Cardinals vs. Rockies
My 66th game at Coors this season 76th with road trip 79th with the Springs.
This was a day game so no BP. Did get to the stadium early for some graphs got a few Cardinals on a photo I have of Busch stadium. I ended up with 8 autographs on the photo. I did make some progress before the game I got Colin McHugh on my team 16×20 leaving only Roy Oswalt that I need on it. I now have 51 players and coaches autographs on it. There was no batting practice today.
So this game was a marathon and I have a lot of photos from this game.
Todd Helton was the first out on the field, as the Rockies took the field.
Roy Oswalt was the starting pitcher for Rockies after walking Matt Carpenter. Jon Jay flew out to center field and Matt Holliday did also. With Carlos Beltran batting Oswalt threw over to Todd Helton at first who fake the throw back to Oswalt and tagged Carpenter it was a great play and funny to watch especial that it was done to another first baseman!
A closer view of Oswalt pitching in the first.
Matt Holiday making contact during his first inning at bat.
Michael Wacha was the starting pitcher for the Cardinals. After Charlie Blackmon hit a single, Wacha struck out the next three batters to end the 1st. inning.
Charlie Blackmon getting ready to dive back to first.
Corey Dickerson take a pitch high for a ball. He was one of the batters that struck out in the first. Amazingly enough that the home plate umpire got it right.
Yorvit Torrealba was behind the plate for this game.
Here is Yadier Molina questioning a strike call during his 2nd inning at bat.
Tony Cruz would end the inning with a pop out to Todd Helton.
Todd Helton would lead off the 2nd inning with a double his 589th of his career and 18th of the season.
Yorvit Torrealba questions a strike call by the home plate umpire. See a trend here this guy did not have a consistent strike zone and a pitch that was a strike one time was a ball another. This did happen a lot throughout the game.
Todd Helton scored on a Torrealba single. to put the Rockies on the board 1-0.
Helton high fives Jonny Herrera after he scored. Charlie Culberson would also score to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead.
3 runs to tie the game in the inning.
Carlos Beltran hit a single that scored Jon Jay. (4-1) Rockies
Molina hit a single to score Holliday (4-2) Rockies
Matt Holiday would hit a single to tie the game in the 5th inning scoring Jon Jay from second, which he stole after getting on base with single.
Matt Holliday fist bumps first base coach Chris Maloney.
Taking a lead at first.
Charlie Blackmon hits a double in the 8th inning.
Corey Dickerson hits a triple scoring Blackmon and tying the game at 5.
After the Cardinals scored a 6th run in the ninth…..
…Todd Helton hit a solo home run to tie the game at 6.
Yorvit Torrealba give him a big hug after crossing the plate.
Jonny Herrera hit a double with 2 outs in the 9th. Ryan Wheeler grounded out to the pitcher Edward Mujica to end the inning and we headed for some free Baseball.
Bothe teams went down in order in the 10th. Matt Belisle pitched the 10th for the Rockies and Edward Mujica continued to pitch for the Cardinals in the inning.
Todd was going for the fences in the in the 11th with a few hard swings that almost took his helmet off. This was the second swing that this happened to his helmet.
Charlie Culberson hit a single in the inning.
After a very questionable out in the 12th Walt Weiss came out to argue a call. Jonny Herrera hit the ball and then kicked it the ump said it was in play and Jonny argues that it was in foul territory.
D.J LeMahieu hit a lead off single in the bottom of the 13th inning. Tulo was walked in the inning and they were both left on base.
The first out of the inning was a bunt attempt by Corey Dickerson which he popped out to Daniel Descalso.
The Cardinals once again did not score in the 15th D.J. LeMahieu would once again get on base by hitting a single and Corey Dickerson who should have swung in the 13th and popped out on a bunt. Got to swing this time and he made it count!
D.J. LeMahieu makes the turn at third and heading to home.
As he started his slide into home the ball went passed Yadier Molina.
The tag with ball rolling away.
He over slide home and Fernando Salas picks up the ball.
He dove back…..
…and was safe and the Rockies won 7-6.
The Dugout emptied quickly!!!
Corey Dickerson ended up on third base for a walk off triple. His first walk off of his MLB career I am sure that it will not be his last. I have seen him also walk of in Ashville in 2011. He seems to handle the presser situation well and has been hitting timely and well since his call up.
The team celebrates in the infield and the swarm Corey.
Jordan Pacheco got knocked over as Carey escapes from the crowd.
He than high-five Tulo
and the crowd caught up with him!
It was great to see such an exciting game and they made it worth staying for the 15 inning!! It was nice to see some very good pitching from the bullpen in these late innings to keep them in the game and that they were able to put together a few good offensive innings to get back in this game. It was a great day at Coors had a lot of fun this game. With this win the Rockies and Cardinals split the 4 game series.
The Rockies used 10 pitchers in this game Oswalt pitched 4 and 2/3rd. The Bullpen combined for 10 and 1/3rd innings. The Cardinals Wacha also only pitched to the 5th and they used 10 pitches. The Rockies used 14 different players at the plate and the Cardinals used 15. Another notable thing was Charlie Blackmon going 4 for 8 this game. LeMahieu, Culberson and Herrera all went 3 for 7. The Rockies had 21 hits on their 7 runs.
So that is it for this one.
I was also at Coors for the weekend series against the Diamonbacks and will be at the final 2 home games of the season against the Boston Red Sox.
