We don’t need no stinkin’ starters!

8-15-2014

Reds vs. Rockies

Game 2 of series

I have know clue how many games this is for me!

IMG_7718

So once again because of the perfectly timed storm there was no batting practice once again!

IMG_7724

No this is not the 4th inning of another bad start for the Rockies starters Matt Belisle got the start for the Rockies for this game because Franklin Morales was suppose to start but could not because of his wife expecting a baby. Belisle started a little shaky but settled down after the first 2 batters he faced hit single he did get out of the inning and the Reds remained scoreless till the 3rd inning.

IMG_7729

Johnny Cueto started for the Reds.

IMG_7733

Charlie Blackmon got on base after the ball that got passed first baseman Jack Hannahan

The Rockies did not score in the first inning but did get a run in the 2nd a solo home run by Nolan Arenado. The Reds got their first run in the 3rd Johnny Cuerto lead off the inning with a single and then scored on a Jay Bruce sac ground out to tie the game 1-1

The second inning saw the Reds get there second run and the Rockies would than again tie the  game in the 6th. In the 6th Justin Morneau started the inning with a walk and scored on a Corey Dickerson double.

If you did not notice I did not take many photos this game!  There was not much going on and because of a elbow that has been giving me trouble since before my road trip is making hard to hold a camera for an extended amount of time. I am not really sure how I got through a couple of games during my trip it was that bad. I think I may be day today after this weekend!!!

Back to baseball the Reds scored a third run in the 9th inning and got the 3-2 win. O.K. the bull pen did not do that bad this game but the Rockies still lost. Ottavino took the lose and Cueto who pitched 8 innings got the win. He threw 106 pitches in the eight innings he pitched. Belise went 3 innings throwing 49 pitches, giving up 4 hits and 1 run, striking out and walking 1. The Rockies did use 6 pitchers in this game Nick Masset pitched the 4th and 5th. Nicasio the 6th, Brothers the 7th Boone Logan and Adam Ottavino the 8th and Ottavino continued till the 9th.

So that is it for this brief game.

IMG_7746

There was a really great sunset during this game and I did manage to take a few photos of it!

That is it for this one!

Road whoa’s follow Rockies back to Coors!

6-3-2014

Arizona Diamondbacks Vs. Colorado Rockies

My 24th’ish game at Coors actually 23 and 2/3rds considering the last Giants game needs to be continued and is tied at 2 in the 6th.

This is the first game back at Coors in a week and a half. After a very poor road trip so we were looking for something good to lift the team moral being at home. They were 2-7 on the road this last trip that brought them to Atlanta, Philly and Cleveland.

Today at batting practice was not too bad for me I got 2 baseballs one that was hit by Cuddy and I got after it bounced around the concourse and a vendor picked it up and tossed it to me. The second was a Easter Egg, I was heading over by the third base dugout and as I was walking over there a good 5 to 10 minutes after the rest of the stadium opened and it was sitting in the middle of an isle. So that brings my total for the year to 10 baseballs. 8 at Coors, 2 at Kaufman. Not the best year so far for getting baseballs. Considering the amount of batting practices I have attended this season.

Today I had a different view I sat in the front row of the pavilions which I have done before but not recently.

IMG_5216

Jorge De La Rosa was the staring pitcher for the Rockies for this game it was by far not his best start of the season he immediately started the game by walking the Diamondbacks first batter Gerardo Parra on 4 pitches. Aaron Hill followed up with a single. After a line out to Charlie Culberson at third by Martin Prado Miguel Montero popped out and Cody Ross  hit into a force out getting Hill out at second it was a rough inning but he did get out of it.

Chase Anderson started for the Diamondbacks he also started the game with a walk to Charlie Blackmon. Michael Cuddyer flew out to left field and Justin Morneau would hit a ground ball that got past the infield but it looked like Blackmon thought the ball was caught by the Diamondback’s second baseman  and he did not run to second, the ball then was thrown in from the outfield and he was out at second for the second out of the inning.

IMG_5233

The out at second.
IMG_5238With one out in the second the D’backs got their first hit of the game a triple hit by Chris Owings that was hit to the gap between Carlos Gonzalez in left and Blackmon in center. Owings was tagged out at home on a hit by Ender Inciarte for the second out of the inning.

IMG_5246

Charlie Culberson came up in the 2nd inning for the Rockies and hit a triple with Wilin Rosario on first.

