Salt River Fields @ Talking Stick
Game 1 Reds vs. Rockies
Game 2 Diamondbacks Rockies
So once again the day started early first I got up before 6 and started the post from the day before than I had to get ready to get to the stadium and got there probably a little after 9. I met up with EB who only need 1 person to get to sign a baseball to get the 40 man roster and I am not sure who he needed!!!!!
I think it was Jorge or Jhoulys or some possibly Boone Logan not quit sure!
Mary was hanging out before work and took a photo next to the fence she has been asking for since Salt River Fields opened in 2011.
This year the added it! We now call it Mary’s fence!
The pitchers were out throwing some bullpens that is Christian Friedrick and Boone Logan on the mound.
Christian Friedrick throwing.
While we were waiting for players to get done we had a catch of our own. (Photo Courtesy of Mom)
The Rockies this year are having and autograph table on the concourse the signers today were Dustin Garneau and Rex Brothers.
Today Jared and Rachel were at Salt River Fields the came down yesterday and was at the Rockies vs. Cubs. Here is a photo of Jared with Mom.
It was an OK day for autographs here is Charlie Blackmon signing.
Brett Anderson was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. Here he is pitching to the Reds lead-off batter Brandon (touched my ball) Phillips. Explanation: Last year at the World Baseball Classic Brandon was signing autographs and I threw my ball to him he missed it and it fell in the dugout so he signed another autograph or so, picked up my baseball and tossed it back without signing it! Here is a link to that original post: http://roxaddict.mlblogs.com/2013/03/14/world-baseball-classic-usa-vs-italy/
Since one of my awesome friends got me a autographed ball this year!
So Phillips lead off by grounding out to 3rd. Than Ramon Santiago hit a single. Anderson than struck out Joey Votto followed by Ryan Ludwick grounded out.
Mike Leake was the starting pitcher for the Reds. Charlie Blackmon grounded out by hitting back to Leake. Charlie Culberson got on base by hittin a single. Michael Cuddyer would fly out to right and the inning would end when Culberson did not get back to first and ended the inning for the Rockies.
The Reds got on the board in the 2nd. Chris Heisey started the inning with a double and scored on a Devin Mesoraco sac fly to right field and Heisey scored (1-0) Reds
Matt McBride trying to leg out a hit during his second inning at bat. he was the second out of the inning.
Josh Rutledge taking a pitch for a ball during his at bat.
Jason Pridie takes a lead off second base he was the only Rockies runner in the second inning.
Josh Rutledge also trying to leg out a hit during his 2nd inning at bat. He was out and ended the inning.
The Rockies score their first run in the 3rd inning. D.J.eMahieu lead off the 3rd with a walk and scored on a Charlie Culberson double to left. This run tied the game at 1. The above is a photo of Michael Cuddyer taking a swing that ended up flying out to center field to end the 3rd inning.
Sam LeCure was the second pitcher of the game for the Reds he pitched the 4th inning for them.
The Rockies did pick up and additional run in the 5th inning. Once again LeMahieu would get on base to lead off the inning this time with and single and scored on a single by Charlie Blackmon. (2-1) Rockies
Wilin Rosario scores the Rockies 3rd run of the game. Wilin hit a single to get on base and scored on Matt McBride single. (3-1) Rockies
Louisville Bats Legend Corky Miller in the 7th inning. I saw that somewhere I did not make up the Louisville Bats Legend! I have seen him play in Louisville 2 years ago on my road trip. He grounded out in the inning.
Jordan Pacheco field a softly hit ball by Roger Berndina for the second out of the 7th inning.
Matt McBride makes the grab at first for the Berdina out.
Adam Ottavino pitching in the 8th inning.
Tyler Matzek came into the game to pitch in the 9th inning. The first batter he pitched to and walked was Chris Nelson. Nelson is an invitee for the Reds this year after being with the Rockies, Yankees and Angels last season.
Matzek walked 4 consecutive batters the third batter he walked was Louisville Bats Legend Corky Miller! OK that is it for the use of that dead horse!
Matzek was than removed from the game. He has been known to have control issue through his Minor League career, But when he is on he can be totally lights out. Not this day.