L.A. Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies
So with this being the first game since the August 31st game you can guess that 1 of the 2 games I missed was the game on Sept. 1 where Todd Helton hit his 2500th hit. I had to work that day and could not be at Coors, I did make it home to see it on T.V. it was kind of depressing that I put so much time into being at Coors and I missed a very important game. Now the Rockies did win that game against the Reds 7-4. The second game I missed was the Rockies 10-8 lose in-game one of this series against the L.A. Dodgers. These were the first Rockies home games I had missed in well over a year and the first time I missed 2 home games in a row in a while. Now the only time I miss home games is when I am on my road trip, but don’t miss many when I am in town. So that is a total of 9 home games I missed this year. 7 when I was on my road trip.
Today I had the best day of Batting Practice I have ever had. It was the second time I had gotten 4 baseballs in one BP. The first was a roller of the Rockies. As I got that ball I noticed an Easter egg sitting behind one of the brackets for the seats in the Pavilions. So in the first few minutes I had 2 baseballs. The next was a catch during the Dodgers BP. The 4th came also during the Dodgers BP and it was a second catch. To get that one I ducked under the rail between sections (since I learned jumping over it is not the best option a few weeks ago)! and caught the ball for the 4th of the day. As I mentioned earlier this is the second time I had gotten 4 baseballs in a single MLB BP, but it is the 1st time I kept all 4 baseballs. Since the last time someone was bitching that I got the ball that should have been theirs. See post from June 14, 2013 game: http://roxaddict.mlblogs.com/2013/06/16/milestone-day-in-bp-and-the-rockies-let-this-one-get-away/
Jhoulys Chacin was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. Carl Crawford started the game with a single off him. Nick Punto also got a single so 2 hits in a row that was twice as many as his last game in 7 innings in the first 2 batters! He did manage to get out of the inning not allowing any runs.
The second inning of the game was not as good for him he faced 8 batters. Andre Either started the inning with a double, mark Ellis than walked and Skip Schumaker hit a single all 3 did score in the inning and the Dodgers took a 3-0 lead.
Andre Either sliding into home after a Tim Federowicz sac fly to center.
Ricky Nolasco was the starting pitcher for the Dodgers. He only allowed 2 Rockies runners in the first 4 innings of the game. One was a single by D.J. LeMahieu in the 1st and a walk to Dexter Fowler in the 3rd.
Charlie Blackmon making contact in the 3rd inning but he flew out to right for the first out of that inning.
Carl Crawford 4th run of the game in the 5th inning on a Adrian Gonzalez sac fly to center also. (4-0) Dodgers
Charlie Blackmon tried to get a 2 out rally going in the 5th with this double.
He scored on a Jhoulys Chacin single to give the Rockies their first run of the game. (4-1)
D.J. LeMahieu slides into third for a triple to lead off the 6th inning for the Rockies. He scored when Troy Tulowitzki grounded out to short. (4-2) Dodgers. This brought the Rockies back into the game only 2 runs down.
In a double switch in the 8th inning Carlos Gonzalez replaced Charlie Blackmon in left as Josh Outman came into pitch. Jhoulys Chacin pitched a full 7 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 9 hits, striking out 3 and walking 2. He also threw a 106 pitches. Not his best outing but besides the 3 run 2nd he pitched well and the Rockies stayed in the game coming with in 1 run.
Paco Rodriguez pitching for the Dodgers in the 8th inning. He has a really interesting delivery, his left hand almost stays in the spot it is in for this photo for more than a second while the rest of his body continues in the pitching motion. It was interesting to see this very unique wind up for a pitcher. He was the Dodgers 3rd pitcher of the game Nolasco pitched 6 and Jay Howell pitched the 7th. Nolasco struck out 5 Rockies batters and held them to 5 hits and the 2 runs.
Josh Rutledge pinch hit in the 8th for the Rockies and lead off with a solo homerun. (4-3) Dodgers
Rex Brothers came into pitch for the Rockies in the 9th and things did not go so well for him, The Dodgers picked up an additional 3 runs in the inning.
Andre Either walked after the runners on first and second moved up on a wild pitch to load the base’s.
With the base’s loaded Mark Ellis hit a ball to deep left-center.
which was fielded by Charlie Culberson and went over his head. He came in the inning to play left since Gonzalez still can’t bat due to his finger injury.
Now people thought it may have been better for Dexter Fowler to field it from center than Charlie from left but I really can’t say because I was looking through the camera, but if you look at the first photo Dex was not even in the frame close to the play. he may have slowed up because he was called off. I can not say which way it should have been played but I do know it cost the Rockies 3 runs. (7-3) Dodgers
Mark Ellis at second after his 3 RBI hit to left-center.
Rex Brothers was taken out of the game after the Ellis hit and Rob Scahill came into pitch and got the last out of the inning getting Schumaker to ground out to first.
The Rockies would try to get a rally going in the 9th with 1 out Wilin Rosario hit a single and advanced on offense indifference and advanced to third on a wild pitch to Todd Helton by Ronnie Belasario. Rosario did score when Helton grounded out for the 2nd out of the inning. (7-4) Dodgers
Nolan Arenado hit a single and advanced to second by stealing. Corey Dickerson pinched hit in the 9th and struck out to end the game. 7-4 was the final for this game with the Dodgers winning.
So that is it for this one from Coors. I have one more from this series that I hope I can get to before the Rockies get off the road. Have been very busy on the Rockies away weeks. Thanks for checking out the post for those who don’t know I was 29th in the MLB Blogs standings for the month of August and I owe that to everyone who checks out the blog regularly. Thanks again!
Giants vs. Rockies
Game 3 of series.
Today got to the game late and missed most of Batting Practice.
Jhoulys Chacin was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. He totally dominated the Giants in this game he sat down 6 straight batters in the first 2 inning including 4 strike outs.
Madison Bumgarner was the starting pitcher for the Giants. he started the game by striking out the Rockies lead-off man Charlie Blackmon.
D.J. LeMahieu reached base on an error by Brandon Belt at first.