IMG_5253

Wilin appeared to score the Rockies first run of the game.

IMG_5259

The call was overturned and he was called out at home it appeared that Montero tagged him before he had touched home. That was the second out of the inning. Culberson as left on base and the game was scoreless after 2.

The scoreless part remained till the 4th inning when the D’backs scored 3 on 2 solo home runs 1 by Nick Evans and Chris Owings. Ender Inciarte hit a single with no outs and would advance and score before the inning was over.

The Rockies would get their first run in the game in the 5th when D.J. LeMahieu hit a solo home run which was about a half section and 10 rows up from where I was sitting. 3-1 D’backs.

IMG_5281

Corey Dickerson came into the game for Carlos Gonzalez in the 6th inning.

IMG_5286

After Jorge pitched a complete 7 inning, Rex Brother came into pitch the 8th inning. He would give up 2 hits both a doubles the first to David Peralta  and the second 2 batters later to Chris Owings to score Peralta. 4-1 D’backs. Chris Owings was a single short of hitting the cycle. Peralta replaced Ross in left in the 7th. Jorge gave up 7 hits and 3 runs walking 3 and had no strike outs. He threw 99 pitches. Later in the game he seemed to get things together and kept his pitch count O.K. I would have liked to see him come out and pitch the 8th. But he was replaced in the 7th offensively, but I think even if his at bat did not come up he was coming out of the game.

IMG_5291

La Troy Hawkins pitched the 9th for the Rockies and had a very quick 1,2,3 inning but then again any 1,2,3 inning for him is very quick. He did it on 11 pitches usually that is the amount of pitchers he throws to one batter! O.k. maybe not but he does run very high pitch counts for a closer throwing 1 inning. I have seen many high 20 pitch count innings and remember a 35 pitch inning and he still got the save in that one.

IMG_5297

Tulo throws to Justin Morneau at first to get Aaron Hill out to end the 9th.

The Rockies came up in the 9th and Tulo hit his lead off solo home run to bring the score to 4-2 D’backs Corey Dickerson would hit a single and remain on base.

IMG_5304

The game ended with a strike out looking by D.J. LeMahieu who was not happy about the strike call and argued the strike call but the game was over and that was it. The Rockies fall for the 5th straight game and are now 28-29 1 game below .500 and 8.5 games behind the Giants and are now in 3rd place in the N.L. West.

I will be at Coors most of this home stand I know I will be late to Thursday’s game and not sure if I will bring camera to a few games. just want to travel light for a few!

I am also starting to put together my plan for the 2014 Road Trip which will be From the All-Star break till the first week in Aug. I will be hit up some of the perennial favorite spots and getting in many places I have not been before including 2 MLB parks and the New Charlotte ballpark. More info to come in the next few weeks.

See You at Coors.

The first 2 against the Padres: Pitching Battles and baffles.

5-16/17-2014

San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies

My 18th and 19th games of the season

IMG_4328

Due took lake of photos and time I am doing a combined post for these 2 games against the Padres.

The first was a pitching battle Between Rockies Starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa and the Padres and former Rockies Eric Stultz.

IMG_4215

Jorge De La Rosa throwing the first pitch to the Padres Chris Denorfia. Who he struck out after Evereth Cabrera ground out he would also strike out Chase Headley.

IMG_4228

Eric Stulzs the did start to bad either he got Charlie Blackmon to ground out, Drew Stubbs struck out and Troy Tulowitzki flew out to right field.

IMG_4233

After 3 complete hitless inning for both the Rockies and the Padres Stubbs got a ball down the 3rd base line for a double to break up the No-No for Stultz. The Padres did have 2 base runners in the 2nd Carlos Quentin walked and he got out at second on a Cameron Maybin hit ball which was a fielder choice and Maybin got on first. He would make the third out after a bad jump on a stolen base attempt and end the inning.

IMG_4235

Stubbs making the turn at first with Eric Young giving him the O.K. to head to second.

IMG_4252

Jorge continued to pitch very well in the 4th still facing the minimum amount of batter to this point 12 up 12 down not with out a base runner but with no hits. The Rockies put together a few hits in the 5th and Jorge got on base because of a Jedd Gyorko error scoring Jordan Pacheco from third to contribute to his cause and get the Rockies on the board 1-0. He did hurt his leg a little running out the play but was O.K. and remained in the game.

