Kansas City Royals vs. Colorado Rockies
Game 2 of series.
This was the second game of the series, I was at the first game of the series somehow I did not take my camera to the game and had no photos so did not do a post. The Royals did win the first game 7-4 Tyler Matzek started game 1 for the Rockies and had a pretty good outing till the 7th inning when the Rockies gave up 3 runs and K.C. too a 4-2 lead. Rex Brothers came in in the 8th and once again melted down, this time after getting 2 outs to the first 2 batters and then faced 6 more batters and let up 3 runs the Royals had a 7-2 lead. The Rockies got 2 back on a Drew Stubbs home run. James Shields started for the Royals and only gave up 2 runs and one was in the first to give the Rockies a lead in the first and the second was a Nolan Arenado homerun in the 5th.
This series I got 3 baseballs during batting practice 2 on Tuesday and 1 on Wednesday. The Tuesday game both came off of Brandon Barnes one was a bouncer that I picked up and caught the second. The third was hit by D.J. LeMahieu hit about 4 rows behind me a bounced back to me.
The second game Jorge De La Rosa was the starter for the Rockies after a lead off walk to Christian Colon he struck out Omar Infante and walked the 3rd batter Billy Butler, Josh Willingham hit into a double play to end the inning.
Danny Duffy started for the Royals Josh Rutledge started the bottom of the 1st with a single and stole second he was stranded at second as the next 3 batters got out.
The Royals scored the first run of the game in the 2nd a lead off home run by Alex Gordon this gave the royal a 1-0 lead. They took a 2 -0 lead 4t after Willingham started off the inning with double and scored 2batters later on a Erik Kratz sac fly to right.
Nolan Arenado got things started the bottom of the 4th off with a triple and scored on a Wilin Rosario sac fly to center. 2-1 Royals.
Matt McBride started his first game since being called up from Colorado Spring. He came up in the 6th inning with base’s loaded and 2 outs and was put to the big league test and I think he passed! He hit a grand slam home run and the Rockies took a 5-2 lead.
This was his 3rd career home run and 1st Grand Slam.
Here he is celebrating with the 3 runners that were on base.
With the 5-2 lead La Troy Hawkins came into pitch the 9th after a very good game by Jorge De La Rosa who pitched 8 innings Giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, he did walk 3 but also struck out three. He throw 103 pitches. It was great to see a starting pitcher come to bat for himself in the 7th inning! Not something we get to see much as Rockies fans. Hawkins got all 3 Royals out in the 9th and the Rockies won this game with the 5-2 to split this 2 game series with the Royals.
The Rockies celebrate this win.
Matt McBride gets the water bucket from teammate Charlie Blackmon.
That is it for this one. After a off day on Thursday the Rockies will have a 3 game series vs. the Miami Marlins.
See you at Coors.
Reds vs. Rockies
Today there was a double header The first game was the regularly scheduled Sunday afternoon game and the second was a make up from Saturday which was Postponed till a Sunday night. The reason was a water main break on Blake Street that provided the stadium with water on Saturday afternoon.
This being a Sunday it was an autograph Sunday today the signers were Tommy Kahnle , Brooks Brown, Jhoulys Chacin and Tyler Matzek. I was able to get Brooks on my 2014 Team project and Tyler Matzek on a 2012 California/Carolina League All Start game mini bat. That he and Christian Bergman both played in that game. I did get Christian on it earlier in the year. When the autographs were over it was time for the festivities to start for Todd Helton’s retirement ceremony. First the guest that were speaking were introduced Brad Hawpe and Matt Belilse. Drew Goodman from Root Sports MC’d the ceremony. Then Todd and his family were introduced on the field were his wife Kristy, their 2 daughters and I believe Kristy’s Parents and brother.
The first speaker was Brad Hawpe.
He spoke about playing with Todd and about his first big league spring training! Hawpe had always played 1st. base, but with Todd as the starting first baseman for years he had to change positions and how Todd in his dry humor way basically told him that! Over the years they became good friends which is why he was one of the speakers.
Todd and his youngest daughter Gentry Grace look on as the second speaker Matt Belilse speaks.
He spoke about how Todd helped him as a pitcher.
After Brad and Matt spoke it was tome for his older daughter Tierney Faith to speak she stole the show when she mentioned about dad being home a lot lately and if we would like him back!
I am keeping this brief because I know many have seen the speeches on T.V. or online.
The Montfort’s then presented Todd with a plaque of the 17, a replica of the one that is now hanging in the stadium.
They than unveiled the covered #17 that will be along with the Kelly McGreggor KSM and Jackie Robinson 42 . They are all above the visitors bullpen on the second level.