The Rockies would get the board in the 2nd. Wilin Rosario lead off with a single and he scored on a Nolan Arenado double, it was Arenado’s 24 of the season.
Wilin Rosario scoring the Rockies first run of the game.
The Giants would get a runner on base in the 3rd. it was Brandon Crawford on an error by Troy Tulowitzki. They would get 2 more runners on in the 4th inning. Brandon Belt walked to lead off the innings. Buster Posey would reach on an error by Tulo, his second of the game. Belt would advance to third. Belt would score when Hunter Pence hit into a double play getting Posey out at second and himself at first. The game was tied at 1.
Chacin pitching in the 4th inning to Hunter Pence with Posey on first and Belt on third before the double play.
Tulo turning the double play at second.
In the 6th inning people started noticing that something special was happening her at Coors despite the run and the 4 base runners Chacin had not allowed a hit in this game.
Here he is pitching his 70th pitch of the game to Marco Scutaro. Scutaro was the second batter of the inning a Gregor Blanco lead-off with a fly out to center field.
Buster Posey struck out to end the inning and The No-No was still intact. It was interesting to watch the crowd starting to get into the game as they were realizing what was happening. We actually started talking about the No Hitter in the second jokingly and now it was the end of the 6th inning.
Posey walking off after the strike out.
Jhoulys Chacin walking back into the dugout after the 6th inning.
Madison Bumgarner walking off the field after being removed from the game by Bruce Bochy.
He pitched 5.1 innings giving up 5 hits, 4 runs, walking 1 striking out 6.
Yorvit Torrealba running to second as Nolan Arenado runs third.
The double scored Tulo and Rosario to give the Rockies a 3-1 lead.
Torrealba celebrates the double at second.
Really Like these 2 shots. He just show so much enthusiasm when he makes the big plays.
Jean Machi pitching for the Giants after Bumgarner was taken out of the game.
Jhouys Chacin contributed with a RBI on a force out at second to get Culberson out at second and Chacin beat the double play at first Arenado scored and Yorvit moved to third. (5-1) Rox
Chacin pitching in the 7th inning.
With 2 outs Brandon Crawford got the first hit of the game a bloop to shallow center to break up the No, No. It was great to be able to see this game. Chacin pitch unbelievable and is really starting to show how good of a pitcher he is and what he could accomplish in the future.
Chacin pitched a complete 7 innings, he only gave up the 1 run to Crawford and 1 run in the 4th because of the errors. He struck out 9 and walked only 1. Wilton Lopez came into pitch in the 8th, Who pitched to 3 batters getting 1 out and giving up 2 hits and 2 runs. Josh Outman came in to pitch to Brandon Belt who hit a ground rule double scoring Gregor Blanco. That was 1 of the runs that Lopez was responsible for. Matt Belisle Came in and faced 3 batter giving up a single to Hunter Pence scoring Belt for the 3rd Giants run of the inning. (5-4) Rox
Rex brothers show above came in to the game in the 9th inning and struck out Joaquin Arias and Brett Pill. Arias came in for Crawford and Pill for Roger Kieschnick.
Hector Sanchez grounded out to second to end the game and The Rockies would get the win and win the series against the struggling Giants 5-4. What an incredible game for Chacin and the Rockies it was nice to have some excitement on the pitchers side of the game usually it is cheering for a lot of offence.
Rex Brothers and Yorvit with a big hug after the win and Rex’s 14th save of the season.
That is it for this one.
The Rockies take on the Reds this weekend and I miss an Important game. Check out the excitement in the next few post’s.
See You at Coors!
Giants vs. Rockies
Game 2 of Series
After a beer at Jackson with the incognito Rockpile Ranter it was time to head in and see how batting practice would pan out. It was another day of almost immediately baseballs heading out into the pavilion. one landed a section in front of me as I was heading in and someone else just edged me out of picking it up. After putting down my bag I did get one pretty soon afterwards. It was a bouncer that I was able to pick up in the first row. With the Rockies still batting I got a second bouncer. After I got that one I said to someone:” that I have been getting baseball but have not caught one in a while”. Within about 2 minutes I got my 3rd ball of the day a catch! It was my first catch in over a month. The Rockies then ended their batting practice and the Giants started, with a small crowd and knowing how the first Giants group did the day before I thought I was going to have a record day. I have gotten 4 baseball once before and was looking to tie that or break it. Unfortunately this day it was not going to happen beside a few close calls I did not get any more baseballs.
Chad Bettis was the starting pitcher for the Rockies this was his 6th start at the major league level. He came into this game with 0-2 record. Before coming up he was 3-4 in Tulsa this year. This game he started with 2 quick outs getting both Gregor Blanco and Marco Scutaro to ground out. Brandon Belt was then got on base with a single and then the runs started coming in first Hunter Pence hit one of the longest home runs I have seen hit at Coors for 2 runs. Pablo Sandoval continued scoring with a solo home run to give the Giants a 3-0 lead.
Yusmeiro Petit was the starter for the Giants This was his second start for them. As others have said it was a strong start he allowed 1 base runner in the first 2 innings. D.J. LeMahieu in the first but Troy Tulowitzki hit into a double ply to end the inning. He did also get Corey Dickerson to strike out in the first and Wilin Rosario to end the second inning.
Todd Helton hitting a ball in the 2nd inning trying to get 1 hit closer to the 2500 career hits. This one was actually a fly out to Hunter Pence in right field. I have been trying to photo graph all of Todd’s at bats this week so I can get his 2500 hit I just hope if I do get it looks like the above photo with the ball still in frame! He is just 3 hits away.