IMG_4270

Jorge continued is reign over the Padres through 6 innings. Bud Black removed Stultz in the 7th after Blackmon hit a single scoring D.J. LeMahieu. 2-0 Rockies.

IMG_4274

Nick Vincent came in for the Padres instead of throwing a pitch is first throw was to first base.

IMG_4276

Yonder Alfonso missed the ball and the ball bounced around in foul territory and Blackmon advanced to second.

IMG_4284

Denorfia broke up Jorge’s No-No in the 7th with a double. That was the only hit that Jorge would give up till a single by Todd Hundley in the 8th and he was then removed from the game by Walt Weiss.

IMG_4293

After arguing a strike 3 call in the 8th someone missed his first half inning of the year. Nolan Arenado was tossed from the game.

IMG_4309

LaTroy Hawkins came into the game in the 9th with a slight bit of drama Denorfia started the inning with his 2nd double of the game and only the third hit for the Padres of the game. He later scored Headley single but the Rockies still had a 3-1 lead the third run was in the 8th. tulo scored after a lead off single.

IMG_4311

Cameron Maybin strikes out to end the game and the Rockies won 3-1. What a great game to watch if you are into great pitching and a low amount of hits which does cut down on action and photos because well how many shots can you get of the pitcher pitching!

Now the second game of the series was not as great from the pitching side of things.

IMG_4336

Jordan Lyles started for the Rockies and started with a 5-0 record for the year and has pretty much been the Rockies best starter this year. The Padres decide to prove other wise after a strike out to Denorfia he walked Cabrera and Seth Smith who started for the Padres today in right field. The second out was also a strike out this one to Headley but Alfonso hit a double scoreing both of the walk recipients and giving the Padres a 2-0 lead. The first half inning was played with a pretty good rain coming down.

IMG_4347

It cleared up in the bottom of the 1st and Robbie Erlin started the game for the Padres Charlie Blackmon started the inning with a typical Charlie Blackmon lead off a single with a head first dive into first base. He would get doubled up at second on a Stubbs hit. Then Tulo hit a solo home run to get the Rockies on the board 2-1 Padres.

Now this game I was just extremely tired and did not photograph too much only taking 65 photos all game and considering most of them were the 5 or 6 of each pitcher who started it really was not that many. The Padres continued the 2 run trend in the 2nd and 3rd inning to give themselves a 6-1 lead. Lyles only pitched 3 1/3rd innings giving up 6 runs on 5 hits. Walking 6 striking out 3. he just did not have his stuff tonight and could not find the strike zone. This is what really baffled me because he has been such a consistent and effective pitcher at home and on the road. Patrick Saunders from the post did tweet during the game that Lyles kept looking at his fingers so I wonder if it was a bad grip due to a blister or something to that extent.

The bullpen did do a pretty good job the remainder of the game Chris Martin who pitched the 7th inning for the Rockies did give up a 2 run home run to pinch hitter Carlos Quinten. But Tommy Kahnle finished the 4th and pitched the complete 5th. Matt Belisle pitched the 6th.

IMG_4367

Bud Black removed starter Erlin in the 6th and once again went with Nick Vincent.

The Rockies did get a run in the 4th and 5th off Erlin. Stubbs lead off the 4th with a single and scored on a Carlos Gonzalez sac fly and Justin Morneau after a lead off double scored a Pacheco single in the 5th. After 5 it was 6-3 Padres.

IMG_4373

The Rockies scored 2 more in the 6th on a Gonzalez double scoring Stubbs and Tulo to bring the game within 1 run. The Padres still had a 6-5 lead.

Remember the 2 run home run given up by Martin in the 8th well that gave the Padres a 8-5 lead and that was also the final score.

IMG_4387

The Padres won this one and the series is split 1-1 with 1 more to go on Sunday!

That is it for these 2 I will be at Coors Sunday as well see you there Go Rockies!

Rockies K at The K!

5-14-2014

Rockies At Royals

Game 2 of series

The morning before this game we headed to the stadium a little early because I did not want to be there to early because it was going to be a long day to begin with since we were heading back to Denver after the game. So as we are walking up to the stadium we notice the team bus coming down the road and we ran over to the place where it drops off the players. As the players got off the bus and Troy Tulowitzki stopped and signed and with that I finished my 2014 16×20 team project! Except for Lach but I am not worried about that!