Todd than threw out the first pitch to former teammate Brad Hawpe.
Here they are after the pitch.
Todd gives a wave to the crowd.
Here he is before the National Anthem with the first pitch ball with the special #17 logo on it and with his daughter by his side.
After about the 1/2 hour ceremony it was time for the first game. I thought every involved did a great job with stories and there speaking about Todd. I thought him being presented a replica #17 from the Monforts was very cool. I did notice something that I thought was a little suspicious and that was our GM was not involved or on the field for this event. I just find it interesting that a teams GM would be MIA on such an important day in a teams history. Either he is already not involved or he doesn’t have a set of balls. I also find it odd that either Dick or Charlie Monfort did not speak either. I have never seen one of these and not sure if the owner would normally speak, so I will just leave it at that. Also somebody also mentioned that the Commissioner of baseball also was not at Coors and he usually does attend such events. Over all it was really great to be at Coors this day and have to thank the people who helped me with the location I was able to photograph from.
Now onto this interesting and action packed game!
Jordan Lyles was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. He sat the Reds down in order and threw 11 pitches in the inning. All 3 outs were ground outs and he kept the ball low in the strike zone.
Mat Latos was the starter for the Reds. He struck out Charlie Blackmon to start the inning. Drew Stubbs got things going with a double after that.
Stubbs’ double was followed with a Corey Dickerson double that scored Stubbs and gave the Rockies a 1-0 lead.
Dickerson’s double bounced around in the left field corner. Michael Cuddyer would come up next and grounded out for the second out of the inning.
Since the beginning of the game there was a slight rain but it just started to downpour during Cuddy’s at bat and there was thunder in the distance. They pulled the tarp with 2 outs and Dickerson on second. The delay lasted 21 minutes.
After the delay Arenado came to bat and scored a second run for the Rockies on a single that scored Dickerson and give the Rockies a 2-0 lead.
Lyles pitched well in the second and only had 1 base runner and that was a walk to Brayan Pena, he did record his first strike out of the game in the inning.
Blackmon came up in the 2nd inning with 2 outs and hit a solo home run and the Rockies had a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the 5th inning I was able to move to a better vantage point for photos and Lyles did allow his first hit of the game in the 4th that was a 2 run home run by Jay Bruce the second run was lead off batter Cozart who was hit with a pitch. The Rockies kept the lead 3-2.
Chris Heisey lead off the 5th inning by walking and Billy Hamilton came up with 1 out and hit a double advancing Heisey to third.
Heisey and Hamilton both scored on a Zach Cozart single. This gave the Reds a 4-3 lead.
Franklin Morales came in and pitched the 6th inning. The Reds immediately got to him and started off the inning with a Kris Negron solo home run, followed by a Skip Schumaker single and a Heisey double scored Negron and extended the Reds lead 6-3. Lyles pitched 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 5 hits walking 2 striking out 4.
Franklin Morales put down a bunt with Charlie Culberson on first. Culberson was forced out at second but Morales was safe at 1st.
The bottom of the 7th Dickerson lead off the inning with a home run into the fountain in center field. To cut the Reds lead down to 6-4.
Sam LeCure came into pitch for the Reds in the 6th and pitched into the 7th inning. After the Dickerson homer a single by Michael Cuddyer and Nolan Arenado, Jumbo Diaz came in to pitch for Reds.
With bases loaded Josh Rutledge came up an hit a sac fly to center that scored Cuddy from 3rd.
The run brought the Rockies within 1 run of the Reds still lead 6-5.
Juan Nicasio kept the Rockies in the game by holding the Reds off base in the 8th. He faced 3 batters and got out of the inning he did pitch deep in counts with 2 of the 3 batters throwing 7 pitches to Schumaker and 8 to pinch hitter jack Hannahan 18 in total in the inning. The only batter he didn’t throw many pitches to was heisey who grounded out on the 3rd pitch of a 1-1 count.
Jonathan Broxton pitched the 8th for the Reds giving up 1 single to Drew Stubbs and walked Dickerson. He did get out of the inning with a double play.
Rex Brothers pitched the 9th for the Rockies and The Reds immediately got on him, Hamilton started the inning with a double. Cozart did get out but the next 3 batters got on base either by hitting a single or being walked. One of those was a single by Bruce who scored Hamilton and extended the Reds lead to 7-5.
Hamilton sliding into second after his 9th inning hit. The Reds did score a 8th run and Brothers did get out of the inning after facing 8 batters and throwing 29 pitches in the inning.
Reds 100+ MPH closer Aroldis Chapman came into the game in the 9th. A closer like this is usually lights out, Not this game he walked 4 consecutive batters which gave the Rockies a run and the Reds now lead 9-6.