The Rockie got out of the inning with a double play. Here is Rosell Herrera turning the double play at second.
That was the end of the game and the Rockies won this one 3-2. After this game we had to leave the stadium and get ready for the second game of the day at Salt River Fields. Between games I headed to the Diamondbacks side to watch their batting practice. I go to that side because there major league practice field is more accessible than the Rockies side. After dropping my bag off I headed back to my car to get some stuff for the Diamond backs to sign. Along the way I found and Easter egg. That was the 4th ball of the trip. I got back just in time for the end of the Diamond backs BP and was able to get Marc Trumbo to sign a card and Martin Prado.
After meeting back up with EB we headed back into the stadium.
Before the game I was able to get some more autos on my team project and in my Spring Training magazine. The signers on the concourse were Mike McHenry and Gregg Burke. I had McHenry sign a locker tag that I got at Fanfest from last year when he was with the Pirates. I was also able to get Nolan Arenado on a ball that he tossed up last year that I caught during warm ups.
The Second game was against the Diamondbacks. I did not really take many photos this game I think I took a total of 31 photos the whole game slightly because I was tired and second every now and than I just want to hang out and watch a game which is what I may try to do this year every few games so may not be posting every game I am at this year.
Pedro Hernandez was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. He allowed 1 hit in the 1st it was a double by Aaron Hill.
Wade Miley was the starting pitcher for the Rockies.
The Diamondbacks got on the board in the 3rd inning with a solo shot by Aaron Hill. They scored a second run in the 4th inning. Martin Prado scored on a Chris Owing single.
Tulo leaving the game after being hit by a pitch in the 4th inning. He left the game because his pride was hurt and sent for X-Rays and they have came back negative, negative for a heart, brain or personality!
The Rockies first run came in the 5th inning when Michael McHenry hit a double scoring Paul Janish.
putting together this post for 3 hours and need to get functioning!
Another great day at the ballpark.
The next game will be at Phoenix Municipal when the Rockies play the A’s.
See you around Phoenix halfway through this trip!
Cincinnati Reds Vs Colorado Rockies
Cincinnati Reds first Place in the National League Central by 3 games the Rockies second worst team in the Major Leagues!
O.K. before I start about the day Just want to give a S/O to the Rock Nation Crew who on Aug. 4th will be holding an Equipment drive.
Here is the info.
O.K. as always on a Sunday I headed to Coors early. I met up with X, Rachel, Julie and the rest of the Sunday morning crew. The gates were a little earlier today because instead of autograph Sunday it was photo day. This is a fun day that you get to hang on the field and have some fun interacting with the players and coaches. So when the gates opened we headed to the field and decided to head out to left field. While we were waiting for the players we had some fun and took some photos.
Shortly after the players started heading out and we noticed Carlos Gonzalez and Wilin Rosario heading to the section to our right. So we went over to them.
Here is me with Wilin Rosario.
Carlos Gonzalez and I.
After Betancourt The Deuce was not far behind. Here is Gary X with Him.
Then I got to take a photo with him.
Which was kinda interesting because I have been one of his biggest critics over the last few years and have not always had the best experiences when meeting him.. He was actual not a Deuce today. He was pretty cool, took his time and sociable with the fans. Most asked how he was and when will he be returning to the line up. He is doing well and should be back in early September.
To the left is a photo of Bo McLaughlin The Rockies new Pitching Coach.
Carney Lansford and Rich Dauer. Hmm in this photo can you figure out who does not have a World Series ring!!
A and X with Big Jim Wright!
Josh Roenicke and Rex Brothers.
Brooklyn in Da house. Adam “No Sleep To Brooklyn” Ottavino, Adam grew up in Park Slope Brooklyn.
Matt Reynolds with the card that X made for him with a photo I took.
X and A with Jorge De La Rosa. I asked Jorge when I should be back from having Tommy John Surgery and he said soon it has been about 14 months or so since he had it he said he is feeling good and rehab is going well.
To the right Rockies first base coach Glenallen Hill.
Manager Jim Tracy.
I did get a bunch more but this post is long enough others were Jerry Weinstein, Andrew Brown, Carlos Torres, Mike Ekstrom and Josh Fields.