We headed into the stadium early and walked around while they were doing the Science and Weather day at the K. After it finished it ended and they then cleared the stadium and we had to exit and then re-enter.

IMG_3785

IMG_2308

after we headed into the stadium a bunch of pitches were warming up so we waited for them to get done and a few signed. above is Chris Martin throwing.

IMG_2316

LaTroy Hawkins throwing to Matt Belisle.

So I was able to get a 8×10 signed by Jordan Lyles, LaTroy Hawkins and Juan Nicasio.

So that was a total of 6 8×10’s signed during the trip and 4 guys on my team project.

Since I didn’t have much to be signed we decided to head to the Royals Hall of Fame. I took a few photos while in there.

IMG_3786

Alex Gordon’s gold glove from 2012 he has 2 Gold Gloves.

IMG_3794

In a display with give always  from games, they had a t-shirt replicating the pine tar marks on George Brett’s jersey.

IMG_3796

The Statue of Liberty from the all start game in NY in 2008.

IMG_3798They also had a MLB Hall of Fame area this is a Roger Hornsby Cleat. They also had Christy Mathews and Casey Stengel hat. Ty Cobb Jersey, a George Brett jersey and other bats, jerseys and cleats from many different H.O.F inductees.

IMG_3827

The had an area all about the baseball and they had many different types of examples of baseball used through the history o the game and had this giant diagram of the inside of a current MLB baseball.

IMG_3835

This is a display of Just Gold Gloves won by  former Royals second baseman Frank White.

IMG_3837

This was a big display in the #5 in baseballs and had George Brett’s bat and the ball from his 3000th hit.

IMG_3848

The Royals 1985 World Series Trophy

IMG_3861

After the Hall of Fame we walked the concourse checked out the statues the have. This was a Frank white statue.

IMG_3879Manager Dick Howser

IMG_3881George Brett.

They also had one of the  Ewing Kauffman and his wife who was the owner of the Royals. He is the person responsible for the return of baseball in K.C. and was also inducted into the National Baseball H.O.F. in 2008

IMG_3897

It was then close to game time and we headed to our seats for this game we were 8 rows behind the Rockies dugout so as Jhoulys Chacin, Mike McKenry and Jim Wright headed in to the dugout I said Good Luck to Jhoulys and he tossed me his warm up ball.

IMG_20140514_131050

What was really cool is that it was a 20th anniversary ball that the Rockies used for games last year.

IMG_3908

Jason Vargas was the starting pitcher for the Royals this game. Charlie Blackmon was the lead off batter for the Rockies and he popped out to the Royal catcher Salvador Perez for the first out, Vargas then struck out Brandon Barnes, walked Troy Tulowitzki and had Carlos Gonzalez ground out to first.

IMG_3922Jhoulys Chacin throwing his first pitch to the Royals  Nori Ioki. He sat the Royals down in order in the first.

The Rockies went down in order in the 2nd.

IMG_3980

Salvador Perez hit a lead off single in the top of the second.

IMG_4002

With bases loaded Mike Moustakas came to bat and hit double clearing the bases scoring Perez, Johny Giovotella and Lorenzo Cain.

IMG_4006

Giovotella rounding third after  Moustakas hit the ball, Perez already scored and Cain is rounding second. That gave the Royals a 3-0 lead.

Eric Hosmer made the 3rd out of the inning and it was hit to Arenado at third who threw to Morneau and Morneau tossed it to Jared before heading into the dugout. It was his first gamer.

Vargas continued to sit down Rockies batters in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings.

IMG_4027

Tulo complaining about a called strike 3 in the 4th inning.

IMG_4041

After heading back into the dugout he kept going and was screaming horrible, horrible call and was then tossed from the game and walt Weiss headed out of the dugout and actually uncrossed his arms and took his hands out of his pockets for this one. He did not get kicked out. Charlie Culberson who started at second moved to short and D.J. LeMahieu came into the game at second. The Rockies did get their first hit and base runner of the game the next batter when Cargo hit a single. By the end of the 4th inning Vargas had struck out 6 Rockies batters. 5 of the 6 were swinging.

Chacin pitched 6 innings for the Rockies giving up 3 runs on 7 hits striking out only 1 and walking 2. Vargas  went into the 7th with 8 strike out, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs.

