Rockies vs. A’s
Phoenix Municipal Stadium
So we arrived at Phoenix Municipal about 3:30. We were waiting for the Rockies bus to arrive which did not show till about 6. So I grabbed some photos of the outside of the stadium while we waited.
Smitty said he wanted to be mentioned in this post so see the guy sitting on the bench well that is Smitty!!!!!!
Here he is with Ryan Wheelers gloves. That were given to him signed before the game. We waited for the Rockies to show up and got a few autographs including Larry Walker on a ball and Ellis Burkes on card. We than headed to the wall and I got Brandon Barnes on a card.
After we entered the stadium we waited by the Rockies dugout for a little bit. This is one of the few photos I took of details around the stadium they had banners of there Hall of Fame members it was Rollie, Ricky Henderson, Catfish Hunter and a few others.
A.J. Griffin was the starting pitcher for the A’s. He started the game by hitting Brandon Barnes.
Brandon Barnes being hit by the pitch.
Charlie Culberson took advantage of the runner on base by hitting a double to put the Rockies on the board with a quick 1 run lead and scored a second run when Culberson scored on a Corey Dickerson single.
After a ball hit by Jed Lowrie that was called a out at first for a double was reviewed via replay and over turned for only a out force out at second. This was the first review I have seen in person. The A’s scored a run in the inning.
Wilin Rosario hit a solo home run to tie the game for the second Rockies run. Above is Barnes sliding into third in the 3rd inning. The A’s did take the lead in the 2nd with a run. (3-2) A’s. Barnes did score in the inning to tie the game at 3.
The A’s scored 4 runs in the 4th inning and here are 3 of them which happened on a Lowrie double. Scoring Nick Punto from 3rd, Coco Crisp from 2nd and Josh Donalson from first. (7-5) A’s after 4 innings. The Rox did score 2 in the 4th on a Tim Wheeler home run.
Rockies 2013 1st round draft pick Jonathan Gray pitched He pitched the 5th and 2/3rds of the 6th inning. He gave up 3 runs on 5 hits. Chatwood left after the 3rd and he gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and walked 2.
In the bottom of the 8th there was a second review of a double play. This again at first and the call on the play remained as called on the field.
A’s player sliding into home for an out at home in the 7th inning.
Jonathan Gray being removed from the game in the 7th inning.
the Rockies pitching and a few in field mess ups did not help.
So that was it from Phoenix Municipal this was the last night home game for the A’s in this stadium before they move to Hohokam next year.
Me and Smitty were on the T.V. Photo Courtesy James from 5280 shirt shop thanks man!
I will be at the Friday Night game at Salt River Fields when the Mariners play the Rockies.
See You around.

Padres vs. Rockies
This could be my 34th game of the year it is a good possibility!
It being Sunday it means it was autograph Sunday. The best part was we did not have to get there extra early because of the bobble heads there was no bobble head today. This means I can also get more than one player!
The signers today was Michael Cuddyer who is in the Photo above. Matt Belise, Manny Corpas and Tyler Colvin. So started out in Matt Belise’s line because I had a photo of him that I printed up a few weeks ago. After getting that signed I headed to Manny Corpas’ line since he was just called up I needed him on my team 16×20 which I now only need Tulo on! since it was not a bobble head day the lines were not crazy and I was able to hit the trifecta getting Tyler Colvin as well I got him on a Cubs team card he was on and the last card I had left for him to sign he has recently been called up also but I did not need him on my 16×20 because I had him sign it at spring training. I did not think that he was going to the Springs! I did not get Michael Cuddyer to sign anything because I really did not have anything for him since he has signed well for the fans in the past and he was already on the 16×20.
Juan Nicasio was the starting pitcher for the Rockies he would sit the Padres down in order in the 1st Evereth Cabrera started by grounding out to Todd Helton at first. Alexi Amarista struck out and Jedd Gyorko flew out to Carlos Gonzalez.
Clayton Richards was the starting pitcher for the Padres Dexter Fowler started off with a single and was sac bunt over to second by Eric Young Jr. Carlos Gonzalez popped out for the second out of the inning.
Here he is watching it fly into the tunnel in left field.
Dexter Fowler picking up Tulo’s bat as he crosses the plate.
Would this be considered a five-lo!
This one with Dex while blowing a bubble.