It was a fun day with the players. I think it is really cool that the Rockies do this and it is a lot of fun. I also want to thank Matt Belise and Drew Pomeranz for doing a running man!
Drew is the first player to actually do it twice he also did it at fan fest in January.
After photo day was over it was time to get down to the normal business of the day. The pitches came out and did their normal warm ups.
Here is Jorge De La Rosa throwing to trainer Keith Duggar.
Also got a few autos one was Jim Tracy on my photo I have been having everyone sign. Wilin Rosario on a card. Drew Pomeranz on a Tulsa pocket schedule I got on my road trip.
It was then time to play ball. The starter for the Rockies was Jonathan Sanchez. This was his Coors debut. He was recently acquired in a trade with the Royals for Jeremy Guthrie.
This is his first Coors field pitch to the Reds lead off batter Zack Cozart. Cozart would pop out to second for the first out of the game.
Sanchez would walk the second batter Drew Stubbs. Who would than steal second.
Brandon Phillips would single which scored Stubbs from second, also tried to steal second but was not as succesful as Stubbs. Sanchez would strike out Todd Frazier for the final out of the inning. (1-0) Reds
Dexter Fowler on his quest for his record all-time leader in triples for the Rockies lead off the inning by not accomplishing that record, but reached base by walking. Josh Rutledge batted second.
He would hit his second MLB home run and first one at Coors. He has been a great addition to this team in the past few weeks with and including this game he is batting .379 with 5 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs in 58 at bats. He also has 22 combined hits and 8 RBI’s. (2-1) Rockies
Michael Cuddyer would also reach base with some hard running and a rushed throw from Zack Cozart at short that…
… pulled Miguel Cairo off first.
The Reds started the 2nd off aggressively Chris Heisey hit a lead off triple he would score on a sac fly by Cairo to center and tied the game at 2.
I am going to try to make this one brief the Reds would than score a run in the 3rd. The Rockies would not produce in the third Cuddyer and Rutledge would both get hits but would not score. The starting pitcher for the Reds Matt Latos would sit the Rockies down in order in the 4th.
Jonathan Sanchez would get really roughed up in the 5th. Cozart lead off with a single Stubbs hit a 2 Run home run. (5-2) Reds 2 batters later Jay Bruce would hit a solo shot. ( 6-2) Reds. After that Sanchez was removed from the game by manager Jim Tracy.
Here he is leaving the mound.
Carlos Torres would come into pitch for the Rockies and would strike out the first 2 Reds he faced in the 5th to get out of the inning. he would pitch the complete 6th and 7th ining. Facing 9 Batters in his 2/3rd innings. Striking out 5 and only allowing 1 hit. The hit was a double by Ryan Hannigan.
Dex sent one for a ride in the 5th which looked like it may have gone out but fell short and was caught by Jay Bruce on the right field track.
Mike Ekstrom pitched the 8th for the Rockies he did not have a great outing but he did let up an additional run on 2 hits and a Rutledge error at short. (7-2) Reds
Matt Reynolds pitched the 9th for the Rockies Striking out 2 of the 4 batters he faced. He did let up one hit to Stubbs.
The Rockies would attempt a 2 out rally in the bottom of the 9th, After Andrew Brown would get a single when he pinch hit in the pitchers spot. Josh fields who was brought in a double switch in the 6th would hit a single. Dex then grounded out to end the game. The Reds won 7-2 and swept the Rockies this weekend. It looks like my days of seeing home team walk off wins have ended now that I am back home. It is just something we are getting use to at Coors. Well that is it for this one besides the Rockies loss it was a great day hanging at Coors today. Once again thanks to the players and coaches for having a photo day for the fans.
Here is a few others from our time on the field.
Mary O and Me.
Me waiting for my marker back that Jim Tracy was signing with.
Then these to girls had this sign that said show me how to Tulo. So read their definition!
O.K. so now my Tulo dig for the post yes I have to go there. I thought Tulo-ing would be when there is 1 out with 2 runners on and he pops out to the first base or third base line. Now I only say this because I have seen several time this year. Maybe after this injury things will turn around for him with him.
Well that’s it for this one I should be at Coors most of the week as they face the Cardinals and Giants in the next week.
