Reds vs. Rockies
Game 2 of series
I have know clue how many games this is for me!
So once again because of the perfectly timed storm there was no batting practice once again!
No this is not the 4th inning of another bad start for the Rockies starters Matt Belisle got the start for the Rockies for this game because Franklin Morales was suppose to start but could not because of his wife expecting a baby. Belisle started a little shaky but settled down after the first 2 batters he faced hit single he did get out of the inning and the Reds remained scoreless till the 3rd inning.
Johnny Cueto started for the Reds.
Charlie Blackmon got on base after the ball that got passed first baseman Jack Hannahan
The Rockies did not score in the first inning but did get a run in the 2nd a solo home run by Nolan Arenado. The Reds got their first run in the 3rd Johnny Cuerto lead off the inning with a single and then scored on a Jay Bruce sac ground out to tie the game 1-1
The second inning saw the Reds get there second run and the Rockies would than again tie the game in the 6th. In the 6th Justin Morneau started the inning with a walk and scored on a Corey Dickerson double.
If you did not notice I did not take many photos this game! There was not much going on and because of a elbow that has been giving me trouble since before my road trip is making hard to hold a camera for an extended amount of time. I am not really sure how I got through a couple of games during my trip it was that bad. I think I may be day today after this weekend!!!
Back to baseball the Reds scored a third run in the 9th inning and got the 3-2 win. O.K. the bull pen did not do that bad this game but the Rockies still lost. Ottavino took the lose and Cueto who pitched 8 innings got the win. He threw 106 pitches in the eight innings he pitched. Belise went 3 innings throwing 49 pitches, giving up 4 hits and 1 run, striking out and walking 1. The Rockies did use 6 pitchers in this game Nick Masset pitched the 4th and 5th. Nicasio the 6th, Brothers the 7th Boone Logan and Adam Ottavino the 8th and Ottavino continued till the 9th.
So that is it for this brief game.
There was a really great sunset during this game and I did manage to take a few photos of it!
That is it for this one!
Braves vs. Rockies
Game 4 of series
Jhoulys Chacin started this day game for the Rockies. Chacin was in his old form for this game he was getting ahead in counts early against the Braves batters and his stuff was really working he retired the Braves in order including a strike out to B.J. Upton.
Here is D.J. LeMahieu getting the first out of the inning Jason Heyward.
Ervin Santana started for the Braves and Charlie Blackmon did what he does best and that is lead off with an extra base hit.
Charlie just being Nazty as he makes the big turn around first and heading to second!
The Rockies bats were not able to get him home for a run as Santana had a good inning after giving up the double. He got the next 3 batters out in order including striking out both Josh Rutledge and Wilin Rosario.
Corey Dickerson tried to stretch a double into a triple and did not miss it by much to lead off the 2nd inning, he was out at third and the Rockies would go down in order again and it looked like the offensive slump would return. The Bats came alive in the 3rd as D.J. LeMahieu started the inning with a walk not exactly a bat coming alive but a base runner. He was caught stealing and Jhoulys Chacin got on base with a single and Blackmon came up with a Chacin on and even better then hitting doubles and that is hitting home runs and that put the Rockies on the board with a 2-0 lead. Blackmon has 10 double this season and 12 homers.
Drew Stubbs takes a swing in the 4th inning that resulted in the third out of the inning.
The Rockies did get a 3rd run in the 6th inning a solo home run by Justin Morneau. The Rockies had a 3-0 lead.
Corey Dickerson slides into home for the Rockies first of 5 runs in the 7th inning.
Jordan Walden came in with 1 out in the 7th to replace Ervin Santana. Santana went 6 1/3rd. giving up 6 runs on 7 hits. striking out 8 but giving up 2 homers and walking 2.
Chacin went a full 7 and gave up only 2 hits. He struck out 5 and walked 2. Great to see him pitch so well, it has been a while.
Justin Morneau stands on first after a 2 run single. Those runs gave the Rockies a 6 run lead.
Wilin Rosario watches a pitch go by during his 7th inning at bat he was the 9th batter for the Rockies in the inning. In total they scored 5 runs and took a 8-0 lead.
Adam Ottavino pitched the 8th inning for the Rockies And gave up 3 runs to the Braves 2 on a home run to B.J. Upton.
Tulo tosses gum out to the crowd between innings.
After taking a foul tip off the mask during Corey Dickerson at bat Braves catcher Gerald Laird got hit by Dickerson’s swing.
The next pitch Braves relief pitcher David Carpenter hit Dickerson with a pitch and this is where the game became crazy. After Dickerson had words with Carpenter…
Walt came out and pretty much had words with everyone! Yelling at Carpenter and the Umpire.
He was then tossed from the game. Carpenter was immediately thrown out after Dickerson was hit.