IMG_4066

Drew Stubbs got the Rockies on the board in the 7th inning with a home run scoring himself and Nolan Arenado who hit a double to get on base.IMG_4082After the Stubbs home run Vargas was removed and Louis Coleman came into pitch for the Royals.

IMG_4089

McKenry takes a big swing breaking his bat during a 7th inning at bat.

IMG_4096

Rex Brothers pitched the 7th inning for the Rockies. He pitched well in the inning facing only 3 batters and threw only 10 pitches to get the batters out.

IMG_4104

Nori Aoki bunted during his 7th inning at bat. He was out on batters interference when the ball hit him in the foot at first. I wish I had the sequence of this play which I was getting and the card filled 2 shots after this one.

IMG_4110 Kelvin Herrera pitched the 8th inning for the Royals he struck out 2 in the inning and only faced 3 batters.

IMG_4118

LaTroy Hawkins pitched the 8th for the Rockies he did allow a hit to Perez in the inning but that was the only Royals batter to get on base since the 5th and first hit since the 4th.

IMG_4162

Cargo hit a single to get on base in the 9th and then Nolan Arenado walked and runners were in place for the Rockies to tie and win.

IMG_4166

Justin Morneau take a swing he would get on base but Arenado was forced out at second. With Cargo on third Stubbs came up and a hit would tie the game and that did not happen and  the Rockies failed to score the runs and they lost this one also 3-2.

This was not the best of road trips for them this year. they split with the Rangers, lost 2 of 3 against the Reds and both against the Royals. They were 2 and 5 on the trip.

Besides the scores it was a good 2 days at the K, I got a bunch of autographs done and had a great time hanging out with Jared who took the trip with me and John who we met there. I pretty much finished my team project and cleared a lot of photos out of my book. That always helps a trip worth while I also am 2 for 2 getting baseballs at Kauffman Stadium, I got a ball each day.

After the game Jared and I drove the 8.5 hours back to Denver.

So that is it for this one the Rockies are home again against the Padres this weekend, I will be there as much as I can. See You at Coors!

The Royal will also be at Coors in August on the 19th and 20th.

The Rockies K’ing at THE K!

5-13-2014

Colorado Rockies @ Kansas City Royals

Kauffman Stadium, K.C., Missouri

My 18th game of the year

1st away game!

IMG_3508

This was my first time to Kauffman driven by it many time on other road trips. I decided to go to this stadium because it is actually the closest stadium to Denver. The Rockies have not been there for a few years and will not be there for at least another 3 years. So we arrived at the stadium very early to get players and coaches arriving. It is a very good stadium to get away teams autographs. The players have to walk from the parking lot to a entrance about 100 or so feet away and also have to walk from the bus to entrance to the stadium. This day I was able to get Walt Weiss on a baseball card, Eric Young, Carlos Gonzalez and Franklin Morales on a 8×10.

IMG_3494

After entering the stadium with the early bird tour I was able to get Nick Masset and Corey Dickerson on my team project so I figured I would then head out to the outfield to see if I could shag a baseball and I did I got a ball that bounce off the track threw the gate for the bullpen and up into my glove. The ball was hit by Cargo or Justin Morneau. While I was out in right field Nolan Arenado signed and Jared grabbed my team project and got him on it. Now I only need Troy Tulowitzki on it and Rene Lachman. I did not realize  I needed Lach till earlier that day after he walked past me when he arrived. I did try getting him at the wall before going out to BP but did not get him.

IMG_3526

While waiting by the dugout I saw this sitting on the rail of the dugout. It is Nolan Arenados with the Gold Rawlings patches on it, Because he was the Gold Glove 3rd baseman last year. The early bird ticket was O.K. but I thought there would be a little more to it then just being able to get in 1 hour earlier than the regular gate time. I thought it would be a stadium tour then go down to dugouts or BP before the gates open but basically it just brought you down to the dugout you chose and was able to stay behind that dugout.

IMG_3531

The Rockies stretching before batting practice. It was cool to be in the stadium early because we very rarely see much of the Rockies warm up and batting practice at Coors. So before the game was a pretty productive because I got a bunch of autographs and a batting practice ball.

IMG_3542

James Shields was the starting pitcher for the Royals. He started with a quick 1,2,3 inning against the top of the Rockies line up.

IMG_3554

Franklin Morales started for the Rockies and Nori Aoki hit a lead off single. He then walked the third batter of the inning Billy Butler. The Rockies got out of the inning with a double play hit by Salvador Perez.