J. Hoover came in and pitched with base’s loaded and no outs he got the next 2 Rockies batters out and a run did score on a sac fly by Wilin Rosario. drew Stubbs came up with 2 out, 2 men on base and a Reds 2 run lead.
Stubbs hit a home run to left center field scoring the 3 runs the Rockies needed to win the game and the celebration started at home plate!
… and got the bucket!!!!
The Rockies won this game 10-9.
We then had to immediately leave the stadium so they could clean the stadium and do some field maintenance before the second game.
They basically had a half hour between games an had to clear the stadium and then get ready for the second game. The first game ended at about 6:30 and the gates for game 2 opened at 6:50 with a scheduled first pitch at 7:10.
by the time we grabbed some food and re-entered the stadium at 7:00 they were already doing the National Anthem for the second game. I headed down to where I normally sit for the first pitch and we were ready for the next 9 innings.
Yohan Flande started for the Rockies. He did not start as well as Lyles in the first game. He Gave up a double to Hamilton to start the game. Hamilton would scored when Jay Bruce hit into a fielders choice getting Ramon Santiago out at second. The Reds took a 1-0 lead in the first.
In the Bottom of the First Cuddy tried to get a 2 out rally going hitting a triple. He would remain on base when Nolan Arenado struck out.
Both Flande and Axelrod continued to pitch well giving up minimal hits and know runs till the bottom of the 5th. (When our at the bottom of your 5th)!
Brandon Barnes hit a lead off solo homer to get the Rockies on the board and tie the game at 1.
Walt Weiss removed Fande in the 6th inning after giving up a 2 run home run to the Reds Ryan Ludwick. Kris Negron hit a single and than scored on a Pena double. The Reds got a total of 3 runs in the inning and took a 4-1 lead.
When Flande was removed from the game Brookes Brown came in and pitched to the next 2 batters getting both batters out.
Brown remained in the game in the 7th and Hamilton got his 3rd hit of the game with 1 out. He than stole second base and the ball was thrown short to Rutledge who missed the ball on the bounce and it ended up in center field, Hamilton would reach third on the error. He would score and the Reds had a 5-2 lead.
The Rockies got thing going in the 7th Blackmon started the inning with a walk when he pinch hit in the pitchers spot.
Rutledge hit a single and Dickerson followed up with a single scouring Blackmon for the Rockies first run of the inning.
After the run the Reds still had a 5-3 lead.
Cuddyer hit a single in the 8th he now has a triple, home run and a single in this game.
The Rockies picked up 2 more runs on a Arenado hit that got Dickerson out at third but scored Rutledge, after a bad throw by the Reds 3rd baseman Santiago that scored Cuddy and Arenado ended up on third and the Rockies tied the game at 5.
Dickerson watches the ball after being out at third and coaches Cuddy who was coming down the line.
Cuddy sliding into home to tie the game!
Adam Ottavino came in in the 8th inning and shut down the Reds batters in the inning striking out 2 and Getting Pena to ground out for the third out. He pitched better in this inning then I have seen him pitch in a while. He got out of the inning with 9 pitches, pitching the most 4 pitches to Negron who struck out.
for the second game they invited back the rally guy from game 1 and he moved down to the lower level for the 8th inning. He was dancing in the upper deck during the first game 9th inning when the Rockies scored the 5 runs to come back and win that game. So by popular demand he was invited back by the Rockies for game 2!
With 2 outs and Brandon Barnes, Charlie Culberson and Josh Rutledge on base Dickerson hit a double. scoring Barnes and Culberson to give the Rockies a 7-5 lead.
Michael Cuddyer came to the plate and I noticed something on my score card and then confirmed it on the board. Cuddy only needed a double to complete the cycle. with a 1-1 count he hit a Manny Parra slider to left field.
He made the turn at 1st as the ball was still in the outfield.
he got the double and completed the cycle, this was his second of his career and he is only the 4th in MLB history to do it in both the American and National league.
Cuddy would slid into home once again for the Rockies 10th run of the game on a Drew Stubbs single. The Rockies had a 10-5 lead.
LaTroy Hawkins came into pitch the 9th and sat the Reds down in order to end the game and give the Rockies the sweep of the double header and 3 or the 4 games this weekend series.
The Rockies and Cuddy celebrate their second win of the day. This is more wins in one day they have gotten in some weeks lately. cuddy went 4 for 5 this game scoring 3 RBI’s and scoring 3 times. This was a great comeback day for him since this was the first day he played at Coors in almost 2 months. He went 5 for 10 on the day. He was also the 5th Rockies player to hit for the cycle.
it was time for the post season interview and the second bucket dump of the day!