The Rockies did get some hits and a run off of Petit in the 3rd inning. Nolan Arenado started it off with a single and scored on a Charlie Blackmon double. (3-1) Giants
Tulowitzki started the 4th inning off by hitting a single and after scoring it brought the Rockies with in 1 of the Giants (3-2)
the Giants added a run in the 6th Brandon Belt scored on a Hector Sanchez single (4-2) Giants
Helton trying to once again get a little closer to 2500! This one was a fly out to right field in the 6th inning. He also had a chance in the 4th but was walked.
With 1 out in the 6th Wilin Rosario tried to get things going with a single, here he is clapping at first. He did not score after Arenado grounded out and Charlie Blackmon popped out to end the inning. Wilin was 3 for 4 with a double this game and 1 RBI.
Ex- Rockies Javier Lopez came into pitch for the Giants in the 8th inning. He struck out Helton and was than taken out of the game and replaced by Santiago Casilla. Yusmeiro Petit pitch 6 complete innings. Giving up 6 hits 2 runs walking 3 and striking out 6. A very good outing for only a second start in the Majors. The Rockies did seem to waste a bunch of opportunities to score only scoring 1 in the 4th leaving 3, a Rosario double in the 8th that was with 1 out and he did not score and a few other innings that could have amounted to a run or 2 more throughout the game. They did score a 3rd run in the 7th and so did the Giants. (5-3) Giants
Sergio Romo pitched the 9th for the Giants and put the Rockies down in order to end the game with the 5-3 final.
That was it for this game got 1 more left in this series and will be at Coors all week-end for the Reds Series.
After the game I took a photo of the banner that Alise had signed before the game by Todd Helton. It is a large banner he gave a great autograph on it.
So once again see you at Coors and thanks for reading.
Padres vs. Rockies
Game 2 of series.
Today I attended the game with someone who I very rarely mention and is actually a very important person to make this all happen. It was my boss because of her awesome ability to juggle schedules and make it possible for me to attend as many of the Rockies home games as possible. So far I have not missed a home game; I have been in town for all year. So if you remember back in May I attended a game with most of the people including my boss to the game this game I brought just my boss, as she says “It is to kiss butt because I let him go on a month vacation”! So it was because she gave me the time to be able to hop in my truck and drive around the country watching baseball games. So this was my thank you to her for being so awesome!!!!! Thanks you for making this happen more than you ever could imagine! You Rock!
So enough Butt kissing there was some baseball to write about.
Jeff Manship was the starting pitcher for the Rockies this was his second start for him this season. his first start was in NY against he Mets. This photo was a photo during the first inning which means I messed up first pitch which looked like this.
So he started the game with a single to Will Venable.
Venable diving back to first after his single lead-off single. The Rockies would get the next 2 batters out and then Yonder Alsonso hit a single and scored Venable. (1-0) Padres
Eric Stultz was the starting pitcher for the Padres. Eric Stultz was with the Rockies back in 2011 spent most of the year in the Springs and played 6 games with the Rockies. He did not have the best of starts.
Dexter fowler got things going with a leadoff single, D.J. LeMahieu followed with a single and Troy Tulowitzki walked.
Wilin Rosario would get the first RBI for the Rockies, when he hit a single that scored Fowler and LeMahieu. The Rockies took a 2-1 lead. Nolan Arenado flew out to center field and Todd Helton hit a single, that single scored Tulo.
A Charlie Culbertson single would score Rosario Charlie Blackmon popped out to short and Manship the grounded out. The Rockies finished the inning with a 4 runs. (4-1) Rox
The Padres would once again take the lead in the second with 4 runs. Nick Hundley would hit a 2 run home run scoring himself and Jaff Decker who walked before Hundleys at bat. The next 2 were with some small ball Stultz got on base with a single and he scored on a Venable single scored Stultz and a Alexi Amarista single scored Venable for 4 runs in the inning. (5-4) Padres
If that was not enough the Padres Jedd Gyorko hit a solo home run to give the Rockies a 6-4 lead.
In the 3rd or 4th inning we headed to the upper deck to see one of her friends who were sitting up there and The boss wanted to test out here new super cool wide angle lens. 10 MM lens gets like the whole stadium in the photo from the upper deck. I got a few shots of the game from up there.
Manship pitching in the 4th inning.
Nolan Arenado started the 5th inning for the Rockies with a triple. He scored 2 batters later on a Charlie Culbertson sac-fly to left. (6-5) Padres
Michael Cuddyer came in to pinch hit for Manship in the 5th inning. He hit back to the Padres pitcher Tim Stauffer for an out at first. Stauffer replaced Stultz in the 5th inning.
Adam Ottavino came in to pitch in the 6th inning. The Padres did score a 7th run in the sixth. (7-5) Padres. Jeff Manship left the game giving up 6 runs on 8 hits including the 2 home runs, walk 2 struck out none.
The Rockies went down in order in the 6th inning. Walt Weiss came out after Tulo struck out looking. Now that Tulo is getting a rep for arguing and did get thrown out on the road last week Weiss came out to protect him.
Neither team did anything in the 7th and the Rockies with 2 outs looked like they may get something going.
After the 2 Charlies grounded out Corey Dickerson would hit a triple off of the Padres Luke Gregerson.
After the hit the Padres would bring in ex- Rockies Huston Street. The inning would end and Dickerson did not score.
Dickerson on third with Street pitching after his 8th inning triple off Gregerson.
Wilton Lopez sat the Padres down in order in the 9th and the Rockies also went down in order against the Padres and they would win the game 7-5. It put an end to their 4 game winning streak but they are 4-1 on this home stand.
This was a pretty good game despite the loss. I would like to see the win since they have been playing well since that really bad road trip to the East coast and the not so good home stand against the Cubs, Marlins and Brewers.
Well that is it for this one. Have another to go from this series.