The Game was relatively un eventful and there was not much action the Royals scored a run in the first on a Alcides Escobar  single that scored Johnny Giavotella. The Rockies did get a second double play in for the first 2 outs of the inning Alex Gordan at second He walked to lead off the inning) and Danny Valencia at first. Aoki ended the inning by flying out to center. The Royals took a 1-0 lead.

In the 4th the Rockies got a run by playing a little small ball Tulo scored on a Morneau single to get the Rockies run and tie the game. The  Royals scored 2 more on a Lorenzo Cain home run to give the Royal a 3-1 lead.

IMG_3644

In the 4th I decided to take a walk around the stadium. To get a few photos from a different vantage point and see the stadium. This is a photo of the Royals second home run of the game off Morales a solo shot to right by Salvador Perez in the 5th inning extending the Royals lead to 4-1

IMG_3654

Alex Gordon stealing 2nd in the 5th inning. He walked after the Perez homer but did not score.

IMG_3670

Between inning they put the fountains on and I was trying to capture this unique feature of this park.

IMG_3679

I just could not get a photo really showing them the way I wanted but it is probably the most unique feature of the stadium  a other wise it is a very basic design of 70’s architecture. It does have a mostly open concourse like Coors. In left field they do have the Royals Hall of Fame and around the stadium the do have a few things to do with the Royals history. Also the have 3 statues on the concourse one is of the Kauffman’s, the second Frank White and the third Geaorge Brett.

IMG_3686

Shields pitching to Cory Dickerson in the 6th inning. Cory would strike out. Tulo would also strike out for the second out of the inning and Shields’ 1500 strike out of his career. He would also get 1501 in the inning striking out Cargo to end the inning.

IMG_3701

Tommy Kahnle warming up in the bullpen in the 6th inning.

IMG_3709

Kahnle came into pitch for Marales in the bottom of the 6th. Morales Pitched 5 innings, allowing 4 runs, 8 hits, 2 homeruns and walked 4 and lets just say Shields had more strike out in 1 at bat then Morales did all 5 innings! Kahnle would pitch a full 2 innings only allowing 1 runner a walk to Billy Butler in the 7th.

IMG_3727

After 7 complete innings Shield was taken out of the game. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits striking out 8 Rockies batters. Wade Davis replaced him in the 8th. The Royals scored a 5th run in the 8th inning and taking a 5-1 lead. The run came on a Escobar fielder choice scoring   Pedro Ciriaco.

IMG_3757

Nolan Arenado argues the called strike out to end the game. The Umpire did have the most consistent strike zone this game and it looked very frustrating to the batters. The Royals pitching was very good but I think there should of been a few less called strike 3’s for them but when you are pitching well it shows you will get the call. But when Guys who are batting well over .300 and pretty much seeing beach balls being pitched it is hard to believe the are not seeing the ball well or not swinging at good pitches.

Well that is it for this one beside the score it was a good day at the ballpark.

Got another one from the K and then back to Coors on Friday night.

5 for 5 for #5 and Arenado keeps the streak alive.

5-6-2014

Rangers vs. Rockies

Game 2of series

My 17th at Coors this year

IMG_3325

Another bad batting practice today. Did have a few by me and one knocked out of my glove by a bare hand idiot. This is just something that drives me crazy because you rarely see them actually catch the ball and usually it deflects off there hand and hits someone else. This guy did end up with the ball because after he smacked at it   bounce a row behind me and 2 behind him, I duck once it got deflected and he dove over the seats. It was not a bad day for autographs a bunch of guys signed and I got a Brandon Barnes card signed.

IMG_3338

Juan Nicasio was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. he got the first 2 rangers batters out and then gave up a 1 run home run to Andre Beltre to give the Rangers a 1 run lead.

IMG_3343

The first out of the game was a ground out by Chin Soo Choo to Charlie Culberson who made the start at second.

IMG_3357

Prince Fielder struck out to end the inning.

IMG_3375

Robbie Ross Jr. Started for the Rangers.

Charlie Blackmon hit a lead off home run for the Rockies to tie the game in the first.

IMG_3378

Tulowitzki would get hit by this pitch to get on base. Carlos Gonzalez would hit a single top get Tulo to third.

IMG_3388

Nolan Arenado was looking to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. This streak dates back to the White Sox series during the first home stand of the year.