Arguments continued all over the place and the Rockies bench got warned to stay in the dugout.
Walt Continued to argue.
Walt Leaving the field. This was the most fired up I have ever seen Walt it was nice to see.
That Renee Lachman gave the ump an ear full. That must have been an interesting conversation!
Anthony Varvaro replaced Carpenter and the Rockies picked up another 2 runs in the inning.
This was only half of the ejections for the inning. After the Braves came up to the plate and Nick Masset came into pitch…
He hit Evan Gattis who was the 3rd Braves batter in the inning with 2 outs.
Nick Masset and Bench Coach Tommy Runnels were then ejected for a total of 3 Rockies being thrown out and a total of 4 players and coaches.
Masset standing on the mound after hitting Gattis.
Matt Belisle came into pitch the last out for the Rockies.
Lach pulled Terry Pendelton over to the side after the game. Just could imagine what was said.
The Rockies won this game 10-3.
This seems to be a result of a lot of frustration over the past few weeks. Dickerson being hit was also the second Rockies batter to be hit in as many days. Josh Rutledge was hit in the head on Wednesday. The Braves thought Dickerson hit Laird on purpose, now Dickerson is a very good player and is very talented with the bat, but for him to be able to foul tip a ball and intentionally hit catcher would take an incredible amount of talent and skill. This was one of the craziest game I have seen in a long time. It was nice to see a little fire in Walt and hopefully this win is the boost this team needs to get things together. As I am writing this the Rockies have won 2 game in the 9th inning against the Giants in San Francisco. This is the first series win there in over 4 years and are going for the sweep later this afternoon. The Rockies are now 2 games under .500 with a 33-35 record and are 9.5 games behind the giants and are 3rd place in the National League West.
So that is it for this one I have another post coming from Fridays night game in the Springs.
Atlanta Braves vs. Colorado Rockies
This game saw another MLB debut for a Rockies pitcher this game it was Christian Bergman’s turn. He pitched a very good first inning striking out 2 of the 4 batters he faced. The only base runner was Jason Heyward who reached based on a Troy Tulowitzki error at short. Bergman pitched 3 no hit innings and the Braves started getting hits in the 4th inning the first by B.J. Upton and the Second by Freddie Freeman both scored in the inning Upton on a Evan Gattis grounder and Freeman when Chris Johnson hit a single. That would give the Braves a 2-0 lead. He pitched well in the 5th inning which he got out of throwing only 10 pitches. The Braves swinging at the 1st or 2nd pitch helped keep the pitch count low and the 5 he threw to B.J. Upton was half the pitches for the inning. Bergman pitched a complete 6 innings striking out 4, He allowed only 5 hits and 2 runs and he walked 2.
Christian Bergman warming up in the bullpen before his start.
Throwing his first pitch, a ball to Jason Heyward.
He also got his first MLB hit in his 3rd inning at bat.
In the 7th inning Corey Dickerson hit a lead off solo home run to give the Rockies their first run of the game and cut the Braves lead by 1. The Score was 2-1. The Rockies threatened slightly in the inning with 2 outs after D.J. LeMahieu walked and Brandon Barnes hit a double. Barnes came into pinch hit for the pinch hitter Ryan Wheeler in the pitchers spot after the Braves changed pitchers after Wheeler was announced. Luis Avilan Came into replace Gavin Floyd who started for the Braves.
Rex Brother pitched the 7th for the Rockies, he pitched well in the inning striking out 3 of the 4 Braves batters he faced. The only base runner he allowed was a walk to Heyward.
The Braves scored a 3rd run in the 8th with a little small ball off of Adam Ottavino. Ottavino walked Justin Upton who scored on a Chris Johnson single.
Mike McKenry hits a ball to center in the 9th inning for the second out of the 9th inning for the Rockies.
Craig Kimbrel who came in to close the game for the Braves came in a little close to Charlie Culberson during his 9th inning at bat. Culberson would eventfully walk.
Wilin Rosario could not catch up to this Kimbrel fast ball to strike out and end the game.
The Rockies would lose this one 3-1.
They are now 29-34 and it seems that the season is quickly getting away from them. They also had more bad news on Monday when Michael Cuddyer is out with a broken shoulder and Carlos Gonzalez was going to have exploratory surgery on his finger.
So that is it for this 1 and now onto the next one!
See You at Coors!
Colorado Rockies @ Kansas City Royals
Kauffman Stadium, K.C., Missouri
My 18th game of the year
1st away game!
This was my first time to Kauffman driven by it many time on other road trips. I decided to go to this stadium because it is actually the closest stadium to Denver. The Rockies have not been there for a few years and will not be there for at least another 3 years. So we arrived at the stadium very early to get players and coaches arriving. It is a very good stadium to get away teams autographs. The players have to walk from the parking lot to a entrance about 100 or so feet away and also have to walk from the bus to entrance to the stadium. This day I was able to get Walt Weiss on a baseball card, Eric Young, Carlos Gonzalez and Franklin Morales on a 8×10.