He was warned to duck by the guys in the booth and Brandon Barnes got him pretty good!
These were 2 great games by the Rockies, it shows they do have potential to make things happen and it reminded me of the games they played early this season. The Bull Pen kept them in both games, they got pretty good starts from the starters and the bats where there when needed. A lot of guys stepped up this game. I wish they were able to do this for the last few months. These games would matter a lot more then a double header sweep or a series win.
It was an amazing day of baseball at Coors I am glad I was there for this day and to witness history twice this day, once with the retirement of the # 17 and then Cuddy hitting for the cycle. can not forget the 2 very dramatic games and wins in both.
So that is it for this one very long day at the ballpark.
Reds vs. Rockies
Game 2 of series
I have know clue how many games this is for me!
So once again because of the perfectly timed storm there was no batting practice once again!
No this is not the 4th inning of another bad start for the Rockies starters Matt Belisle got the start for the Rockies for this game because Franklin Morales was suppose to start but could not because of his wife expecting a baby. Belisle started a little shaky but settled down after the first 2 batters he faced hit single he did get out of the inning and the Reds remained scoreless till the 3rd inning.
Johnny Cueto started for the Reds.
Charlie Blackmon got on base after the ball that got passed first baseman Jack Hannahan
The Rockies did not score in the first inning but did get a run in the 2nd a solo home run by Nolan Arenado. The Reds got their first run in the 3rd Johnny Cuerto lead off the inning with a single and then scored on a Jay Bruce sac ground out to tie the game 1-1
The second inning saw the Reds get there second run and the Rockies would than again tie the game in the 6th. In the 6th Justin Morneau started the inning with a walk and scored on a Corey Dickerson double.
If you did not notice I did not take many photos this game! There was not much going on and because of a elbow that has been giving me trouble since before my road trip is making hard to hold a camera for an extended amount of time. I am not really sure how I got through a couple of games during my trip it was that bad. I think I may be day today after this weekend!!!
Back to baseball the Reds scored a third run in the 9th inning and got the 3-2 win. O.K. the bull pen did not do that bad this game but the Rockies still lost. Ottavino took the lose and Cueto who pitched 8 innings got the win. He threw 106 pitches in the eight innings he pitched. Belise went 3 innings throwing 49 pitches, giving up 4 hits and 1 run, striking out and walking 1. The Rockies did use 6 pitchers in this game Nick Masset pitched the 4th and 5th. Nicasio the 6th, Brothers the 7th Boone Logan and Adam Ottavino the 8th and Ottavino continued till the 9th.
So that is it for this brief game.
There was a really great sunset during this game and I did manage to take a few photos of it!
That is it for this one!
Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
Game 3 of series
My 2nd game of series
12th game of road trip
3rd state to see a game this trip and 5th state to see a game this year. (not including AZ for Spring Training)
I did not really get to many photos of the out side of the stadium the first game, so today I got to the stadium slightly earlier to do some of that. I also had to wait for Jared because he had tickets at will call. he was also doing a trip and was in Chicago for 2 games of that series.
They had these tigers with baseballs in their mouths all around the stadium.
They also had the street light banners like many stadiums do. I was more impressed that this city had street lamps and electricity!
They had some cool details around the stadium like these tile baseballs.
These tile logos around an entrance were pretty cool also.
Jared arrive I got my ticket and we headed into the stadium another feature the stadium has is a carousel with all the animals being tigers.
After a few rides on the carousel we headed over by the wall to see if we could get some autographs. I had to pry Jared off the thing after some minor crying and slightly wetting his pants he gave in!!!!!! O.K. that didn’t happen.
But this did…
Walt Weiss had a catch with one of his son’s in the dugout. I thought that was pretty cool. I was also a little jealous that these kids get to travel with their parents and do all this including shag baseballs in the outfield during batting practice and just are able to experience these things. Like playing catch with your dad in a dugout of a major league stadium.
Brett Anderson and Tyler Matzek both stopped and signed after they did their throwing.
The seats at this stadium had these really cool tigers on the ends. I always think this is a really cool detail that people over look at a lot of the stadiums. Most do have some really unique stuff.
Matt Belilse stands and waits for the colors to leave the field, only one thing there was no color guard today! it is cool that he gives that moment before the games anyway.
Anibal Sanchez started for the Tigers.
Josh Rutledge makes contact during his 1st. inning at bat.
He grounded out to short for the second out of the inning.
Jorge De La Rosa started for the Rockies.
After the first inning we headed up to our seats.