See You a Coors!
Marlins vs. Rockies
Jorge de La Rosa was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. He struck out the Marlins first batter Adeiny Hechavarria He then walked Christian Yelich this was the 4th time in 5 MLB at bats he was on base. After the walk to Yelich he struck out Giancarlo (Mike) Stanton gave up a single to Ed Lucas who got out at second on a Placido Polanco hit to Rockies third base man Nolan Arenado who threw it over to D.J. LeMahieu at second for the third out of the inning.
In the Rockies first Dexter Fowler would fly out to left field and LeMahieu hit back to Miami’s pitcher Jacob Turner who threw to first for the second out Carlos Gonzalez hit a single but was caught stealing at second. I think he was safe but can’t fully tell but by where his left hand is and the ball is I think the left hand hit the bag before the ball hit the glove.
For a few days people were mentioning that they have not seen Roy Oswalt around well there was a siting he was in the dugout for this game.
The Rockies scoring began in the 2nd inning after Todd Helton hit his 579th double of his career with 2 outs. He than scored on a Nolan Arenado double. The 579th double now puts Helton in soul position of 19th passing Wade Boggs who he was tied with at 578. Next on the list is H.O.F Cap Anson. Played from 1871 (his career started 102 years before Helton was born) Anson played for 26 years with the Rockford Forest City’s, Philadelphia Athletics and Chicago White Stockings/Colts. He also managed during his playing career for the Athletics in 1875 and 1879-1897 for Chicago. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939, 17 years after his death at the age of 69.
Now back to the game.
The Rockies got the lead 1-0
Not Much happened till the 5th inning when they scored their 2nd run of the game. When Yorvit Torrealba scored on a LeMahieu sac-fly to center. Torrealba got on base with single advanced to third on a Fowler single. (2-0) Rox
No this is not #580 it was a single that resulted into an extra base when the Marlins Hechavarria made a throwing error to first. Michael Cuddyer did get out at second but Todd was not doubled up and advanced to second.
De La Rosa pitched a great game he pitched 6 scoreless innings and gave up 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 5. Edgmer Escolona came in and pitched in the 7th. He let up 2 singles and hit pinch hitter Gregg Dobbs.
Josh Outman then came into pitch to Yelich and after striking him out was replaced by Wilton Lopez.
Wilton pitched to Stanton and he hit to third and Arenado touched the bag to get out Jeff Mathis.
After walking in the 8th Michael Cuddyer stole second base.
The Rockies were only up by 1 in the 8th The Marlins picked up a run with a little small ball off of struggling reliever Matt Belilse. Besides the run he gave up 3 hits. He did strike out Justin Ruggiano to end the inning.
Rex Brothers came in for the save in the 9th besides the walk to Stanton who would end up being the last out of the game on a force at second he pitched well striking out Hechavarria and Yelich grounding out. Yelich did not have as good of a game as his debut the only time he was on base this game was on the 1st inning walk he was 0 for 4 his next 4 at bats.
LeMahieu tossing to Tulo for the last out of the game.
Torrealba and Brothers high-five after the out and that was the game. The Rockies won this one 2-1.
Well that is it for this one as I continue to play catch-up with this home stand I have 1 more from this series and the 3 against the Brewers. Check back to see those photos.
Also remember I am doing a contest, Answer the question besides Jason Jennings who are the other 3 Rockies pitchers to record 10 wins before the All-Star break. Name 2 of the others. email: Rox_addict@yahoo.com with answer there is a under score between the x and a.
Marlins vs. Rockies
This was the second game of the 4 game series against the Miami Marlins.
Jhoulys Chacin was the starter for the Rockies. The game started with a line out to D.J. LeMahieu at second.
The Marlins call up Christian Yelich swung at the second pitch he saw in his MLB career and hit his first MLB hit. A single to right field. He was the only base runner in the first inning for the Marlins.
Jose Fernandez was the starting pitcher for the Marlins. He walked Dexter Fowler to start the inning, but only face 3 batters Dex did get caught stealing second D.J. LeMahieu flew out and Carlos Gonzalez struck out.
Dex getting back to first after LeMahieu flew out to right field.
Tulo making an out in the 2nd inning.
Todd Helton taking a big swing in the 2nd inning for a solo home run and give the Rockies a 1 run lead.
Todd watching the ball head out over the right field wall.
Jonny Herrera put on the catchers helmet to warm up Jhoulys Chacin between the 2nd and 3rd inning.
Adeiny Hechavarria hit a lin drive back to Chacin which hit him in the leg and was fielded by Nolan Arenado for the Marlins second hit of the game. Chacin pitched very well in the 2nd inning and gave up this hit an a second to Christian Yelich once again, for his second MLB hit. It was also Yelich’s first RBI, when Hechavarria scored to tie the game at 1.
LeMahieu hitting a lead of single in the 4th inning.
Michael Cuddyer at bat in the 4th inning he struck out for the third out of the inning. This was one of those I just like the photo so put it in the post.
Arenado throws to first for a double play attempt. Jose Fernandez hit a ball back to Jhoulys Chacin who threw to Arenado and then Arenado threw to first being covered by D.J. LeMahieu.
Fernandez was safe at first. The Marlins took a 3-1 lead in the 5th inning scoring 2. Hechavarria double scored Jeff Mathis and Yelich got his third hit and second RBI of the game and his Career. Not a bad debut!
D.J. LeMahieu came out fighting in the 6th inning with his lead off triple. While everyone else seems to be slumping he has been a hitting this home stand. he is batting .390 to this point with this triple and 2 doubles in the July 19th lose against the Cubs.
