies player who won awards for last year received their hardware, Nolan Arenado and D.J. LeMahieu got their Gold Gloves and Justin Morneau got his bat for Winning the 2014 Batting Title.

Tyler Matzek the first pitch.

Ex-Rockies Center Fielder Dexter Fowler was the first batter for the Cubs.

IMG_2950Anthony Rizzo got hit during his first inning at bat. He also got hit during his 3rd inning at bat and a total of 3 time in the series.

IMG_2996Rafael Betancourt is back in the bullpen for the Rockies and came into pitch in the 8th inning.

The Rockies went on and won this game 5-1, D.J. LeMahieu went 4 for 4.

IMG_3093Game 2 the Rockies put Kyle Kendrick on the mound and found out about the harsh reality of pitching at Coors. He gave up 8 runs on 8 hits this game and the Rockies received their first lose of the season, the final was 9-5 Cubs

Sunday brought the first bobble head and first autograph Sunday of the year. Which I was able to access the area behind home plate thanks to a friend with an extra ticket.

Got to get this cool shot of the Cubs helmet rack and a bunch of autographs from the Cubs including Dexter Fowler, Adam Motte and pitching coach Chris Bosio.

A creative BNW to show off the mad photo skillz of this grounds crew member getting home plate all cleaned up!

IMG_3158Jordan Lyles took the mound for the Rockies and had a pretty good outing.  The Rockies lead most of the game until Hawkins came in and blew the lead. He gave up a 2 run homer to Dexter Fowler in the 9th and the Rockies couldn’t come back in the bottom of the 9th and lost there second game in a row.

D.J. LeMahieu hit a triple in the first inning to score 3 of the Rockies 5 runs.

The Rockies are now 5-2 on the year and have won all 4 of their road games. They have been hitting very well away this year.

That’s it for this one.

McBride takes one for a ride !

Kansas City Royals vs. Colorado Rockies

Game 2 of series.

This was the second game of the series, I was at the first game of the series somehow I did not take my camera to the game and had no photos so did not do a post. The Royals did win the first game 7-4 Tyler Matzek started game 1 for the Rockies and had a pretty good outing till the 7th inning when the Rockies gave up 3 runs and K.C. too a 4-2 lead. Rex Brothers came in in the 8th and once again melted down, this time after getting 2 outs to the first 2 batters and then faced 6 more batters and let up 3 runs the Royals had a 7-2 lead. The Rockies got 2 back on a Drew Stubbs home run. James Shields started for the Royals and only gave up 2 runs and one was in the first to give the Rockies a lead in the first and the second was a Nolan Arenado homerun in the 5th.

This series I got 3 baseballs during batting practice 2 on Tuesday and 1 on Wednesday. The Tuesday game both came off of Brandon Barnes one was a bouncer that I picked up and caught the second. The third was hit by D.J. LeMahieu  hit about 4 rows behind me a bounced back to me.

The second game Jorge De La Rosa was the starter for the Rockies after a lead off walk to Christian Colon he struck out Omar Infante and walked the 3rd batter Billy Butler, Josh Willingham hit into a double play to end the inning.

Danny Duffy started for the Royals Josh Rutledge started the bottom of the 1st with a single and stole second he was stranded at second as the next 3 batters got out.

The Royals scored the first run of the game in the 2nd a lead off home run by Alex Gordon this gave the royal a 1-0 lead. They took a 2 -0 lead 4t after Willingham started off the inning with double and scored 2batters later on a Erik Kratz sac fly to right.

Nolan Arenado got things started the bottom of the 4th off with a triple and scored on a Wilin Rosario sac fly to center. 2-1 Royals.

Matt McBride started his first game since being called up from Colorado Spring. He came up in the 6th inning with base’s loaded and 2 outs and was put to the big league test and I think he passed! He hit a grand slam home run and the Rockies took a 5-2 lead.

This was his 3rd career home run and 1st Grand Slam.

Here he is celebrating with the 3 runners that were on base.

With the 5-2 lead La Troy Hawkins came into pitch the 9th after a very good game by Jorge De La Rosa who pitched 8 innings Giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, he did walk 3 but also struck out three. He throw 103 pitches. It was great to see a starting pitcher come to bat for himself in the 7th inning! Not something we get to see much as Rockies fans. Hawkins got all 3 Royals out in the 9th and the Rockies won this game with the 5-2 to split this 2 game series with the Royals.

The Rockies celebrate this win.

Matt McBride gets the water bucket from teammate Charlie Blackmon.