After entering the stadium with the early bird tour I was able to get Nick Masset and Corey Dickerson on my team project so I figured I would then head out to the outfield to see if I could shag a baseball and I did I got a ball that bounce off the track threw the gate for the bullpen and up into my glove. The ball was hit by Cargo or Justin Morneau. While I was out in right field Nolan Arenado signed and Jared grabbed my team project and got him on it. Now I only need Troy Tulowitzki on it and Rene Lachman. I did not realize I needed Lach till earlier that day after he walked past me when he arrived. I did try getting him at the wall before going out to BP but did not get him.
While waiting by the dugout I saw this sitting on the rail of the dugout. It is Nolan Arenados with the Gold Rawlings patches on it, Because he was the Gold Glove 3rd baseman last year. The early bird ticket was O.K. but I thought there would be a little more to it then just being able to get in 1 hour earlier than the regular gate time. I thought it would be a stadium tour then go down to dugouts or BP before the gates open but basically it just brought you down to the dugout you chose and was able to stay behind that dugout.
The Rockies stretching before batting practice. It was cool to be in the stadium early because we very rarely see much of the Rockies warm up and batting practice at Coors. So before the game was a pretty productive because I got a bunch of autographs and a batting practice ball.
James Shields was the starting pitcher for the Royals. He started with a quick 1,2,3 inning against the top of the Rockies line up.
Franklin Morales started for the Rockies and Nori Aoki hit a lead off single. He then walked the third batter of the inning Billy Butler. The Rockies got out of the inning with a double play hit by Salvador Perez.
The Game was relatively un eventful and there was not much action the Royals scored a run in the first on a Alcides Escobar single that scored Johnny Giavotella. The Rockies did get a second double play in for the first 2 outs of the inning Alex Gordan at second He walked to lead off the inning) and Danny Valencia at first. Aoki ended the inning by flying out to center. The Royals took a 1-0 lead.
In the 4th the Rockies got a run by playing a little small ball Tulo scored on a Morneau single to get the Rockies run and tie the game. The Royals scored 2 more on a Lorenzo Cain home run to give the Royal a 3-1 lead.
In the 4th I decided to take a walk around the stadium. To get a few photos from a different vantage point and see the stadium. This is a photo of the Royals second home run of the game off Morales a solo shot to right by Salvador Perez in the 5th inning extending the Royals lead to 4-1
Alex Gordon stealing 2nd in the 5th inning. He walked after the Perez homer but did not score.
Between inning they put the fountains on and I was trying to capture this unique feature of this park.
I just could not get a photo really showing them the way I wanted but it is probably the most unique feature of the stadium a other wise it is a very basic design of 70’s architecture. It does have a mostly open concourse like Coors. In left field they do have the Royals Hall of Fame and around the stadium the do have a few things to do with the Royals history. Also the have 3 statues on the concourse one is of the Kauffman’s, the second Frank White and the third Geaorge Brett.
Shields pitching to Cory Dickerson in the 6th inning. Cory would strike out. Tulo would also strike out for the second out of the inning and Shields’ 1500 strike out of his career. He would also get 1501 in the inning striking out Cargo to end the inning.
Tommy Kahnle warming up in the bullpen in the 6th inning.
Kahnle came into pitch for Marales in the bottom of the 6th. Morales Pitched 5 innings, allowing 4 runs, 8 hits, 2 homeruns and walked 4 and lets just say Shields had more strike out in 1 at bat then Morales did all 5 innings! Kahnle would pitch a full 2 innings only allowing 1 runner a walk to Billy Butler in the 7th.
After 7 complete innings Shield was taken out of the game. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits striking out 8 Rockies batters. Wade Davis replaced him in the 8th. The Royals scored a 5th run in the 8th inning and taking a 5-1 lead. The run came on a Escobar fielder choice scoring Pedro Ciriaco.
Nolan Arenado argues the called strike out to end the game. The Umpire did have the most consistent strike zone this game and it looked very frustrating to the batters. The Royals pitching was very good but I think there should of been a few less called strike 3’s for them but when you are pitching well it shows you will get the call. But when Guys who are batting well over .300 and pretty much seeing beach balls being pitched it is hard to believe the are not seeing the ball well or not swinging at good pitches.
Well that is it for this one beside the score it was a good day at the ballpark.
Got another one from the K and then back to Coors on Friday night.