The Rockies would not score again till the 3rd inning when Dexter lead off with a double and scored on a Cargo ground out to second base. He got to third on a Eric Young Jr. sac bunt once again. (4-0) Rox
In the top of the 6th I noticed something was happening here!
Juan Nicasio was perfect through 5 innings. No Runs or walks!
Not lasting long Nick Hundley took that away with the swing of the bat with a 2-2 count sending the ball and the perfect game into the pavilions. That would be 1 run for the Padres and they scored a second before the end of the inning. (4-2) Rox
The Padres would score 3 in the 7th and 2 in the 8th. They would take a 7-4 lead this is another game that should not have gotten away from them. Cameron Maybin hit a home run for the first run of the 7th off Edgmer Escolona who came in to pitch the inning. The next 2 runs were scored on a Mark Kotsay home run scoring himself and Headley still in the 7th. (5-4) Padres Edmer was taken out of the game because of injury. Wilton Lopez would finish the inning. Matt Belise came in and pitched the 8th for the Rockies. The 2 runs scored by the Padres were a result of a few hits strung together Kyle Blanks hit a single and was scored by Will Venerable who scored on a Denorfia single. (7-4) Padres
Cameron Maybin was limping a little after a Tulo GRDB in the 8th inning. Tulo would not score another runner left in scoring position. He got on base with one out and could not get past third.
The Rockies tied the game at 7th in the 9th. Tyler Colvin hit a single scoring Jonny Herrera and a Carlos Gonzalez double score Tyler and Dex. (7-7)
The game than went to the 10th the Padres failed to score and the Rockies need to act on this opportunity. Todd Helton started the inning off with a walk in a sac bunt attempt Yorvit Torrealba struck out on the foul bunt. Jonny Herrera hits a single to move Todd to second.
Jonny would get out at second on a Colvin hit to first.
Dex after reaching first base kneeling and clapping
Dex being interviewed after the game.
This is another game that should not have gotten away from the Rockies. I think this should have been a easier series for them than they made it. The Padres really made them work for their wins. It is great that they did battle back to win Fridays and this game, but both should have been pretty much over when the Padres came back to take the lead or tie the game. There once again was a lot of lost opportunities to score runs and get out of the defensive side of the innings.
Well That is it for this game and the series.
The Nationals are in town Tues thru Thurs.
See You at Coors!
Diamondbacks vs. Rockies
My 25th game of the season at Coors.
Today being a day game meant no batting practice but I does mean there is a good chance to get pitchers autographs. So after the stadium completely opened we headed down to the wall on the Rockies side of the field. There were a few player throwing and getting in their pregame warm ups and work mainly consisting of throwing, running and stretching. the starting pitcher from a few games ago may do a bullpen session. So after they were done Jeff Francis, Tyler Chatwood and Wilton Lopez stopped an signed. before the start of the game Wilin Rosario who did not start this game came out and signed for a while when he got to me I had him sign 2 photos one of him and Juan Nicasio and another of Him, Jerry Weinstein, Tyler Chatwood and Jim Wright. I also had Tyler sign it when he was signing. It was the first photo in the post about Saturdays game. http://roxaddict.mlblogs.com/2013/05/19/lincecum-fall-and-holds-onto-the-ball/
D.J LeMahieu also came over to sign because I had a photo to give him of a play he made last year. He signed a copy for me and another photo I had taken in the springs a few weeks ago.
Today Jorge De La Rosa started for the Rockies. He had a very good first inning facing only 3 batters and the last 2 outs were strike outs to Didi Gregorious and Paul Goldschmidt.
Trevor Cahill started for the Diamondbacks. After getting both Eric Young Jr. and D.J. LeMahieu both to fly out to right.
The Rockies would take a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
De La Rosa held the Diamondbacks hitless and scoreless in the 2nd. inning. He di walk the second batter of the inning Gerardo Parra, he remained on base as Martin Prado and Wil Nieves got out.
The Rockies and especially Cargo got on Cahill once again in the 3rd inning, D.J. LeMahieu hit a single with one out and Cargo than hit a triple scoreing LeMahieu. Cargo Scored on a wild pitch by Cahill.
Jorge was taken out of the game in the 6th inning after throwing 103 pitches, striking out 5, walking 2 and giving up 1 run in the 4th. The run was after a Cody Ross lead off single he than scored on a Will Nieves single 2 batters later.