The Marlins scored a 4th run in the 8th inning on a Giancarlo (Mike) Stanton solo home run. Guy has to hit one when he is here!!! The home run came off of Josh Outman who came into pitch the inning he faced 3 batters in the inning before Edgmer Escolona came into the game and face one batter to get the Rockies out of the inning on a double play hit by Ed Lucas.
The Marlins closer Steve Cishek came into pitch for the Marlins in the 9th inning he was the Marlins third pitcher of the game. Fernandez pitched 7 giving up just 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 8 of the Rockies batters. The Marlins second pitcher Mike Dunn pitched the 8th striking out Fowler and LeMahieu.
Cargo walked in the 9th and then stole second.
Troy Tulowitzki strikes out looking for the first out of the inning. this was his 3rd strike out of the game.
Michael Cuddyer gave a shot at trying to score Cargo but was unsuccessful in his attempt when he grounded out to first.
Cuddy out at first.
Helton would pop out to the Marlins third baseman Placido Polanco to end the inning.
The Rockies would lose their second game of this series and the third of the home stand.
That’s it for this one got a bunch more from this series and home stand.
See You at Coors.
Cubs vs. Rockies
Game 3 of series.
Ok I think I got this my43rd game at Coors, 52nd with road trip and 55th with Colorado Springs! Just a little baseball!!!!!
This being a Sunday and a bobble head day the day started early the parking even with the free Sunday parking was difficult. Even with getting to Coors around 10:15 AM it was already limited and I had to park a few blocks further than normal. The lines were already starting this early. Todays Bobble head was Troy Tulowitzki’s so that brought out a lot of people to get his bobble head.
I did not care that it was his I just need it to get the whole collection. If I did not need it for the set it is not a must have. Not my favorite player and I think it looks like he is dropping a deuce!!
Instead of throwing out the first pitch he caught the first pitch which confirmed my theory that he is a catcher!!
It being a Sunday it was autograph Sunday the signers today were Jhoulys Chacin, Drew Pomeranz, Josh Rutledge and Josh Outman. I had my Mom get on Drews line and she got him on my 16×20 and I got a card signed by Jhoulys.
Tyler Chatwood was the starting pitcher for the Rockies here he is throwing the first pitch to the Cubs Luis Vilbuena. Chatwood faced 6 Cubs batters in the first inning Valbuena grounded out, he did walk Nate Schierholtz and struck out Junior Lake to end the inning.
Charlie Blackmon started in right field today and batted second for the Rockies. Dexter Fowler started the game striking out, but Blackmon would hit a double and Score on a Carlos Gonzalez single.
The ball Charlie hit to left for his double.
The Next batter after Charlie was Troy Tulowitzki
Swinging a little wildly at a pitch he made contact and grounded out to Cubs short stop Starling Castro.
castro throwing over to first base to get Tulo out.
Anthony Rizzo making the catch at first.
Carlos Gonzalez hit a single and scored on a Michael Cuddyer double for a 2-0 Rockies lead.
Edwin Jackson was the starting pitcher for the Cubs.
Cuddy heading to second for his double.
Nolan Arenado popped out to end the inning.
Here he is watching the ball go up in the air.
Darwin Barney Making the catch just past the infield grass.
After a few innings we decided to get a different vantage point for the game some place the group normally doesn’t watch a game and that is in the 3rd level.
With moving and not too much happening I did not get to many photos this is from Cargo scoring in the 6th inning on a Nolan Arenado inside the park home run wait triple no wait I mean double. OK confused yet I was also! Nolan Arenado hit a ball to Junior Lake in centerfield on the throw in the ball passed the infield and hit of the wall Cargo and Michael Cuddyer scored and the ball rolled into the Rockies dugout.
Michael Cuddyer scoring.
Nolan Rounding third.
Nolan at third while the umps discuss the play.
Now why was he not aloud to go home and how did he end up back on second? Well he had to go back to the base which the Cubs last had control of the ball. Which means he had to go to second because the place he was at the last time the Cubs had control of the ball. That was at second when Lake threw the ball. So he had to go back to second. So basically the rule allows you to throw the ball away if you think there will be a inside the park home run. What really confesses me is that if Arenado had to go back 2 bases how does the 2nd run count. Shouldn’t Cuddy have to go back to third base also. Not that I don’t want the Rockies to get the run but the rule makes no sense and is slightly confusing.
Walt Weiss comes out to talk to the Umps about the call. I think he needs to get a little bit more animated when he goes out to argue calls. The tough guy arm cross is not working I think he has to go out there with a little fire in the eyes!! I think he has to you tube Earl Weaver or Billy Martin!
Nolan returning to second base.
I think if he should of got the cycle just because he got a home run, triple and a double which was ruled a single with advancement on the throw all in one at bat!!!! (Embrace the Sarcasm)!
After Tyler Chatwood pitched 6 innings allowing 2 runs both in the 6th inning Josh Outman came into pitch in the 7th. Antony Rizzo hit a solo home run and Nate Schierholtz scored on a Darwin Barney sac fly to left. Schierholtz got to third an a bad throw to second on a pick off attempt. After facing 3 batters in the inning Outman was taken out and Edgmer Escolona came into the game.
Edgmer pitching in the 7th inning.
James Russell came in to pitch for the Cubs in the 8th. He only pitched to Charlie Blackmon and then the Cubs made another pitching change and put in Matt Guerrier.
With Rafael Betancourt on the DL because of an Appendectomy Rex Brothers came in to pitch in the 9th and got his 5th save of the year.
Junior Lake swing for the final out of the game.
The Rockies went on to win 4-3.
That is it for this series at Coors.
I have the Marlins series coming up. So far They have played 3 in that series.
Well See you at Coors!!!!
Remember sometimes this week I will be announcing the prize for the trivia contest!!