Rangers vs. Rockies
Game 2of series
My 17th at Coors this year
Another bad batting practice today. Did have a few by me and one knocked out of my glove by a bare hand idiot. This is just something that drives me crazy because you rarely see them actually catch the ball and usually it deflects off there hand and hits someone else. This guy did end up with the ball because after he smacked at it bounce a row behind me and 2 behind him, I duck once it got deflected and he dove over the seats. It was not a bad day for autographs a bunch of guys signed and I got a Brandon Barnes card signed.
Juan Nicasio was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. he got the first 2 rangers batters out and then gave up a 1 run home run to Andre Beltre to give the Rangers a 1 run lead.
The first out of the game was a ground out by Chin Soo Choo to Charlie Culberson who made the start at second.
Prince Fielder struck out to end the inning.
Robbie Ross Jr. Started for the Rangers.
Charlie Blackmon hit a lead off home run for the Rockies to tie the game in the first.
Tulowitzki would get hit by this pitch to get on base. Carlos Gonzalez would hit a single top get Tulo to third.
Nolan Arenado was looking to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. This streak dates back to the White Sox series during the first home stand of the year.
This at bat he flew out to right field and Tulo scored from 3rd. to give the Rockies a 2-1 lead.
Juan Nicasio kept the Rockies in the game and pitched well. He did pitch till the 5th inning and had thrown 88 pitches in 5 complete innings. Which is over 17 pitches per inning. He control was the issue he only gave up 2 hits. He did walk 5 batters and only struck out 1 batter. The Rangers did only get 1 run on the Beltre homer in the 1st.
The Rockies did get a single run in both the 3rd and 5th inning. Drew Stubs lead off the 3rd with a single and scored on a Cargo single. It was his second hit of the game. The 5th inning run was also started with a Stubbs hit this time a double and scored single by Cargo to give the Rockies a 4-1 lead. This was Cargo’s 3rd hit of the game.
The Rockies bats really came alive in the 6th not that they were not hitting the first 5 innings, but in the 6th 7 of the 9 Rockies in the line up had a hit and most also had an RBI or scored.
Brandon Barnes was the first base runner of the inning. He hit a single and advanced to second on a error at first base.
Charlie Blackmon hit a double scoring him for the Rockies first run of the inning. Drew Stubbs got the second out of the inning a ground out to third then the hits really started coming Tulo hit a double followed by a single by Cargo. Nolan Arenado was walked, Justin Morneau, Charlie Culberson, Jordan Pacheco hit a single his second at bat and the runs kept coming with the men on base. Barnes hit a single his second trip to the plate. In total they had 8 hits and scored 6 runs. The Rockies had a 10-1 lead.
Drew Stubbs decided that 9 run lead wasn’t enough in the 7th and hit a lead off home run. Cargo hit his 5th hit of the game a ground rule double of the fence in left center.
Followed by a Arenado double to score the 1212 Rockies run of the game and extend his hitting streak to 26 games.
Arenado rounding first heading to second as Choo gets the ball in the left field corner.
Matt Belisle came in and pitched the Rockies, he gave up 2 hits and walked Elvis Andrus to load the bases. Both hits and walk came with 2 outs, He got out of the inning when Josh Wilson grounded out.
In an interesting twist the Rangers used Mitch Moreland to pitch he is and infielder and has been the DH this year for them. he was probly the best pitcher for the rangers all game he had the first 1,2,3 inning of the game in the 8th inning. This is a look of the second pitch he threw to Jordan Pacheco.
Andre Beltre sends one deep to center with 2 outs in the 9th inning.
That ball was caught be Drew Stubbs to end the game and the Rockies won the game 12-1 and the home stand with a 5-1 record.
Here are just some batting #’s :
Cargo went 5 for 5, 3 RBI’s
Tulo 2 for 4 and was hit by a pitch, 1 RBI
Stubbs 3 for 4 a triple away from the cycle, 1 RBI
Pacheco 2 for 4 with a walk, 1 RBI
Barnes 2 for 2 in the 6th inning as a pinch hitter
What a great home stand for them these bats are just on fire and pitching is keeping them in the game. I think Blake Doyle may be a big factor in the batting, because he is a teacher and was not a player who hit well. After 4 batting coaches over the last few years I think he has really helped in getting the team as a whole batting so well. It is exciting to watch this team play again and you never know who will be the guy who gets the hit in the clutch or get things going not just relying on the middle of the order. From Charlie Blackmon leading off with big hits to the bottom 3rd of the order getting things done as well.
Marc Stout interviewing Cargo after the game.
That is it for this one the Rockies are playing the next 2 in Texas before heading to Cincinnati for 3 this weekend and then to Kansas City for 2 that I will be at.
So see you at Kaufman!!!!!
Mini road trip!
Mets vs. Rockies
Game 3 of series
My 15th Coors Game of the year.
Before the game Justin Mornea was awarded his watch for being the National League player of the week.