That is it for this one. After a off day on Thursday the Rockies will have a 3 game series vs. the Miami Marlins.

See you at Coors.

Todds retirement and double header, What a day at Coors!

Reds vs. Rockies

Today there was a double header The first game was the regularly scheduled Sunday afternoon game and the second was a make up from Saturday which was Postponed till a Sunday night. The reason was a water main break on Blake Street that provided the stadium with water on Saturday afternoon.

This being a Sunday it was an autograph Sunday today the signers were Tommy Kahnle , Brooks Brown, Jhoulys Chacin and Tyler Matzek. I was able to get Brooks on my 2014 Team project and Tyler Matzek on a 2012 California/Carolina League All Start game mini bat. That he and Christian Bergman both played in that game. I did get Christian on it earlier in the year. When the autographs were over it was time for the festivities to start for Todd Helton’s retirement ceremony.  First the guest that were speaking were introduced Brad Hawpe and Matt Belilse. Drew Goodman from Root Sports MC’d the ceremony. Then Todd and his family were introduced on the field were his wife Kristy, their 2 daughters and I believe Kristy’s Parents and brother.

The first speaker was Brad Hawpe.

He spoke about playing with Todd and about his first big league spring training! Hawpe had always played 1st. base, but with Todd as the starting first baseman for years he had to change positions and how Todd in his dry humor way basically told him that! Over the years they became good friends which is why he was one of the speakers.

Todd and his youngest daughter Gentry Grace look on as  the second speaker Matt Belilse speaks.

He spoke about how Todd helped him as a pitcher.

After Brad and Matt spoke it was tome for his older daughter Tierney Faith to speak she stole the show when she mentioned about dad being home a lot lately and if we would like him back!

I am keeping this brief because I know many have seen the speeches on T.V. or online.

The Montfort’s then presented Todd with a plaque of the 17, a replica of the one that is now hanging in the stadium.

They than unveiled the covered #17 that will be along with the Kelly McGreggor KSM and Jackie Robinson 42 . They are all above the visitors bullpen on the second level.

Todd than threw out the first pitch to former teammate Brad Hawpe.

Here they are after the pitch.

Todd gives a wave to the crowd.

Here he is before the National Anthem with the first pitch ball with the special #17 logo on it and with his daughter by his side.

After about the 1/2 hour ceremony it was time for the first game. I thought every involved did a great job with stories and there speaking about Todd. I thought him being presented a replica #17 from the Monforts was very cool. I did notice something that I thought was a little suspicious and that was our GM was not involved or on the field for this event. I just find it interesting that a teams GM would be MIA on such an important day in a teams history. Either he is already not involved or he doesn’t have a set of balls. I also find it odd that either Dick or Charlie Monfort did not speak either. I have never seen one of these and not sure if the owner would normally speak, so I will just leave it at that. Also somebody also mentioned that the Commissioner of baseball also was not at Coors and he usually does attend such events. Over all it was really great to be at Coors this day and have to thank the people who helped me with the location I was able to photograph from.

Now onto this interesting and action packed game!

Jordan Lyles was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. He sat the Reds down in order and threw 11 pitches in the inning. All 3 outs were ground outs and he kept the ball low in the strike zone.

Mat Latos was the starter for the Reds. He struck out Charlie Blackmon to start the inning. Drew Stubbs got things going with a double after that.

Stubbs’ double was followed with a Corey Dickerson double that scored Stubbs and gave the Rockies a 1-0 lead.

Dickerson’s double bounced around in the left field corner. Michael Cuddyer would come up next and grounded out for the second out of the inning.

IMG_8082 Since the beginning of the game there was a slight rain but it just started to downpour during Cuddy’s at bat and there was thunder in the distance. They pulled the tarp with 2 outs and Dickerson on second. The delay lasted 21 minutes.

After the delay Arenado came to bat and scored a second run for the Rockies on a single that scored Dickerson and give the Rockies a 2-0 lead.

Lyles pitched well in the second and only had 1 base runner and that was a walk to Brayan Pena, he did record his first strike out of the game in the inning.

Blackmon came up in the 2nd inning with 2 outs and hit a solo home run and the Rockies had a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the 5th inning I was able to move to a better vantage point for photos and Lyles did allow his first hit of the game in the 4th that was a 2 run home run by Jay Bruce the second run was lead off batter Cozart who was hit with a pitch. The Rockies kept the lead 3-2.

Chris Heisey lead off the 5th inning by walking and Billy Hamilton came up with 1 out and hit a double advancing Heisey to third.

Heisey and Hamilton both scored on a Zach Cozart single. This gave the Reds a 4-3 lead.