I may also have a surprise post mid-week. Covering something I normally would not cover!
and remember I can be followed on twitter: @RoxAddict
Cincinnati Reds Vs. Colorado Rockies
Coors Field. I finally returned!!! Only missed 18 at this point at Coors for the year, 14 because of the road trip. As I am writing this I am missing my 19th. This was 34th game at Coors for the year.
Today being my first game back at Coors in over a month I was really looking foreward to batting practice thanks to the early evening storm, that did not happen. So after hanging out in the pavillions we headed over to the first base line.
Today Josh Rutledge signed this was the first time I have seen him at Coors. I did get to see him play when I was in Tulsa at the end of June and met him in at Jackson’s Thursday at Dex and friends. He seems like a really nice guy and hope he stays around and does well with the team.
Jordan Pacheco throwing to Michael Cuddyer during warm ups.
Josh Rutledge also throwing.
I was not the only one returning to Coors this night so was Todd Helton after being on the D.L.. Here he is leading the team to the field for the start of the game.
Drew Pomeranz started for the Rockies, He had a great first inning sitting the Reds down in order. This game was a pitching battle for the first few innings so there was not many highlights for the first few innings. The first batter the Reds got on base was in the 2nd and that was a walk to Ryan Ludwick.
Michael Cuddyer catching a Scott Rolen hit ball in the second.
Bronson Arroyo pitching in the 2nd inning again the Rockies went down in order.
Josh Rutledge came to bat in the 3rd inning. He did ground out in the inning.
After a single in the 4th. Brandon Phillips slides into second after a Jay Bruce sac fly.
Cargo puts an end to Arroyo’s not so no, no, in the 4th.
Cargo reaching first succefully for the first Rockies runner in the game. He would be stranded and the Rockies did not score. ( spoiler alert) ohh wait everybody does already know the Rockies did not score the whole game. So if you are reading hoping there is magic you can stop reading now if you just want to see photos and a write up of a Rockies loss you may now continue!!!
Rosario got on base after a Helton single in the 5th inning. Helton was called out on Rosario’s hit (fielders Choice).
Here he is being called safe. As Helton gets up after getting out at second.
Jordan Pacheco also hit a double in the 5th sending Rosario to third both would remain on base in the inning.
Jim Tracy and the infield head to the mound in the 6th. Drew Pomeranz pitched well beside letting up 2 runs in the 4th he had 3 3 up 3 down innings. He struck out 5, anly walked 1, He did let up 3 runs on 7 hits. There was 2 men on base when he was removed from the game.
Adam Ottavino got the ball in the 6th.
Here he is pitching to Todd Frazier. Ottavino would strike out Frazier.
The third run of the inning was scored on a passed ball. (3-0) Reds.
Dex taking a swing in the 6th. He grounded out for the first out of the inning. Carlos Gonzalez got another hit in the 6th. This was for a double he had a good night going 2 for 4.
O.K. said I was not going to do this anymore but yes still creepy!!!!
Matt Reynolds came in and pitched to Jay bruce in the 8th and was done. Bruce grounded out to first and matt was removed. Mike ekstrom came in and pitched the rest of the 8th. sitting both Reds he faced down.
In the 8th Marco Scutaro sent one to left center that was missed by Ryan Ludwick. Scutaro would advance to third on a wild pitch and as it is already known he did not score. That would be Scutaro’s last at bat for the Rockies he was traded to the Giants immediately after the game. As a Rockie he played in 95 games hit .271 with 30 RBI’s and 4 home runs. He was always a hard hitter and besides his horrible running mistake in Texas he was not that bad of a player.
Arodlis Chapman came in to close for the Reds in the 9th he was almost lights out striking out Helton with 3 pitches, Rosario with 3 and Pacheco did get a single off the 100+ mph pitching. Josh Rutledge also struck out to end the game. Since comimg up about 2 years ago Chapman went from a high speed pitcher with not much control to a very controlled pitcher with a slider with a almost 24 mph difference slow from his 100+ mph fast ball. He threw it 86 mph.
Well that is it for this one! I will be at Coors on Sunday which is photo day and is always a fun day!
Til than see you at Coors!
Despite the loss it is great to be home.