It was presented to him by the Rockies Hitting Coach Blake Doyle.
He was the second Rockies to get it this month, Charlie Blackmon won the earlier in the month of April.
Franklin Morales was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. He started the game with Juan Lagares flying out to left field. Then things started to get real ugly for him and the Rockies. Daniel Murphy hit a triple followed by a David Wright double, he walked Chris Young. By the time he got out of the first inning he faced 7 Mets batters and they scored 3 runs.
Jenrry Mejia started for the Mets he struck out Charlie Blackmon to start the inning. He then walked Drew Stubbs and Carlos Gonzalez flew out, Stubbs made a interesting third out and that was he ran to and past 2nd base on the Cargo fly out and after the catch by Chris Young in left field he ran back to first but was said that he never stepped back on second before returning to first and was doubled up at first base.
Neither the Mets or Rockies scored in the 2nd and both did not have a base runner. The Mets kept scoring in the 3rd. David Wright got his second hit of the game a single and then stole second base. Curtis Granderson hit a single followed by a Anthony Recker double his second hit of the game. The Mets got an additional 3 runs and had a 6 run lead.
They kept that 6 run lead till the 5th inning when the Rockies fought back with a huge inning lead by a Ryan Wheeler solo home run to start the inning.
After a series of single and walks Nolan Arenado came to the plate with bases loaded and proceeded to hit his 2nd Grand Slam of his career to give the Rockies a 8-6 lead. After Arenado’s homer the Mets replaced Meija with Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Arenado celebrates at home-plate with his teammates that were on base when he hit his home run.
In the 6th inning the Mets would score 2 runs with Chris Martin on the mound. Martin was replace with Rex Brothers after the first run scored on a Chris Young double. Rex gave up a single to Curtis Granderson to Score Young. The score was now 8-8.
The Rockies took the lead in the 7th inning on a Jordan Pacheco sac fly to center field and Tulo scored from third. Tulo got on base in the 7th with a single and it was his 1,000 hit of his career. So congrats to him. Even know I am not the biggest Tulo fan I do have to give credit when credit is due! This year he seems to finally be hitting timely and is performing the way the regular fans had expected him too for the last few years. This is probably the best start to the season he has in the past 3 or 4 years now lets hope he stays healthy and keeps it up before he gets traded to the Yankees!! Had to get a dig in somehow! The Rockies had a 9-8 lead at the end of the 7th.
on the same play Tulo scored on Corey Dickerson advanced to second in a close play after tagging up at first.
The Mets would tie the game in the 8th at 9 and take a 10-9 lead in the bottom of the 9th.
Then with Tulo on second after getting on base after his 1,001 hit of his career, Charley Culberson and his .111 batting avg. came in to pinch hit for the pitcher La Troy Hawkins. On the 1-2 count he took a 96 mph fast ball thrown by the Mets pitcher Kyle Farnsworth for a 2 run walk off home run it was awesome to see Charley come through with this huge homer for his first of the year. He was brought back up to the Rockies from the Springs because of Michael Cuddyer going on the disabled list. He was originally sent back to the Springs because he was not hitting for the first month of the season.
Charlie (Chuck Cobra) runs the base as the Coors crowd goes absolutely crazy after his home run.
I filled my card while he ran the bases and missed him stepping on home but got him as he came back to the 1st base side. Celebrating with Michael Cuddyer. La Troy Hawkins picks him up and carried him towards the dugout after getting him the win!
What a incredible game that looked like it was going to be a rough lose early and in true Coors fashion and the fight that this team has this year they won it 11-10.
What a great night of baseball
Tomorrow the Rockies will be facing the Mets for the 4th time and Jhoulys Chacin will make his 2014 debut as he come off the disabled list and the Rockies go for the series sweep. Unfortunately I will not be at this game because of scheduling issues at work and this will be the first Sunday game I have missed while in town in over 3 years. I do miss a Sunday game while on my road trip in the summer.
So that is it for this game.
I will be back at Coors for the 2 games Monday and Tuesday when the Texas Rangers are in town.
See you at Coors!!!
Mets vs. Rockies
My 14th Coors game of the year.
Today was another bust for me at batting practice just not doing well this year what stinks is I usually do well during Mets batting practices. Before the game I bought a Corey Dickerson bat that was broken in L.A. on April 25th by a pitch thrown by the Dodgers Jamie Wright.
He was he because this is his last year as commissioner and he is doing a farewell tour of the parks. After he did a on field appearance and photo ops. He with Dick Monfort headed down the tunnel behind the dugout so a few of us headed over there and he stopped and signed.
Jorge De La Rosa was the starter for the Rockies He gave up a lead off double to Juan Lagares who scored 2 batters later on a David Wright single. The Mets had a 1-0 lead.