Franklin Morales came in and pitched the 6th inning. The Reds immediately got to him and started off the inning with a Kris Negron solo home run, followed by a Skip Schumaker single and a Heisey double scored Negron and extended the Reds lead 6-3. Lyles pitched 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 5 hits walking 2 striking out 4.

Franklin Morales put down a bunt with Charlie Culberson on first. Culberson was forced out at second but Morales was safe at 1st.

The bottom of the 7th Dickerson lead off the inning with a home run into the fountain in center field. To cut the Reds lead down to 6-4.

Sam LeCure came into pitch for the Reds in the 6th and pitched into the 7th inning. After the Dickerson homer a single by Michael Cuddyer and Nolan Arenado, Jumbo Diaz came in to pitch for Reds.

With bases loaded Josh Rutledge came up an hit a sac fly to center that scored Cuddy from 3rd.

The run brought the Rockies within 1 run of the Reds still lead 6-5.

Juan Nicasio kept the Rockies in the game by holding the Reds off base in the 8th. He faced 3 batters and got out of the inning he did pitch deep in counts with 2 of the 3 batters throwing 7 pitches to Schumaker and 8 to pinch hitter jack Hannahan 18 in total in the inning. The only batter he didn’t throw many pitches to was heisey who grounded out on the 3rd pitch of a 1-1 count.

Jonathan Broxton pitched the 8th for the Reds giving up 1 single to Drew Stubbs and walked Dickerson. He did get out of the inning with a double play.

Rex Brothers pitched the 9th for the Rockies and The Reds immediately got on him, Hamilton started the inning with a double. Cozart did get out but the next 3 batters got on base either by hitting a single or being walked. One of those was a single by Bruce who scored Hamilton and extended the Reds lead to 7-5.

Hamilton sliding into second after his 9th inning hit. The Reds did score a 8th run and Brothers did get out of the inning after facing 8 batters and throwing 29 pitches in the inning.

Reds 100+ MPH closer Aroldis Chapman came into the game in the 9th. A closer like this is usually lights out, Not this game he walked 4 consecutive batters which gave the Rockies a run and the Reds now lead 9-6.

 J. Hoover came in and pitched with base’s loaded and no outs he got the next 2 Rockies batters out and a run did score on a sac fly by Wilin Rosario. drew Stubbs came up with 2 out, 2 men on base and a Reds 2 run lead.

Stubbs hit a home run to left center field scoring the 3 runs the Rockies needed to win the game and the celebration started at home plate!

IMG_8374After a very brief celebration he did his  post game interview..

… and got the bucket!!!!

The Rockies won this game 10-9.

We then had to immediately leave the stadium so they could clean the stadium and do some field maintenance before the second game.

They basically had a half hour between games an had to clear the stadium and then  get ready for the second game. The first game ended at about 6:30 and the gates for game 2 opened at 6:50 with a scheduled first pitch at 7:10.

by the time we grabbed some food and re-entered the stadium at 7:00 they were already doing the National Anthem for the second game. I headed down to where I normally sit for the first pitch and we were ready for the next 9 innings.

Yohan Flande started for the Rockies. He did not start as well as Lyles in the first game. He Gave up a double to Hamilton to start the game. Hamilton would scored when Jay Bruce hit into a fielders choice getting Ramon Santiago out at second. The Reds took a 1-0 lead in the first.

In the Bottom of the First Cuddy tried to get a 2 out rally going hitting a triple. He would remain on base when Nolan Arenado struck out.

Both Flande and Axelrod continued to pitch well giving up minimal hits and know runs till the bottom of the 5th. (When our at the bottom of your 5th)!

Brandon Barnes hit a lead off solo homer to get the Rockies on the board and tie the game at 1.

Walt Weiss removed Fande in the 6th inning after giving up a 2 run home run to the Reds Ryan Ludwick.  Kris Negron hit a single and than scored on a Pena double. The Reds got a total of 3 runs in the inning and took a 4-1 lead.

When Flande was removed from the game Brookes Brown came in and pitched to the next 2 batters getting both batters out.

Brown remained in the game in the 7th and Hamilton got his 3rd hit of the game with 1 out. He than stole second base and the ball was thrown short to Rutledge who missed the ball on the bounce and it ended up in center field, Hamilton would reach third on the error. He would score and the Reds had a 5-2 lead.

The Rockies got thing going in the 7th Blackmon started the inning with a walk when he pinch hit in the pitchers spot.

Rutledge hit a single and Dickerson followed up with a single scouring Blackmon for the Rockies first run of the inning.