IMG_3390

This at bat he flew out to right field and Tulo scored from 3rd. to give the Rockies a 2-1 lead.

Juan Nicasio kept the Rockies in the game and pitched well. He did pitch till the 5th inning and had thrown 88 pitches in 5 complete innings. Which is over 17 pitches per inning.  He control was the issue he only gave up 2 hits. He did walk 5 batters and only struck out 1 batter. The Rangers did only get 1 run on the Beltre homer in the 1st.

The Rockies did get a single run in both the 3rd and 5th inning. Drew Stubs lead off the 3rd with a single and scored on  a Cargo single. It was his second hit of the game. The 5th inning run was also started with a Stubbs hit this time a double and scored single by Cargo to give the Rockies a 4-1 lead. This was Cargo’s 3rd hit of the game.

The Rockies bats really came alive in the 6th not that they were not hitting the first 5 innings, but in the 6th 7 of the 9 Rockies in the line up had a hit and most also had an RBI or scored.

Brandon Barnes was the first base runner of the inning. He hit a single and advanced to second on a error at first base.

IMG_3402

Charlie Blackmon hit a double scoring him for the Rockies first run of the inning. Drew Stubbs got the second out of the inning a ground out to third then the hits really started coming Tulo hit a double followed by a single by Cargo. Nolan Arenado was walked, Justin Morneau, Charlie Culberson, Jordan Pacheco hit a single his second at bat and the runs kept coming with the men on base. Barnes hit a single his second trip to the plate. In total they had 8 hits and scored 6 runs. The Rockies had a 10-1 lead.

IMG_3407

Drew Stubbs decided that 9 run lead wasn’t enough in the 7th and hit a lead off home run. Cargo hit his 5th hit of the game a ground rule double of the fence in left center.

IMG_3414

Followed by a Arenado double to score the 1212 Rockies run of the game and extend his hitting streak to 26 games.

IMG_3415

Arenado rounding first heading to second as Choo gets the ball in the left field corner.

IMG_3424

Matt Belisle came in and pitched the Rockies, he gave up 2 hits and walked Elvis Andrus to load the bases. Both hits and walk came with 2 outs, He got out of the inning when Josh Wilson grounded out.

IMG_3433

In an interesting twist the Rangers used Mitch Moreland to pitch he is and infielder and has been the DH this year for them. he was probly the best pitcher for the rangers all game he had the first 1,2,3 inning of the game in the 8th inning. IMG_3442This is a look of the second pitch he threw to Jordan Pacheco.

IMG_3456

Andre Beltre sends one deep to center with 2 outs in the 9th inning.

IMG_3457That ball was caught be Drew Stubbs to end the game and the Rockies won the game 12-1  and the home stand with a 5-1 record.

Here are just some batting #’s :

Cargo went 5 for 5, 3 RBI’s

Tulo 2 for 4 and was hit by a pitch, 1 RBI

Stubbs 3 for 4 a triple away from the cycle, 1 RBI

Pacheco 2 for 4 with a walk, 1 RBI

Barnes 2 for 2 in the 6th inning as a pinch hitter

What a great home stand for them these bats are just on fire and pitching is keeping them in the game. I think Blake Doyle may be a big factor in the batting, because he is a teacher and was not a player who hit well. After 4 batting coaches over the last few years I think he has really helped in getting the team as a whole batting so well. It is exciting to watch this team play again and you never know who will be the guy who gets the hit in the clutch or get things going not just relying on the middle of the order. From Charlie Blackmon leading off with big hits to the bottom 3rd of the order getting things done as well.

Marc Stout interviewing Cargo after the game.

That is it for this one the Rockies are playing the next 2 in Texas before heading to Cincinnati for 3 this weekend and then to Kansas City for 2 that I will be at.

So see you at Kaufman!!!!!

Mini road trip!

Two for Tulo and Lyle see’s the 9th!

5-5-2014

Texas Rangers vs. Colorado Rockies

1st game of series.

My 16th game at Coors this year.