If you want to see the question check out this post from earlier in the week: http://roxaddict.mlblogs.com/2013/07/23/roxivus-whatever-that-means-and-game-one-of-the-cubs-series/
Colorado Rockies vs. Boston Red Sox
Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts
Game 1 of the 2 game series, 3rd game of the road trip.
Saturday after the Clippers game I drove over night to N.Y., I hung out there Monday and I headed for Boston on Tuesday Morning.
I checked into the hotel and headed to Fenway after a few laps around the area looking for parking we found a spot not too far away. My friend Chris from N.Y. came up to Boston with me for these games.
We got to the stadium about 2 hours before the game and had to pick our tickets up from V.I.P will call which everyone said was the will call by the D gate on Yawkey and Van Ness street. after I waited online I was told, when I got to the window that my tix were at the will call at another entrance. So we had to be walked to the window since Yawkey Way is closed and considered inside the stadium when gates are opened. So we got our tickets and headed into the stadium.
As we entered the field area the Rockies were taking batting practice and I wanted to head straight to right field and see if I could snag a baseball, being so amazed by the stadium I just stayed by the left field side and took in the stadium.
As I entered the field area I can’t even explain the things that was going through my head. It was just the ahh of being at Fenway, the players that have played for this team, the history and Green Monster. The field almost has a personality of its own and the stands have their own character. It is almost like they are as much as a part of the team as the legendary, Iconic and Hall of Fame Players that called this stadium home for over 100 years.
The press box and behind home plate area.
Then I headed out towards the green monster.
Here is a look of it from the left field line.
Jenny and the Cowboy interviewing Carlos Gonzalez during the pre-game show.
Todd Helton signing for the fans at Fenway.
Marc Stout waiting to go live pondering the history of this stadium and what Stoutistics he could find!! O.K. maybe not, but that is my story and I am sticking with it!
The Boston Symphony Orchestra played God Bless America and the National Anthem.
The Musical Director Andris Nelsons threw out the ceromonial first pitch.
A look at the field during the National Anthem.
Ryan Dempster throwing the first pitch to Dexter Fowler.
Fowler walked to get on base.
D.J. LeMahieu dropped a bunt advanced Dex to second and got and base.
Red Sox catcher Jarod Saltalamacha could not come up with it.
Carlos Gonzalez popped out and Michael Cuddyer hit into a double play to get D.J. out at second and himself out at first. Dex remained on base.
Cuddyer out at first base.
The scoreboard in the outfield was cool they had to change the out of town scoreboard between innings.
The Red Sox got things started fast against the Rockies starter Juan Nicasio. Jacoby Ellsbury hit a ball down the left field line that was fair and a fan grabbed the ball for fan interference double.
It was the guy on the corner behind the guy in white.
The umpire talking to the fan that interfered not sure if he was ejected or not but I think the Ump warned him.
Jacoby Ellsbury scored on a Dustin Pedroia single, Red Sox up by 1. The Red Sox scored 1 more in the inning. Nicasio walked 2 in the inning the Red Sox got 3 hits and Ellsbury fan interference.
Wilin Rosario with one out in the 2nd inning hit a solo home run.
Over the Green Monster in left. Ball is circled in red. (2-1) Red Sox
This was the first time I had seen Corey Dickerson in a Rockies uniform since being called up. I think the above photo was a foul.
He did ground out this at bat to second.
Here is a look of Fenway during Jacoby Ellsbury’s at bat in the second inning. He grounded out for the second out of the inning. The Red Sox rallied in the inning. Shane Victorino hit a double and scored on a Dustin Pedroia double.
David Ortiz doubled, Mike Napoli hit a single so did Daniel Nava also singled. The Red Sox scored 3 in the inning. (5-3) Red Sox
The Red Sox snt 8 batters to the plate in the 2nd. The Rockies went down in order in the 3rd.
J.D. Drew pops out to left in the 3rd.
Cargo making the catch for the first out in the 3rd inning.
Jose Iglesias gets back to first after hitting a single with one out. He and Ellsbury would also score in the inning.
Nicasio was taken out of the game in the third inning.
Walt Weiss takes the ball from Juan Nicasio. He left the game after 2 1/3. He gave up 12 hits 7 runs walked 2 and struck out 2.
Adam Ottavino came in to pitch he struck out David Ortiz and Mike Napoli flew out to end the inning. The red sox did pick up 2 more runs in the inning. (7-1) Red Sox
Michael Cuddyer got things going for the Rockies in the 4th. he got a lead of single and advanced to second on a wild pitch or passed ball.
He did eventually score on a Nolan Arrenado single. (7-2) Red Sox
Cory dickerson moved to third on the Arrenado single, Corey was hit by a pitch to get on base.
In the bottom of the 4th J.D. drew hit a ball to deep center which hit the top of the wall and bounced up and came back on the field it was close to being a home run. The Umpires headed in to review the play.
Drew at third base talking to the umpire who remained on the field while the other 3 went into review the play.
The umpires came out and ruled it a triple. There was no one on base when he hit it but did score on a Jose Iglesias singe (8-2) Red Sox
The Rockies once again did not do anything in the 5th. Above is a photo of Todd and David Ortiz after he was walked in the 5th inning. When I took this photo I was thinking of all the stats compiled by these to over the last 15+ years. That is a lot of home runs, doubles, hits and RBI’s.
Manny Corpas came in in the 6th inning to pitch for the Rockies he pitched well in the 6th. He only face 3 batters for the first 1,2,3 inning of the game for the Rockies. The Rockies scored 2 in the 7th and the Red Sox scored 2 more in the bottom of the inning. (10-4) Red Sox
One of the Rockies runs was on a Jonny Herrera hit a triple to left center and Shane Victorino hit the wall pretty hard trying to field it.
