Butlers debut, Tulo gets tossed in this Rockies loss!

Today was the day that Eddie Butler was waiting for most of his life it was the day of his Major League debut. It was 2 years and 1 day since the day he was drafted in the first round by the Rockies in the 2012 draft.

Here he is throwing his warm ups in the bullpen before the game.

Heading to the dugout before the game with pitching coach Jim Wright and catcher Mike McKenry.

Here he is throwing his first pitch. It was a ball to the Dodgers Dee Gordon. Gordon would then hit a triple and would score when Hanley Ramirez hit a ground ball to Troy Tulowitzki at short. The Dodgers would get a the one run in the inning.

Justin Morneau diving to his left on the Gordon hit down the first base line.

Dee Gordon sliding into third for the first inning triple.

D.J. LeMahieu stretching for a ball fouled off down the first baseline. he missed it the photo is irrelevant to the game, but I liked it so put it into the post.

Yaisel Puig taking a swing during his first inning at bat.

He flew out to Charlie Blackmon in center for the 3rd. out of the inning.

Hyun-Jin Ryu was the starting pitcher for the Dodgers. Charlie Blackmon hit a single to get on base.

Charlie Blackmon dives back to first.

D.J. LeMahieu hit into a double play that got Blackmon out at second and himself at 1st. After a Troy Tulowitzki single, Justin Morneau flew out to end the inning for the Rockies.

In the second inning I decided to head over to the third base line to get a few photos of Butler since he is a right handed pitcher. On my way I took a few shot here he is pitching to Justin Turner.

Here is a photo from the third base side.

So in the second inning Andre either hit a single with 1 out and score on a Drew Butera double to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.

Here is Butler taking his first at bat which he did make contact on this swing, but grounded out to Ramirez at short for the last out of the inning.

The Rockies did have 2 base runners in the inning, Mike McKenry walked and Charlie Culberson hit a single.

The Rockies or the Dodgers did not score again till the Dodgers picked up 2 in the 5th inning, Ryu who lead off the inning with a double scored on Gordons second triple of the game and Gordon score on Ramirez single to left.

Eddie was then taken out of the game by Walt Wiess in the 6th inning after 2 more runs were scored and 2 runners on base. Tommy Kahnle came into pitch for the Rockies faced 2 batters and got them both out.

Butler gave up 6 runs, on 10 hits, walking 3 striking out Yaisel Puig twice. Swinging in the 3rd and looking in the 5th.

In the Rockies half of the 6th inning they scored 2 runs the first a solo home run by Drew Stubbs and the second McKenry scored on a Charlie Culberson triple. 6-2 Dodgers.

Culberson sliding into third base for the triple that scored McKenry.

The Dodgers went on to score a 7th run in the 9th and would end up winning by the 7-2 score. In the bottom of the 9th Troy Tulowitzki got tossed for the second time in the last 3 weeks arguing a strike call. drew Stubbs had also argued a strike call in the 8th inning but did not get tossed. It does seem that the have legitimate arguments about strike in the last few weeks when I catch a replay on T.V. they have been close borderline pitchers but were inconsistent in the way they were called during the same at bat or pervious at bats. The Rockies celebrating their win. This was the Rockies 8th lose in a row.

Overall compared to many pitchers debuts it wasn’t all that different and he did not do any worse then the rest of our starters have in the past few weeks. But now that the debut is out of the way hopefully he will pitch better in his next starts. Good Luck to him and hopefully he will become everything the fans and the organization expect him to be.

Well that is it for this one got 2 more this weekend against the Dodgers.

Rockies could not get a run, Day 1 in the Valley of the Sun!

San Diego Padres Vs. Colorado Rockies

Spring Training 2014 Game 1

Salt River Fields At Talking Stick.

After Flying from Denver and arriving in Phoenix I headed straight to Salt River Fields. I headed over to the field where player were doing batting practice. I met up with EB and Smitty. I was also surprised to see Gary and Ophelia who I know from Coors. They are down here for the first time. Got a few autos on my 2014 team project which is a 16×20 of the outside of Coors. Jorge De La Rosa was the first person I got on it. Within minutes I had gotten 4 more player Chad Bettis, Jhoulys Chacin and Rex Brothers. After the player left the field we headed into the stadium after a batting practice in the stadium I got Justin Morneau, Charlie Blackmon, D.J. LeMahieu and Walt Weiss. So I had gotten 9 players on it. I also Got Eddie Butler and Jonathon Gray on baseballs thanks to EB because I left my case of baseballs in the car. Both of them in scripted them with first round draft pick.

This year I brought my Mom to spring training, it is the first time she has ever been to spring training.

IMG_8964While Jorge was signing autographs and noticed that Jorge had a bat that was in his bag and broken. So he ask what he was going to do with it and then asked if he wanted it and EB got the bat. Here he is inside the stadium taking a photograph of it.

IMG_8983So after getting some autographs out of the way it was time for some baseball!!! Franklin Morales started for the Rockies here he is throwing the first pitch to the Padres Evereth Cabrera. Cabrera swung at this first pitch and grounded out to second. The next batter Will Venable also took a swing at the first pitch and grounded back to Morales for 2 outs on 2 pitches. The 3rd batter of the inning Chris Denorphia swung at 3 pitches and missed to strike out it was a five pitch inning for Morales and I was impressed by the quick work he made in the inning.

IMG_8990The Rockies lead-off man Charlie Blackmon lined out to short and Michael Cuddyer grounded out to third for a quick 2 outs for the Rockies. Carlos Gonzalez hit a double and Troy “The Deuce Tulowitzki came through in the clutch and ……oh wait no he grounded out to second to end the inning.

After giving up 2 runs in the 2nd a home run by Ryan Jackson. The third a wild pitch by Morales scoring Rene Rivera from third.

So after the very good first inning and the really bad 2nd inning Morales was taken out of the game with the Rockies down 3-0

Gregg Burke would come into the game to finish the inning. He face Xavier Nady and got him to ground out on 1 pitch to end the inning.

After Tommy Kahnle pitched the 4th and Tyler Matzek pitched the 5th Matt Belisle pitched in the 6th inning.

While walking around we notice one time all time saves leader (601) Trevor Hoffman was in the S.D. Padres bullpen. So EB had a baseball signed and later on Smitty had him sign a Padres hat. I already got him at Coors a few years ago. He is now 2nd on the list to Mariano Rivera. The guy in 3rd is Lee Smith (478) who played for the Cubs.

Wilton Lopez pitching in the 7th inning for the Rockies.

The Rockies would give up 2 more runs in the 8th inning. The first when  Rymer Liriano hit a double scoring Reymond Fuentes and the second when Kyle Blanks also hit a double scoring Liriano. (5-2) Padres. Brookes Brown was pitching the 8th for the Rockies.

Rosell Herrera playing short stop late in the game at short stop.

Yohan Flande pitching in the 9th inning for the Rockies.

That is it for day one of spring training next up I go and check out the Cubs new spring training facility in Mesa.

See you around!!!

Me and EB sending props to the Rockpile Ranter! Miss ya Brotha!