Here is an example of why nobody has said the word “Detroit sure is beautiful this time of year”! The stadium is really nice but it seems like a mirage in the desert of disconcert surrounding area.
After those photos it was time to get creative, so here is a creative BNW to show off the made photo skillz!
Talking about disconcert back to the Rockies game! Tori Hunter grounded out to start off the 2nd for the Tigers.
Here is a look at downtown from the upper deck.
You can’t tell that everything in the other direction is almost ready to be demolished.
Jorge Pitching to J.D. Matinez in the 2nd.
The Rockies did not do much in the top of the 3rd. they did manage to get their first hit a single by Brandon Barnes.
Jorge did get the first 2 batters out in the bottom of the 3rd. and then the Rally began, Rahj Davis started off with a double. Ian Kinsler was than hit by a pitch.Miguel Cabrera hit a single that scored Davis and the Tigers took a 1-0 lead.
Victor Martinez hit a 3 run homer.
This gave the Tigers a 4-0 lead.
Jorge did strike out Hunter for the 3rd. out of the inning and it was time for the Chevy race which is way cooler and not as creepy as the random dental product race at Coors.
Not much happened in this game till the 7th. when Jorge was taken out of the game by Walt Weiss. The Tigers did get 2 hits in the 5th but no runs came from it. the Rockies only had the 1 hit till Drew Stubbs hit a single in the 7th. Jorge went 6.2 innings and really did not pitch that bad he did strike out 6 and gave up the 4 runs in the 3rd. The 1 walk he allowed did hurt him with the Martinez home run but the 3rd run did not really matter.
Tommy Kahnle came into pitch for the Rockies.
Joba Chamberlain came in to pitch for the Tigers in the 8th. Sanchez pitched 7 complete innings only giving up 2 hits striking out 12 batters.
The Tigers above the score board was as fear looking as Sanchez’s pitching! Thought these were pretty cool.
Adam Ottavino pitched the 8th inning for the Rockies.
Rahj Davis makes the catch and the Tigers win this game and swept the Rockies. The start by Jorge was not to bad, the 3rd inning was his only bad inning. He did have runners on in most innings but worked his way out of it. The pitching did keep the Rockies in the game but there was absolutely no bats against Sanchez. The Rockies scrapped out 4 hits only 2 off Sanchez and 1 of each of the Tigers relievers.
So that is it from Detroit I have made the turn back west and still have a few games left before going back to Denver 1 in Indianapolis and 2 others.
see you around.
Rockies vs. Tigers
Comerica Park, Detroit Michigan
Game 2 of series.
My 1st. game of the series.
This was my first time at this stadium so I arrived a slight bit early to take a walk around the stadium and check it out. I also got there early because I was not sure what the lines woud be like because they were giving away Pudge Rodriguez Figurines or Statues ( Did not take mine out of the box yet).
I headed in for batting practice and I started out in right field and then went to left. The gate I entered was close to right field and Corey Dickerson and Charlie Blackmon were in the first group so I like my chances to get a baseball. I did not get one in that group and figured that most of the rest of the batters were righties and headed to left. Had a few close but still did not get a ball. So got shut out in BP.
Then I wandered the concourse a little these are statues they have in left field I took this photo from the seats because you really can’t get a good photo from the concourse because they are facing the field and there is not much room between the fence and their base’s.
This is a photo I got of the Ty Cobb statue.
While I was on the concourse I ran into Dan from Coors Field and Mark who is from Charlotte they meet up for a away series and I have actually ran into them in N.Y. a few years ago.
Mark Left, Dan Middle, Me right!
Around the concourse they had these columns that had different years through out the years of Tigers history. This from 1990’s.
These are 2 more 1 from the 1980’s and the second from 1910. These were all about 25 feet tall and had different years on each side.
Pudge Rodriguez threw out the “First Pitch” or as he did throw to second. He started on the mound and then had Anibal Sanchez who was catching him go to second base and he went to home and tossed over to second. Fitting since he was a catcher!
Anibal Sanchez at second to make the catch from Pudge.
Rick Porcello was the starting pitcher for the Tigers or as the were called today Los Tigres, it was Latin American day at Comerica.
After Getting the first 2 Rockies out Corey Dickerson reached base on an error by Ian Kinsler at second base.
After reaching second when Nolan Arenado walked he got caught stealing third to end the inning.
Tyler Matzek started for the Rockies.
He did not start by getting 2 outs he started the game giving up a double to Rahj Davis.
Davis scored when Miguel Cabrera hit into a double play.
That gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
The Rockies got on the board in the second inning and gave Matzek some run support. Their first run was a Justin Morneau, he scored on a Drew Stubbs double to tie the game. Drew Stubbs scored on a Charlie Culberson ground out to give the Rockies a 2-1 lead.