Lagares’s lead off double.
Daniel Murphy’s first inning running error running to third before Jorge was in his wind up and got out at third for the first out of the inning !
Corey Dickerson making his best Cargo impersonation with this great catch to get Chris Young out in the first inning.
Zach Wheeler was the starting pitcher for the Mets. I have actually been waiting to see him pitch in person for about 2 years and this outing was not worth the wait. Charlie Blackmon lead off with a single followed by a walk by Nolan Arenado and a Tulo single.
Here is Charlis Blackmon running home on the Tulo single to tie the game at 1.
Tulo high five eric Young at first base after his RBI single. It is nice to see Tulo hitting and playing the way we have been expecting him to for the last few years.
Zack Wheeler came inside on Corey Dickerson during his 1st inning at bat. The Rockies would score 4 in the inning.
The Rockies went on and scored 2 more runs in the second and 1 in the fourth. wheeler was removed from the game after the 4th he gave up 7 hits and 7 runs. Only striking out 1 and that was Arenado to end the 4th. Jeurys Familia pitched the 5th and Ex Rockie Carlos Torres came into pitch the 6th and 7th for the Mets.
Chris Martin made his Coors debut in the 7th. the Mets did score 2 runs in the 6th. Curtis Granderson hit a 2 run home run. Rox still had a 8-3 lead.
The Rockies scored 3 in the 7th the first a lead off solo home run by Charlie Blackmon the next 2 on a series of single by Arenado, Tulo and Morneau. With his hit in the 7th Arenado has a 22 game hitting streak.
Daniel Murphy takes a swing that was hit to the pitcher tommy Kahnle.
He took it to the bag himself and that ended the game and the Rockies won 10-3 for the second win of the series.
The Rockies celebrate the win and Charlie Blackmon once again was player of the game with his 3 for 5 night with 2 RBI’s and scored 3 times.
That is it for this game and the Rockies are now 10-4 at home this year. and are 1 game behind the Giants and a half behind the Dodgers in 3rd place.
So after the game I went to the players entrance and had Keith Hernandez sign a copy of his book and also a Shea Stadium baseball so it was a very good day at the ballpark for autographs.
That is it see you at Coors.
N.Y. Mets vs. Colorado Rockies
My 13th game at Coors this year.
Did not do to well at batting practice today the Rockies did not take BP and the Mets was O.K. but I was never in the right place at the right time always seemed I was a section off all day!.
During BP Geoff told me he may have an extra ticket behind the Mets dugout, which was very cool of him. Many of you may remember that I was originally from N.Y. and grew up a Mets fan so that was awesome.
The morning before the game I had to make the decision do I want to wear my normal Rockies stuff or my Mets stuff it was a tough decision but I went with my usual Rockies stuff, usually I will wear a Mets hat with my Rockies Jersey. I wish I had grabbed my Mets stuff just because of the seats! He was wearing his and got Bartolo Colons warm up ball and a gamer from Ruben Tejada hit by Justin Morneau in the 3rd.
Juan Nicasio was the starting pitcher for the Rockies the first batter he faced was Juan Lagares the Mets center fielder started the game with a double and it looked like Nicasio was in trouble early, But after Daniel Murphy lined out to Nolan Arenado at third David Wright lined out to Troy Tulowitzki at short and Lagares was caught off the bag at second for a double play. Nicasio got out of the inning with 11 pitches.
Bartolo Colon was the starting pitcher for the Mets. He got Charlie Blackmon to fly out to left and then struck out Arenado. He did not have great stuff to the first 2 batters but got them out then Carlos Gonzalez came up and took a 90 MPH to right center for a solo home run and a Rockies 1-0 lead. Tulo would end the inning flying out to left.
Hey look David Wright at third base.
Lucas Duda started the inning with a out and Chris Young hit a single. Here is Curtis Granderson batting in the 2nd inning after Youngs single.
Juan Nicasio pitching with Chris Young on base. Young did steal second but did not score and Nicasio got out of the inning.
Corey Dickerson taking a swing right before his 2 out single.
Charlie Culberson would also hit a single and Nicasio would hit a single.
Dickerson and Culberson both scored on the single. It was a very good hit down the right field line that may have been a double for a position player instead of a very long single. above he is giving Eric Young five after the 2 RBI single to give the Rox a 3-0 lead.
Nicasio pitched another very good inning in the 3rd and the Rockies did not score in the 3rd either.
Which was thrown past second baseman Daniel Murphy into right field.
Culberson was then hit by a pitch.to load the bases.
Juan Nicasio would get his third RBI of the night on a sac-fly to center.
Scoring Rosario from third! The Rockies extended their lead 4-0.
Charlie Blackmon would hit a single to score Dickerson and Culberson for a 6-0 Rockies lead.