After the run the Reds still had a 5-3 lead.

Cuddyer hit a single in the 8th he now has a triple, home run and a single in this game.

The Rockies picked up 2 more runs on a Arenado hit that got Dickerson out at third but scored Rutledge, after a bad throw by the Reds 3rd baseman Santiago that scored Cuddy and Arenado ended up on third and the Rockies tied the game at 5.

Dickerson watches the ball after being out at third and coaches Cuddy who was coming down the line.

Cuddy sliding into home to tie the game!

Adam Ottavino came in in the 8th inning and shut down the Reds batters in the inning striking out 2 and Getting Pena to ground out for the third out. He pitched better in this inning then I have seen him pitch in a while. He got out of the inning with 9 pitches, pitching the most 4 pitches to Negron who struck out.

for the second game they invited back the rally guy from game 1 and he moved down to the lower level for the 8th inning. He was dancing in the upper deck during the first game 9th inning when the Rockies scored the 5 runs to come back and win that game. So by popular demand he was invited back by the Rockies for game 2!

With 2 outs and Brandon Barnes, Charlie Culberson and Josh Rutledge on base Dickerson hit a double. scoring Barnes and Culberson to give the Rockies a 7-5 lead.

Michael Cuddyer came to the plate and I noticed something on my score card and then confirmed it on the board. Cuddy only needed a double to complete the cycle. IMG_8558with a 1-1 count he hit a Manny Parra slider to left field.

He made the turn at 1st as the ball was still in the outfield.

he got the double and completed the cycle, this was his second of his career and he is only the 4th in MLB history to do it in both the American and National league.

Cuddy would slid into home once again for the Rockies 10th run of the game on a Drew Stubbs single. The Rockies had a 10-5 lead.

LaTroy Hawkins came into pitch the 9th and sat the Reds down in order to end the game and give the Rockies the sweep of the double header and 3 or the 4 games this weekend series.

The Rockies and Cuddy celebrate their second win of the day. This is more wins in one day they have gotten in some weeks lately. cuddy went 4 for 5 this game scoring 3 RBI’s and scoring 3 times. This was a great comeback day for him since this was the first day he played at Coors in almost 2 months. He went 5 for 10 on the day. He was also the 5th Rockies player to hit for the cycle.

it was time for the post season interview and the second bucket dump of the day!

He was warned to duck by the guys in the booth and Brandon Barnes got him pretty good!

These were 2 great games by the Rockies, it shows they do have potential to make things happen and it reminded me of the games they played early this season. The Bull Pen kept them in both games, they got pretty good starts from the starters and the bats where there when needed. A lot of guys stepped up this game. I wish they were able to do this for the last few months. These games would matter a lot more then a double header sweep or a series win.

It was an amazing day of baseball at Coors I am glad I was there for this day and to witness history twice this day, once with the retirement of the # 17 and then Cuddy hitting for the cycle. can not forget the 2 very dramatic games and wins in both.

So that is it for this one very long day at the ballpark.

We don’t need no stinkin’ starters!

Reds vs. Rockies

Game 2 of series

I have know clue how many games this is for me!

So once again because of the perfectly timed storm there was no batting practice once again!

No this is not the 4th inning of another bad start for the Rockies starters Matt Belisle got the start for the Rockies for this game because Franklin Morales was suppose to start but could not because of his wife expecting a baby. Belisle started a little shaky but settled down after the first 2 batters he faced hit single he did get out of the inning and the Reds remained scoreless till the 3rd inning.

Johnny Cueto started for the Reds.

Charlie Blackmon got on base after the ball that got passed first baseman Jack Hannahan

The Rockies did not score in the first inning but did get a run in the 2nd a solo home run by Nolan Arenado. The Reds got their first run in the 3rd Johnny Cuerto lead off the inning with a single and then scored on a Jay Bruce sac ground out to tie the game 1-1

The second inning saw the Reds get there second run and the Rockies would than again tie the  game in the 6th. In the 6th Justin Morneau started the inning with a walk and scored on a Corey Dickerson double.

If you did not notice I did not take many photos this game!  There was not much going on and because of a elbow that has been giving me trouble since before my road trip is making hard to hold a camera for an extended amount of time. I am not really sure how I got through a couple of games during my trip it was that bad. I think I may be day today after this weekend!!!