Tori Hunter walked to start off the 2nd inning and on a ball hit by J.D. Martinez Arenado made a great play, throwing from 1 knee to get Hunter at 2nd.
Hunter came in just a bit hard into second and sent Culberson flying to break up the double play. The tigers went on to score their second run to tie the game at 2 in the second. J.D. Martinez score on a Alex Avila single.
They also have a race here in Detroit and this one is sponsored by Chevy It is 3 cars that run from center field to around first base. It is a lot better then the random dental products race at Coors and the characters are not as creepy! The Bella Air after the Classic Chevy car, Petey Pick-up and Corey Vette.
The Rockies did not do anything in the 3rd and the tigers scored 1 on a Cabrera solo home run to center. That home run tied him for 6th place with Lou Whitaker on the all time Tigers list with 244 home runs.
Drew Stubbs Hit a triple with one out in the 4th for the Rockies and was left on base after Wilin Rosario and Mike McKenry both struck out. They were both in the game because of the DH in an American League park. Rosario was actually at 1st and Morneau was the DH this game.
The tigers extended their lead in the 4th by another 2 runs to give them a 5-2 lead. Nick Catellanos hit a triple with 2 outs and Avila hit a double and on a Eugenio Suarez single.
The Scoring continued in the 5h for the Tigers when Kinsler started the inning with a triple. The Rockies walked Cabrera and Victor Martinez showed them why that was a bad idea, he hit a home run and gave the Tigers 3 more runs for a 8-2 lead. No if Cabrera hit a homer it would have been on 2 more runs (sarcasm). But in reality the odds of a second homer in consecutive at bats is kinda slim even with a guy like Cabrera.
V. Martinez celebrating with the 2 runners he hit in after his stroll around the base’s.
Matt Belilse came into pitch for the Rockies in the 5th to try and stop the bleeding or add salt to the wound. See it how you wish! Matzek pitched 4 innings giving up 10 hits, 8 runs striking out, walking and giving up 2 home runs. I was a little nervous when they brought him up and he started out well in his debut, since he has turned into another Rockies starter that struggles and doesn’t get run support to make it easier ion him. I think some of these guys pitch slightly better when there is a little cushion in the run department. So back to Belilse and the salt in the wounds! He did get the next 2 batters out in the 5th. In the 6th he did give up the 9th run of the game for the Tigers.
Rex brothers came in to pitch the 7th for the Rockies and well he gave up a run also a homer to the J.D. Martinez for the 10th run in the game and a run in the first 7 innings.
LaTroy Hawkins got in on in the 8th and could not be left out of the runs scored against the Colorado pitchers and gave up one in the 8th for the 11th run for the Tigers and yeas a run in every inning they have come to bat. A bit more on that in a minute.
The Rockies tried for a valiant come back in the 9th Arenado started the inning with a walk Brandon Barnes hit a double followed by a drew Stubbs single to score Arenado and cut the lead to only 8 runs 11-3 tigers. Wilin Rosario would then hit a double scouring Barnes cutting the lead to 7!!!!
The Rally then fell apart after the Tigers removed Phil Coke from the game and replaced him with Pat McCoy who got the next 3 batters out and ended the game with a 11-4 win for the Tigers.
Josh Rutledge made the final out by striking out swinging.
So the 8 runs in all 8 innings was the first time the Tigers since 1912. The Rockies once again making history for other teams one game at a time! This was also the first time it was done since 2006 when the Yankees did it against the blue Jays. it was also only the 5th time in the last 35 years that it has been done in the Majors. The Rockies have actually done it twice.
here is a look at the final line of this game with the 8 scoring innings by the Tigers.
Don’t See This Every Day!
That is it for this game in Detroit have another coming up from Sundays game!
Minnesota Twins vs. Colorado Rockies
Game 1 & 2
Despite all the baseball games I have seen this is the first time I am seeing the Twins play. Their are only a few teams I have not seen the others are the Detroit Tigers (which I will see later this month in Detroit) and the Baltimore Orioles (they have just not been to Coors since I have been attending games) I was suppose to see them once in Shea Stadium playing the Mets, but for some reason we were not able to go.
Jorge De La Rosa started for the Rockies this game. He faced 3 batters in the inning Brian Dozier made a quick out grounding out on the second pitch to him. Kurt Suzuki hit a single and Kendrys Morales hit into a double play to end the inning.
Jorge looks to first base during the Morales at bat with Suzuki on first.
Carlos Gonzalez was back in the Rockies line up after being on the D.L. for almost 2 months. He started in right field.