Culberson stepping on the plate for the 3rd run of the inning. It looks like he may have been out but I am not saying anything!!!!
Nicasio kept the Mets batters to a minimum in the 5th and the Rockies picked up another run Justin Morneau got on base with a single.
He would score on a Dickerson triple. he is being waved around by Stu Coles at third for the 7th run for the Rockies.
Bartolo Colon was taken out of the game after the triple and was replaced by Jeurys Familia. Colon gave up 10 hits 7 runs, he did strike out 3 and walked 1 in his 4.2 innings on the mound and can’t forget the hit batter Culberson in the 4th.
Eric Young Jr. pinch hit in the 6th for the Mets this is the first time I have seen him play for the Mets. Last year when the Mets came for the make up game I was in N.Y. and missed the game at Coors.
Juan Nicasio did walk hime and here he is turning around at second on a Lagares fly ball to right field which was caught by Brandon Barnes who came into the game in the 5th for Cargo. Blackmon moved to center from right and Dickerson moved from center to left.
Juan Nicasio pitched a full 7 inning and Chad Bettis came in for the 8th inning. Nicasio besides going 1 for 2 at the plate with 3 RBI’s he pitched a pretty good game also! Not giving up any runs on 3 hits striking out 3 and kept his pitch count very good for him 95 pitches in 7 innings. Bettis after getting 2 quick outs in the 8th walked Bobby Abreu. Who scored on a Juan Lagarase double. 7-1 Rox
Jose Valverde pitched the 8th inning for the Mets.
You know you have a good lead in the 8th when the relief pitcher is batting in his spot with 2 outs! He did strike out and came back out to pitch the 9th.
After another inning of 2 quick outs Chad Bettis gave up a single to Chris Young and then another to Curtis Granderson. Travis d’Arnaud then hit a 3 run home run the Rockies still had a 7-4 lead.
d’Arnaud passing Mets 3rd base coach Tim Teuful after his 9th inning 3 run home run.
Ruben Tejada flew out to Barnes in right to end the game with the Rockies winning with the 7-4 score. This was a great game by Nicasio and was awesome to sit behind the Mets dugout. Thanks again Geoff.
After the game I headed to the players entrance and got to say hey to The Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez and got Tim Teuful to sign a card for me. He was a really nice guy and it was cool meeting another player that played on the 1986 World series team for the Mets.
I will be at Coors for the remainder of the series and home stand see you at Coors!
Giants vs. Rockies
My 12th of the year.
Today was 9 News science and weather day. It was before the game and School kids from all over Colorado came to Coors for this event and the game. Which caused a mess of buses in Lodo and an overall pain in the butt getting around.
Basically they do experiment’s where they blow stuff up and send stuff in the air. Which I never know what they are talking about because you can not hear what the speakers are talking about because of the chatter of the kids.
I then went over to the Giants side of the field.
Javier Lopez a former Rocky signed and stopped and chatted for a few minutes after he did his morning warm ups.
After Science and weather day was over I headed back to the first base side and Charlie Blackmon signed. I also got Michael Cuddyer on my team project and am really making progress on it. I also got a Boone Logan card signed and almost got EY.
It was then time for baseball.
Tyler Chatwood was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. He got the Giants out in order in the inning.
As he does every game Eric Young gave the crowd a high five. Including me as I tried to get this shot!
Matt Cain was the starting pitcher for the Giants.
Charley Blackmon started the game how he has started many this year with a base hit.
Troy Tulowitzki hit a home run to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead. Another timely home run for Tulo! This was impressive because it was with a runner on and gave the Rockies the lead in the game.
Michael Morse decided that the Rockies 2 run lead needed to be shortened to a 1 run lead when he hit a solo homer in the 2nd inning.
Brandon Barnes makes a turn at second on a D.J. LeMahieu single in the second. He lead off the inning with a single. He stayed at second on this hit but it was a great shot of showing his hustle.
Tyler Chatwood contributed with a single and D.J. came over from second to shake his hand during a coaches visit to the mound for the Giants.
with bases loaded guess what Charley Blackmon did? He got hit that scored Barnes from third.
And beat out a double play that got Chatwood out at second and advanced D.J. to third. 3-1 Rockies. D.J. scored on a error throw over to first and Charlie scored on a Tulo single and the Rockies had a 5-1 lead.
Unfortunately the Giants tied the game in the 3rd with 4 runs of their own. Brandon Hicks lead the inning off with a solo home run and Michael Morse hit his 2nd a 3 run home run. 5-5
After Chatwood struck out Hicks in the 4th Bruce Bochi argued the strike and was tossed form the game.
In The 4th inning Charlie Blackmon hit his 5th home run of the season to give the Rockies a 1 run lead 6-5. The Rockies held the lead till the 7th inning when the Giants took a 7-6 lead on a Brandon Belt 2 run home run.