Back to baseball the Reds scored a third run in the 9th inning and got the 3-2 win. O.K. the bull pen did not do that bad this game but the Rockies still lost. Ottavino took the lose and Cueto who pitched 8 innings got the win. He threw 106 pitches in the eight innings he pitched. Belise went 3 innings throwing 49 pitches, giving up 4 hits and 1 run, striking out and walking 1. The Rockies did use 6 pitchers in this game Nick Masset pitched the 4th and 5th. Nicasio the 6th, Brothers the 7th Boone Logan and Adam Ottavino the 8th and Ottavino continued till the 9th.

So that is it for this brief game.

There was a really great sunset during this game and I did manage to take a few photos of it!

That is it for this one!

Rockies take game 1, bats and Culberson homer get it done.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Colorado Rockies

This was my first game back at Coors in over a month. So I was looking forward to getting back into my usual routine. So as I was heading down to Coors it started to rain and kept raining till about 4:30 and I sat in my truck figuring that there was no batting practice and well I was right after entering the stadium I saw the tarp was down, not what I wanted to see!  So I just wandered around a little bit, including going up to the Party Deck just because it was the only place open besides the outfield concourse. After they opened the stadium I headed down to the 1st base side.

I noticed something new in the stadium!

The move the retired 42 and The KSM to the second deck and center field instead of the decals that were by the auxiliary score board. I wonder what the covered one is! 🙂

So the game started and Jorge De La Rosa was pitching for the Rockies which are usually a good thing.

The Reds first batter Billy Hamilton tried to bunt his way on base.

The Ball was fielded by Justin Morneau and he was tagged out between home and first. Things were looking good the Rockies kept a key to the Reds offence off base and the next 2 batters also got out including Todd Frazier striking out to end the top of the first.

Alfredo Simon started for the Reds and he also only faced 3 batters in the inning.

Things started to look bad for the Rockies in the top of the second when the Reds scored 2 runs.

After Devin Mesoraco walked Ryan Ludwick hit a double to score the Reds first run.

The Second run came on a Zack Cozart single, scoring Ludwick and the Reds had a 2-0 lead.

The Rockies got 1 run back in the bottom of the second. Corey Dickerson started it off with a double and scored on a Wilin Rosario double to cut the Reds lead to 2-1.

After the Reds got leadoff batter Billy Hamilton on base in the 3rd. Jorge worked his way out of the inning by getting the next 3 batters out in the inning. Besides a 7 pitch at bat to Jay Bruce Jorge’s pitch count remained low throwing only 12 pitches in the inning.

The Rockies then tied the game at 2 in the 3rd. Charlie Blackmon scored on a Corey Dickerson sac fly to right.

The Rockies took the lead in the 4th inning, Charlie Culberson got things started with a leadoff single and scored on a Blackmon sac ground out. (3-2) Rox

The Rockies extended their lead to 4-2 with a Drew Stubbs single scoring D.J. Lemahieu.

Jorge continued to pitch well and the Rockies continued to hit in the 5th inning. Nolan Arenado started the inning with a single, after Dickerson flew out Wilin Rosario hit a single.

Charlie Culberson hit his 3rd home run of the year a 3 run shot to give the Rockies a 7-2 lead and of course the Rockies fanes cheap Tacos on Friday afternoon!

Jorge continued to pitch well through the game and was removed from the game after 7 complete inning. He held the Reds to only the 3 runs (the 3rd a HR by Ryan Ludwick in the 6th inning). In total he gave up 5 hits, 3 runs, walked 1 and struck out 5. I think he may have been able to pitch the 8th, he still seemed to keep his stuff in the 7th. He threw 13 pitches in the inning and total for the game of 104. I think we are still keeping a pitch count, but that is just my opinion! It may not be 75 but it could just be 100!!!!!! I am mentioning this just because while on my trip even in A ball and other levels pitchers were going to the 8th or 9th with similar pitch counts and I think we should start extending our guys especially with a 4 run lead so maybe they can pitch a complete game or not burn out our whole bull pen season after season!

Boone Logan came into pitch in the top of the eight he pitched to Billy Hamilton and Jay Bruce.

Adam Ottavino pitched to Todd Frazier and struck him out and the Rockies bull pen survived an inning without giving up a hit!

La Troy Hawkins came into end the game and gave up a hit but after a double play by hit by Skip Schumaker the game ended and the Rockies won 7-3.

It was great to be back at Coors and have the Rockies play well this night and win a game. It seems like they are few and far between. Actually can’t remember the last win I was at I just know they lost the 2 I was at in Detroit.

Love these Colorado Sky’s

So that is it for this one, some fun stuff coming up this weekend with Todd Helton’s retirement weekend. I will be at Coors all weekend hope they can play some good ball for Todd!
