Ashville Tourist Vs. Kannapolis Intimidators
Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, Kannapolis, North Carolina
The Stadium is located not far from the Charlotte Motor Speedway (or Lowe’s Motor Speedway or what ever its name is these days).
There is a Dale Earnhardt #3 car at the entrance Earnhardt was a partial owner of the team before his death in 2001. The # 3 is a retired number for the Intimidators along with Jackie Robinsons 42 and # 50 which I don’t know who or what it represents.
After walking around the outside of the stadium. which looks like an awesome stadium for batting practice, which was over when I arrived. I headed inside. Which was like walking into someones backyard that just happened to have a baseball field in it.
Amongst the baseball signage of the line ups and league standings was this one with the Nextel Cup point standings.
Here’s a view of the field as I was walking around before the game it was about an hour before game time.
While walking around I saw these plaques on the back of many of the seats that where memorial plaques some said just in memory of and others said in memory of baseball fan and then their name.
Then I noticed this little stair well leading to the dugout so I headed down there. I wasn’t sure what it was for since it is attached to the dugout. Divided by a wall. At first I thought it may be a photo pit.
From this photo you can see that was not it. Hey “D” look hosers!!!!!
It is also the creative BNW to show off the mad photo skillz!
Then players started heading to the field from the clubhouse’s located beyond the left field wall for warm ups.
The first player I noticed was Kyle Parker the 1st round draft pick for the Rockies in the 2010 draft. He also was the quarterback for the Clemson Tigers. After putting his equipment in the dugout he came out and signed a few autographs. I had him sign my Tourist roster sheet because it was the only thing I had on me.
Tourist players stretching during warm ups.
Players lined up for the National Anthem. The National Anthem was done by a guy with an electric guitar. Not to be rude but this was not quite Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock and made Rosanne Barrs singing sound good.
Ortega would the strike out. The Tourists would not score in the 1st inning. But would send 6 batters to the plate including 2 walks 2 striking out and a single.
Spencer Arroyo checks first base after Christian Adames walked in the 1st.
Kannapolis would not score either in the first.
Avery Barnes getting put out at second after Joey wong hit into a double play. in the 2nd inning.
The Tourists would then Score 2 in the 3rd including a HR by Bryce Mastriani. The second run would be from Dustin Garneau scoring from 1st on a Corey Dickerson triple. The Intimiadators 3rd baseman would bobble the ball other wise it most likely would be an out. (2-0) Tourists.
Kannapolis would also score 2 in the 3rd After Brady Shoemaker walked and then would be the first run for them. They would then score another to tie the game (2-2)
Wong being tagged out at second after the Tourists scored a run on his hit to left field after Kannapolis missed the tag at home they throw to 2nd and got Wong to end the 6th inning.. (3-2) Tourists.
Kannapolis would then score 2 in the 6th. on a Kevin Dubler HR giving Kannapolis the lard (4-2).
Ashville would then tie the game in the 7th.
A view from right field during the 7th inning.
The Tourists would then score the game winning run in the 9th. when Massanari hit a triple scoring Adames from first.
here is the tag attempt at the plate. .
Then the catcher would throw to third Massanari would also be safe
Ashville heads from the dugout to celebrate their win. (5-4)
As I was at this game the Rockies beat up on the KC Royals (9-0) at Coors I would of loved to be there, but it was great to be at an affiliates game that also one. It was a good night for Rockies nation.
So now I will be taking a few days off from baseball. My next game is in Greensboro on the 4th of July. The Iwill be heading to Ashvile for 2 next week. Till the see you around the land of Jerry Beard!!!North Carolina. Jerry is a usher at Coors.