Charlie Blackmon and Drew Stubbs helped to get the Rockies on the board in the first against Twins starter Kris Johnson 0 lead in the first. The Twins did get 1 back in the second, Trevor Plouffe started with a double and scored when Eduardo Nunez grounded out. Plouffe reached third on a wild pitch during Oswaldo Arcia at bat. The Rockies extended their lead in the bottom of the 2nd, Nolan Arenado started it off with a triple and scored on a Wilin Rosario single. (3-1) Rox In the 3rd inning they extended their lead with 2 more runs on a Troy Tulowitzki home run with Cargo on base. (5-1) Rox
Samuel Deduno came into the game in the 5th inning for the Twins. Deduno was with the Rockies organization from 2004 – 2010 and played in 4 games for the Rockies in 2010. Johnson went 4 innings, the Rockies scored 5 runs on 8 hits against him. He struck out 2 and did not walk anyone. This was his second MLB appearance.
Jorge went 6 innings and only allowed the 1 run on 6 hits, striking out 3 and walking 1. The Rockies won this game 6-2. The 6th run was a solo shot by Brandon Barnes in the 7th inning.

It is a lot of fun to just hang out with friends and interact with the players and coaches. This year I actually delayed my road trip till the day after when I should have left Denver Thursday or Friday.
Tyler Matzek started for the Rockies. The Twin immediately started getting hits off him the first batter Brian Dozier hit a ball back at Matzek that hit him on the mound and deflected into foul territory down the 3rd base side. Dozier ended up getting to second on the play. The 3rd batter of the inning Kendry Morales hit a double to score Dozier and Eduardo Escobar to give the Twins a 2-0 lead.
Dozier slide into second for his lead off double.
Being called safe.
Escobar trying to put down a bunt in the first inning. He did get on base by a fielders choice play.
Morales running to first while Dozier runs home for the first run for the twins and Morales ended up on second.
Escobar also scored on the double by Morales.
Kevin Correia started for the Twins. Charlie Blackmon started the game off with and single and was left on base as Correia got the next 3 Rockies batters out.
Cargo loses the bat during his first inning at bat. He did fly out to right for the first out of the inning.
Tulo flew out to center for his 1st inning at bat.
Cargo making contact during his 4th inning at bat. He would line out this at bat.
The Rockies scored a run in the 5th inning on a Charlie Blackmon single scoring D.J. LeMahieu. The Twins had a 4-2 lead. They scored 1 in the 4th and 5th. The 4th inning was a lead off solo home run by Escobar and the 5th was a Double by Correia double scoring Josh Willingham.
Brandon Barnes pitch hit in the pitchers spot in the 8th inning.
Blackmon trying to get things going with this 9th inning single with Josh Rutledge on first. Ruthledge would score on a Cargo double and Blackmon would score on a Tulowitzki ground out. The twins won this game 9-3. they scored 2 in the 8th and 9th inning.
That is it for this game the Rockies last. They faced the Twins on Sunday which I was not at the game because I was heading east for my road trip. I did get to hear the first 2 innings on the radio before loosing the signal in the middle of Kansas. The Twins scored 5 runs in the first off of Brett Anderson who made his first start after being on the D.l. since April with a broken hand. He had pitched well in both his rehab starts. The Rockies lost 13-5.
I am Currently in Raleigh for the Triple a All-Star game in Durham. My next post will be about the Triple A home run derby which was last night.

Padres vs. Rockies series
The fist game was Monday Night and before the game I hit up batting practice and got 2 baseballs one I got on a bounce and the second I caught both were from the Padres. These were my 17th and 18th baseball of the year. This keeps me on the pace of about 35 to 40 baseballs for the year, that is what I normally will get in a average year at MLB Stadiums.
Tyler Matzek made his 6th MLB start since being brought up in early June from the Sky Sox. He faced only 3 batters in the first. Matzek pitched into the 7th inning giving up 5 runs on 8 hits. he kept it together pretty well for most of his outing only facing 10 Paadres batters in the first 3 innings and striking out 4 in the game. He was taken out in the 7th inning where the Padres got 3 runs to were against Matzek. Matt Belisle came into pitch the 7th the first batter he faced was Chase Headley who hit a triple to score the 2 runs against Maatzek and then he would score to give the Padres a 6-1 lead.
The Rockies run came in the 4th inning on a Drew Stubbs solo home run to tie the game at 1. The Padres first run came earlier in the inning When Headley scored on a Brooks Conrad sac fly to right field.
As the game was being played we pretty much watched a storm roll in and here is a shot I got of lightning before the game went into a 56 minute rain delay.