Nolan Arrenado crosses the plate for the first of the Rockies 2 runs in the 7th.
I could not believe this when I saw it the wave going around Fenway Park. I am not a fan of the wave and this is just wrong this also happened in Wrigley earlier in the year when the Rockies were there. Not a fan of the wave.
The Red Sox won this one 11-4. it was a very rough day at Fenway. It was really cool to be at this stadium definitely a favorite. It was everything I expected and more the staff was really great the access before the game to be able to move around the stadium. You were able to get to lower sections to see players and get autographs.
That is it for this game have another one from this series. Taking a little time to get these done because of lack of Wi-fi which has been a theme this year. If you remember we had trouble with this at spring training also.
More games to come after a few days in NY I will get back to games seeing a bunch in the next week.
Follow the adventure live on Twitter been trying to post as much as possible from games.
Thanks to Mary O for helping out with the tickets for this game wish you could have made the trip.
Phillies vs. Rockies
My 39th of the year at Coors.
I came directly from work and made it to the stadium about 20 minutes before 1st pitch I heard the batting practice was really good once again!
Here is starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood heading out from the bull-pen with the starting pitcher entourage! Wilin Rosario, Pitching Coach Jim Wright and Jerry Weinstein. I take this photo almost every game I go to, but this group always has the best ones. Very animated and lively with a lot of interaction.
Tyler Chatwood throwing the first pitch to the Phillies Ben Revere. Now over this weekend I met and sat by a lot of Phillies fans and most of them have been complaining about this guy. He doesn’t hit home runs! Well he is the leadoff man. Another he is never on base well the three game I have seen him play he hit a bunch of single not to be a spoiler for my own post but he went 3 for 5 this game. Not what they were saying about him must be Coors!!!! Another did say has never hit a home run and well he still has not. I thought everyone hit home runs at Coors! Oooh wait the Phillies haven’t hit any this series yet. Yes, this is sarcasm having to do with that conversation everybody always has about Coors Field and why we hit well which I had with a Phillies fan this weekend.
Ben Rever diving back to first base after his first inning single. He did go on and steal second and advanced to third on a error and scored. I would say he did his job. It would have saved time if he just hit the home run! What does everyone think their leadoff man is like Dexter Fowler.
Carlos Gonzalez Throwing the Ryan Howard hit ball to left.
Wilin Rosario grabbing the ball and tagging out Michael Young at home.
The Phillies scored 1 run in the first and avoided a 2nd on a great throw by Cargo.
Jonathan Pettibone was the starting pitcher for the Phillies. After Josh Rutledge popped out to first for the first out of the inning the Rockies got all over Pettibone.
So the second batter of the game Jordan Pacheco hit a single.
Followed by a Cargo double.
Scoring Pacheco. Pacheco making the turn at third before scoring the Rockies first run of the game/inning.
The next batter Michael Cuddyer hit a single. Scoring Cargo. (2-1) Rox
Rosario hit a triple, here he is after sliding into third base.
Tyler Colvin than sent one Opposite field for his third home run since his return to the Rockies. (5-1) Rox
Tyco and Rosario after Tycos 2 run home run.
The Rockies were not done just yet Nolan Arenado hit a single he did get out at second on a D.J. LeMahieu single.
D.J. then stole second base.
He scored on a Tyler Chatwood single. Chatwood has to be one of the best hitting pitchers in the game currently. If he is not he has to be pretty close to it. He is batting.438 (7 for 16) with 5 RBI’s.
Chatwood advanced to third on a really bad throw showed by a really bad photo!
The ball got passed third base man Michael Young and Lemahieu scored as the ball rolled. So he did not really score on the Chatwood single it was on the bad play after it!
Here is what happened: Chatwood grounded to Ryan Howard who throw home D.J. turned back to third and Catcher Umberto Quintero over threw 3rd. D.J. scored Chatwood moved to 3rd.
The Rockies score 6 in the first with great hitting by most of the lineup in this inning. They did have 10 batters in the inning. Rutledge ended the inning lining out to second.
It was visit Rapid City Day at Coors when we arrived they gave us poster with Dante Bichette, Andre Galarraga, Todd Helton and Vinny Castillia on them, looking like Mt. Rushmore. The other side had a photo of the real Mt. Rushmore. Then they had the president from the Rapid City South Dakota State tourism there as well they were giving way trips to Rapid City.
The Phillies did pick up a run in the 2nd. On a Ben Revere single scoring Umberto Quintero from 1st. The Rockies did not score in the second (6-2) Rox
Rosario followed his first inning triple with a 3rd inning double and again doubled in the 4th. Scoring in both innings. The Rockies only scored one in the 3rd. but it got us tacos (7-2) Rox
Chatwood hit another single in the 4th once again contributing to the offence.
Chatwood beating the throw from Jimmy Rollins to Ryan Howard for the single! (10-2) Rox
The pitchers continued to contribute offensively in the 6th when Adam Ottavino got on base on an error. He ended up on second. He would remain there as Josh Rutledge struck out for the second time in this game and his fifth time not getting on base. He ended up 0 for 6 on the day. The pitchers were 3 for 3 with a sac bunt!
Ryan Howard striking out to end the game. The Rockies won this one 10-5. The Phillies got 3 runs in the 8th off Chris Volstad.
Well That is it for this one. The Rockies tie the series with the Phillies at 1 apiece. Got one more game from this series to go and It was a great one. A Phillie Phinally hits a homer.
Also looks like the first stop on my road trip will be in St. Louis!
Remember to follow me the whole trip on twitter @roxaddict.
Now with the presidents theme they made the players look like presidents. Here are the photos they had on the board during their at bats!
Here are the photos!
