Giants vs. Rockies
My 22nd Game at Coors, 24th MLB game and 26th Baseball game overall this year.
Today I broke the streak of no baseballs during batting practice. The first was an Easter egg that I found after the opened the rest of the stadium at 5:00. I was watching that there were a few hit to the seats down the third base line during the Rockies practice and after the seating areas opened I headed over to see if I could find any. The next one was during the Giants BP and it was hit to the very last row of seats before the concourse and I was able to pick it up. So that was 2 on the day my 6th at Coors for the year and 8th ball of the year counting the 2 from Kansas City. The first ball I got I ended up giving away to a friend of a friends son who it was his first baseball game ever.
Jhoulys Chacin was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. This was somewhat of a low scoring game and there was not much as far as offense especially by the Rockies. Jhoulys did start out well getting the Giants out in order in the first and walking the led off batter and the third batter of the 2nd inning and he got out of the inning with a double play. Once again he faced the minimum of 3 batters in the 3rd. The first hit of the game Came in the 4th inning a solo home run hit by the Giants Hunter Pence.
Matt Cain was the starting pitcher for the Giants. he pitched real well also he did not allow a hit for the 3 innings he pitched he was removed from the game after the 3rd innings and was replaced with Yusmeiro Petit. Cain was taken out of the game with a hamstring injury. The Rockies first base runner was in the 2nd inning when Justin Morneau was hit by a pitch which both teams were warned because of the to hit batters the night before. The Rockies first hit came in the 5th inning a Wilin Rosario single.
In around the 4th inning I headed to the 200 level to meet up with some friends. I have never watched a game from there before. Besides from the lost where the Rio is now and that was years ago. Chacin pitched to the 6th inning. He did give up 5 hits and 3 runs, walked 2 and struck out 4. 2 of the 3 runs came on solo home runs. The Pence HR in the 4th and a Pablo Sandoval HR in the 6th. Michael Morse also scored in the 6th inning after hitting a double after the Sandoval home run.
Here is a look of the whole stadium from section 208.
Matt Belisle pitching in the 7th inning. Belisle did give up a 4th run in the inning to Brandon Crawford to give the Giants a 4-0 lead.
Juan Gutierrez pitched the 7th inning for the Giants after Yusmeiro Petit pitched 3 innings.
He was taken out and replaced with Javy Lopez, Lopez only pitched to Charlie Blackmon and Blackmon hit a single. Santiago Casilla pitched the remainder of the 8th, the Rockies would get 1 run when Michael Cuddyer hit into a double getting Blackmon out at 2nd and himself at first but LeMahieu who lead off the inning with a single scored. Casilla was removed from the game after batting for himself in the top of the 9th and he appeared to have either twisted his ankle or pulled something in his leg.
Tommy Kahnle pitched the 8th and the Giants picked up their 5th run. Boone Logan pitched the 9th for the Rockies and got the Giants out in order.
Jeremy Affeldt pitched the 9th for the Giants and struck out Drew Stubbs, Arenado grounded out and Justin Morneau popped out to Sandoval at third in foul territory to end the game and the Giants won 5-1 this puts the Rockies 3 games behind them in the National League west again.
So that is it for this one!!
See You at Coors.