Rex Brothers pitched the 7th for the Rockies. He walked Hunter Pence before giving up the Belt home run.
The Rockies tied up the game once again in the 7th after Charlie Blackmon walked to lead off the inning he scored on a Nolan Arenado double. (7-7)
Brandon Barnes grounded out to end the 7th inning.
The Giants and the Rockies both scored a run in the 8th a solo home run by Hector Sanchez for the Giants and the Rockies when the LeMahieu scored on a Charlie Blackmon ground out. LeMahieu lead- off the inning with a single.
The Game remained tied at 8 and went into extra innings. Here is Brandon Crawford heading back to first on a throw over from Boone Logan who pitched the 10th for the Rockies.
Chad Bettis pitched the 11th for the Rockies and really struggled in the inning. He gave up a lead off single to Hunter Pence and then walked Brandon Belt. After getting Juan Perez out (he replaced Morse in the 7th) he intentionally walked Juaquin Arias ( came in for Pablo Sandoval in 7th) Hector Sanchez hit his second home run of the game a 4 run grand slam to give the Giants a 12-8 lead.
With the Giants closure on the mound Sergio Romo Tulo lead off with a single and Justin Morneau hit a 2 run home run the Giants still had a 12-10 led. Drew Stubbs ( replaced Corey Dickerson in the 7th) hit a single and remained on base and the Rockies lost this one 12-10 in a total Coors Field game there where a total of 9 home runs, 22 runs and 30 hits. The Rockies offence was great as it has been all year Tyler Chatwood went 6 innings giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, he walked 4 struck out 5 and gave up 3 home runs. Cain went 6 giving up 7 runs on 10 hits striking out 4 and gave up 2 home runs. That is a total of 5 home runs from the starters.
So that is it for this game the Rockies had another good home stand going 4-2 once again. The should have had one sweep this series and just let the 3rd game in each series get away. The Rockies are now 12 and 11 this year and in 3rd place 1.5 games bach from the first place Dodgers who the face for the first time this year. They will be heading to L.A. and Arizona on this road trip before coming home on May 1 to play the Mets and the Rangers the next home stand I should be there for the whole series.
See you at Coors!!
S.F. Giants vs. Rockies
My 10th of the year at Coors
Gonna make this one short. I was debating not doing a post for this game. But well I was there and I got some photos.
This was the first time Wilin Rosario caught for Jorge De La Rosa since the Opening Day melt down in Miami.
Jorge was the starting pitcher for the Rockies he threw a lot of pitches in the 1st inning but kept the Giants from scoring. He threw 27 pitches 10 to lead off batter Angel Pagan.
Ryan Vogelsong was the pitcher for the 1st inning for the Giants! O.K. he was the starter but he was gone in the second. The Rockies scored 4 in the 1st. Nolan Arenado and Wilin Rosario both hit homers Arenado a solo shot and Rosario a 3 runs shot. Blackmon hit one in the second to start the inning. The Rockies had a 5-1 lead when Vogelsong left the game.
David Huff pitched the rest of the 2nd and Yusmeiro Petit 3rd through 7th. Huff came out with a leg injury after the 2nd.
The Rockies would get 2 more runs in the 3rd inning on a Corey Dickerson homer and this is D.J. LeMahieu walking into second with a double after the homer. He was left on base.
Jorge pitched 5 full innings. He gave up 5 hits 1 run, he did walk 3 and struck out 5. His pitch count was at over 100 pitches in the 5 innings. The 1 run against Jorge was a on a Posey ground out scoring David Huff who lead off the inning with a single.
Tommy Kahnle did pitch the 6th and 7th for the Rockies he struck out 3 in the 6th and the first batter Crawford in the 7th for 4 strike outs in a row and it was 5 for the Rockies going back to Michael Morse striking out against Jorge in the 5th.
He also struck out Pagan in the 7th and Pagan did not like the call he was ejected immediately and this and the next photo was after getting tossed.
Hunter Pence pulls Pagan away from home-plate Umpire John Tumpane as Bruce Bochy heads out of the dugout and Umpire Crew chief Bob Davidson heads over from first.
They say the 27th out ids the hardest and this game was no exception with Brandon Belt on third, Gregor Blanco hit back to Chad Bettis who tossed it to Justin Morneau at first.
Morneau dropped it and Belt scored and Blanco reached the 27th out was made by the next batter Hector Sanchez and the game was over and the Rockies won 8-2.
Charlis Blackmon hit his second homer of the game in the 8th and Corey Dickerson who hit a homer and was 3 for and a triple away from the cycle with 2 RBI’s.
That is it for this one.
I will be back for the next 2 against the Giants.
See You at Coors.