After the rain delay Chad Bettis came out to pitch for the Rockies. He would pitch the 8th and 9th inning allowing only 2 hits and striking out 2. The Rockies dropped game 1 6-1 and found themselves in soul position of last place in the west and worst record in all of Major League Baseball. Congrats on trying for the first pick in the 2015 draft! Got to spin this positive somehow! They are 37-53 this season.
The jsecond game on Tuesday night saw Franklin Morales start the game. This was his 2nd start after being sent to the bullpen in late May.
After giving up a lead off double to Chris Denorfia he struck out 3 batters in a row. The above is Chase Headley taking a swing for a strike.
Cody Ross started for the Padres and Charlie Blackmon started the inning for the Rockies with a lead off double and then he would get the next 3 batters out also including striking out Drew Stubbs and Troy Tulowitzki.
Charlie Blackmon sliding into second for his 1st inning lead off double.
His next at bat was in the 3rd inning and it was a 2 run home run to give the Rockies a lead.
Franklin Morales was taken out of the game in the 6th inning with 2 outs after a Rene Rivera solo home run to cut the rockies lead to 1 run. (2-1) Rockies.
Brooks Brown came into pitch for his second appearance with the Rockies since his call up from The Sky sox last week. He got the Rockies out of the inning.
Drew Stubbs stealing 2nd base after his 1 out single in the 8th inning.
Alex Torres started the 8th inning for the Padres he is the first pitcher to use the new protective hat made for the pitchers. The over sized padded hat looks is a lot larger then a normal game hat and no other pitcher has chose to wear it. It has been compared to the hat that the super Mario Brothers wore in the video games. He it is a good idea but is a little obtrusive looking but it is good that the pitchers do have the option to wear it if they want. I think it needs a little work before it catches on and needs to be slightly streamlined for more guys to wear it regularly.
Seth smith came into pinch hit in the 9th inning for the Padres and did what he was always did late in games and that is get a hit tonight it was a 2 out double for Mr. Late Night, but did not result into a run for the Padres. Denorfia would make the last out of the game and for the first time in a few days we did not have to watch a bottom of the 9th inning as the Rockies won this game 2-1. Who would of thought that a game that Franklin Morales and Tyson Ross would start would be such a low scoring game. Especial with Morales entering the game with a 5.50 ERA.
The Rockies got to celebrate this win and Charlie Blackmon with his 2 run home run was the player of the game. he went 2 for 4 with the 1st inning double and 3rd inning home run. for those living under a Rockies he was selected as a reserve for the 2014 National League All-Star team.
Jair Jurrens started for the Rockies for Wednesdays day game it was his second start since coming to the Rockies from the Reds organization.
He allowed the Padres first batter to get on a base a single by Seth Smith. He would than get the next 3 batters out including striking out Chase Headley and Yasmani Grandal.
The Rockies, mainly Charlie Blackmon would get on the board fast against Padres starter Eric Stultz.
He hit a lead off solo home run.
Two batters later Troy Tulowitzki would also hit a solo home run to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead.
In his 7th MLB at bat Kyle Parker who started at first this game, got his first MLB hit!
Jurrens was taken out of the game with 2 outs in the 5th inning and Tommy Kahnle would finish the 5th and pitch the 6th inning. He struck out Will Venerable to to end the inning. Jurrens went 5.2 innings and gave up 3 runs on 8 hits striking out 6 and walking 2.
rex Brothers pitched the 7th and Boone Logan pitched the 8th inning for the Rockies.
The Rockies would add 3 run to their total in the 8th with a 2 run home run by drew Stubs scoring himself and Charlie Blackmon. To give the Rockies 5-3 lead. Then Tulo would follow it up with his second home run of the game to extend the lead to 6-3.
Yasmani Grandal hit a hi pop fly to left to end the game and get the series win for the Rockies.
Brandon Barnes makes the catch to end the game and give the Rockies their first series win in what seems like forever! The Final for this one was 6-3.
The Rockies celebrate their second win in a row. Troy Tulowitzki was player of the game which I don’t fully agree with he did hit 2 home runs. I do think Drew Stubbs that gave the Rockies the 5-3 lead and broke the tie should have gotten it because he gave the team the lead but I guess 2 RBI’s on 2 solo shots means more then the guy who gave the team the lead in the first place. Well that is it for this one.
I will be at 2 of the 3 games against the Twins before heading out on my 2014 Baseball Adventure. Which I will be at the Triple A All-Star game and then Greensboro, Winston-Salem, I will finally get to the Carolina Mudcats and see the New Charlotte Stadium in Downtown Charlotte before moving on to the Mid-West for a bunch of games more info to follow.
See you at Coors and Around!
