Tampa Bay Rays vs. Colorado Rockies
My 13th Game at Coors this year.
This was the first inter-league game for the Rockies this season. It was also the first game that Nolan Arenado was in the line up at Coors Field after making his MLB debut in Arizona last week and playing in the series against the Dodgers in L.A.
Jeff Francis was the starting pitcher for the Rockies he pitched the first 2 innings really well. The only base runner he allowed was a when he hit Kelly Johnson in the second inning.
Nolan Arenado made his Coors debut which I mentioned earlier. His first Coors at bat was not his best of the night. He grounded out to third for the last out of the 2nd inning.
Out at first in his first at bat.
Here he is throwing a Evan Longoria hit to first.
It was a little high of a throw but Jordan Pacheco took flight to grab the ball.
Landing on the bag.
For the out. Nice save by Pacheco at first.
The Rockies did take the early lead in the first inning on a Michael Cuddyer Home run and scored a third run in the 2nd on a Josh Rutledge solo shot. (3-0) Rox
Josh Rutledge after hitting his 2nd inning home run.
Arenado hit a double for his 2nd at bat in the 3rd inning and also in the 5th inning. He finished the night hitting 3 for 5 not a bad Coors debut!
Francis pitched 5 innings. He let up 5 runs including a 2 run home run to Desmond Jennings in the 5th. Which gave the Rays a 4-3 lead. The Rockies did score a run to tie the game at 4 in the 5th. and that was on Arenado’s second double in the 5th.
Francis pitched 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 5 hits, striking out 3 and walking 1. Not to bad of an outing but not quite his best start. Adam Ottavino came in to pitch the 6th and 7th. Wilton Lopez pitched the 8th and Rex Brothers the 9th.
Wilton Lopez pitched the 8th inning for the Rockies and started the inning walking Evan Longoria and Sean Rodriguez hit a single. Wilin Rosario stops Longoria from scoring on a Kelly Johnson hit back to Lopez.
Longoria out at home.
Arenado strikes out in the 8th inning for the first out of the inning.
Troy Tulowitzki pinch hit in the batters spot in the 8th and was walked with Herrera and Rutledge on base. Tyler Chatwood would come in to pinch run for Tulo. The Rockies did leave the base’s loaded to end the inning.
The Game went to extra innings and the Rays scored 3 in the 10th off of Matt Belise. Who has been pitching very well from the bull-pen this year and this ended a 30 something inning scoreless streak by the Rockies bull-pen. The rays 10th inning runs were scored on a Longoria single which score Ben Zobrist who lead the inning off with a double and then Kelly Johnson hit a 2 run home run scoring Longoria and himself. That gave the Rays a 7-4 lead.
Fernando Rodney pitched for the Rays in the 10th inning.
Eric Young Jr. struck out to end the game on a questionable strike call to end the game.
This is a game that defiantly got away from them and there were plenty of opportunities to get runs in this game the Rockies stranded many runners on base and 12 on base in the game and were 0 for 9 in at bats with runners in scoring position.
With the Giants and Diamondbacks both winning this night the Rockies are now tied with the Giants for first place with the Giants and the Diamondbacks are just one game back. This game was a game the Rockies really needed they would have remained 1 game over the Giants and 2 over the Diamondbacks. The Rockies are now 17 and 12 this season and 10 and 4 at home this season.
That is it for this one I will be at Coors for the rest of the Rays series and all 3 against the Yankees next week.
See You at Coors.