IMG_3222

Before the game I headed in and went to the Pavilions for batting practice within a few minutes. Tommy Kahnle picked up a ball from the warning track and said high and he tossed it up to me. This was only my 4th ball of the year. It was pretty cool because I usually do not get to many toss ups. Then I head over to the first base wall to see if I could get some autographs and Brandon Barnes was one of the first to sign and I had just got a photo of him printed of his triple on opening day. Charlie Blackmon and Mike McHenry signed. So while I was standing there Marc Stout from root sports came up to me and asked about the 2 photos of photos I took of Charlie Culberson on Saturday night. He said that Charlie really like him and I said I had extra copies of them on me and he said he would send him over. Charlie then came over and I gave him a the photo of his swing and the black and white of him running to second from first. He also signed a copy of each for me.

both photos appear in my post about Saturdays game:

http://roxaddict.mlblogs.com/2014/05/04/a-rockies-come-back-and-chuck-cobra-on-the-attack/

I thought that was cool that he saw the photo’s on twitter and I was able to get copies of them to him.

IMG_3227

Jordan Lyle started the game for the Rockies he had an incredible outing He got the first 6 batters out, that he faced and the Rangers did not get a hit off him till the 3rd inning, it was a double by Elvis Andrus.

IMG_3241

Martin Perez started for the Ranger he has been pitching very well this year and then he came to Coors!! After a pretty efficient 1st inning, where he struck out Brandon Barnes and got drew Stubbs and Troy Tulowitzki to ground out. The second inning things changes as Carlos Gonzalez started the inning with a a double and Nolan Arenado he a 2 run home run to left field to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead. Before this game Perez went  46 inning without having a homer hit against him and went 26 inning without giving up a run.

with 2 outs D.J. LeMahieu hit a ball to Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre. who threw to Prince Fielder at first and it thrown high and Princed got the ball and tagged D.J. the ball fell out of his glove and the umpire called him out. Walt Weiss came out and used his challenge and the call was overturned. here’s the link to the play :

http://m.mlb.com/video/v32629621/texcol-out-call-overturned-after-challenge-in-2nd/?partnerId=as_mlb_20140506_23313284

With the challenge that brought up Jordan Lyle who has been hitting well, but did strike out in the at bat. Someone said it was weird to do that to get to the pitchers spot. I thought it was a good idea, because Lyles can hit and if he got out which he did it flips the line up so Brandon Barnes would hit lead off in the 3rd. inning. Barnes did lead off the 3rd and it benefitted the Rockies when he hit a lead off double and would score  the Rockies 3rd run of the game, on a Cargo sac out.

The Rockies scored 2 additional runs in the 5th and 7th inning both the same way Drew Stubbs got the first hit of each inning a double and both were followed by a Troy Tulowitzki home run. Tulo has been hitting like crazy lately batting almost .600 at home and over .400 for the year. Once again it is great to see him hitting and playing the way we knew and expected him to hit over the past few years. He must be seeing beach balls being thrown by the pitcher. He also just won the April MLB player of the month and is making a case to get it in May as well.

The Rangers did score a run in the 6th inning. Shin-Soo Choo started the inning with a double and advanced on a Drew Stubbs error in center. Choo then scored on a Josh Wilson ground out to Tulo at short stop. The Rockies had a 7-1 lead.

IMG_3261

This is what a Rockies pitcher looks like pitching in the 9th inning, he almost went the distance.  He also batted, hit a single and scored the Rockies 8th run in the 8th inning. Like I said earlier he had an incredible game and kept the Rockies in this game.

IMG_3271

He was removed in the 9th after Beltre hit a lead off single in the 9th. He gave up 7 hits and 2 runs the second was Beltre in the 9th. He struck out 5 and only walked 1 in his full 8 innings he pitched He pitched 104 pitches 71 for strikes.

IMG_3296

Nick Masset pitched the remainder of the game. Masset was just called up from Colorado Springs, the first batter he faced was Prince Fielder who he walked then Alex Rios hit into a double play. He then gave up 2 single and the second Rangers run scored. The run really did not matter when you are up by 6. I would have left Lyles in till he was in a little more trouble then just giving up a single. But the Rockies got out of the inning and took he game 8-2.

It was another great start for Lyles who has been pitching great since his call up in early April for an injured Tyler Chatwood and kept himself in the starting spot and is now 4-0 with a 2.62 ERA. The Rockies are now 20-14 and 2 games back of the first place Giants.

So that is it for this one and the Rockies have another game at home before heading to Texas for 2 and then continue on a road trip to Cincinnati and Kansas City.  I will be in Kansas City for that 2 game series first mini road trip of the year!!!

See you at Coors and Kaufman!