Edgmer Escolona came into pitch the remainder of the 6th inning and the 7th.
In the 6th inning Dexter Fowler hit a ball down the line in right Rene Lacheman first questioned the call and then Walt Weiss headed out of the dugout after talking with the 1st base umpire Doug Eddings he went back to the dugout…… and came back out of the dugout and headed to home plate umpire and crew chief Dana Demuth.
The umpires than headed into review the play.
After a few minutes the ump’s headed back out to the field and called it a foul.
Dexter Fowler got on base by hitting a single and than got in Cahill’s head who threw over to first base a few times.
He was called safe as Didi Gregourious threw the ball to second baseman Josh Wilson thinking he was out.
Yorvit Torrealba tried to catch the D’backs off guard and tried to put down a bunt and popped it up to D’backs catcher Wil Nieves.
Another ex Rockies Will Harris came into pitch for the D’backs in the 8th inning.
Cargo also tried the bunt thing, it was fielded by Harris for the second out of the 8th inning. Cargo had a good shot of hitting of hitting another cycle with his first hits were the Home Run and Triple. he just did not finish it but had a great game getting 3 RBI’s and scoring twice. accounting for 3 of the 4 Rockies runs.
Matt Belise and Rex Brothers finished up the game both pitching an inning each. Belise the 8th and Brothers came out for the save. They each faced 3 batters.
Yorvit comes out and hugs brothers after Rex’s 2nd career save and first for this season.
With this win and the Giants losing to the Nationals there is now a 3 way tie for first place in the National League West. All 3 teams had Thursday off and the Rockies will be in San Francisco for a weekend series. The Diamondbacks are playing the Padres in Phoenix this weekend.
So the Rockies won 4-1 and this post is done!
Now Root Sports has recently announced that on July 1, Joel Klatt will be leaving them . We are starting once again the Bring Back Helmer campaign. We are asking everyone to visit there Facebook or twitter feed and kindly ask for them to hire on of the best Postgame announces Tom Helmer. We ask if you have a Helmer is my home boy shirts to start wearing them to the games as we try to get them to Re-Hire him.
There is also a Bring Back Helmer page already on facebook. her is it’s link.
and Root Sports Facebook page!
So lets get the ball rolling!!!!
As always see you at Coors!!!!
NY Yankees vs. Colorado Rockies
My 16th game of the Year.
Today I finally got my first Batting Practice baseball’s of the year! Yes, that is plural baseball’s. I caught both during the Rockies batting practice and both were hit by Troy Tulowitzki. The Yankees batting Practice was also pretty good but I did not get any from them but did have a chance on a few. During the Yankees batting practice I noticed that Mariano Rivera was signing on the wall in left field I looked at the crowd and realized I would never make it over and get an autograph so I stayed in the pavilions.
Yes, That is five rows of people pushing, climbing and leaning all to get their stuff signed by the best closer in the history of Major League Baseball. He actually signed 2 different time during batting practice once for 5-10 minutes before he headed out to the field and then for 40 minutes after at the end of batting practice.
After batting practice while Mariano Rivera was still signing I headed to the Rockies side of the field figuring I would never get to the Yankees wall. On the Rockies side Todd did sign and I had him sign my #17 ball that I had David Neid sign when the 1993 guys were here opening weekend. I did this because they are the only 2 # 17’s to play for the Rockies and I am figuring that they will be the only 2 after Helton retires.
Jorge De La Rosa, Yorvit Torrealba and Jim Wright head in from the bullpen.
Here is Jorge taking the mound and writing in the dirt.
Here is his first pitch to the Yankees Ichiro Suzuki. Ichiro lined out to Jonny Herrera at shortstop. Jorge pitched well and the only batter to get on base was Jason Nix who hit a single.
Hiroki Kuroda was the starting pitcher for the Yankees. He also pitched well Josh Rutledge did get a hit but was picked off on first base and Kuroda only faced 3 Rockies batters in the inning.
Chris Nelson who was recently traded to the Yankees made his Coors Field return only after a few game in NY. In the second inning he came to the plate with 2 outs he was hitless since going to the Yankees after this at bat he was still hit less in a twist of irony from the baseball gods he grounded out to his replacement on the Rockies Nolan Arenado.
Arenado throwing to Todd Helton on first base.
Nelson running to first.
Kuroda went a little high on a pitch to Arenado during his 2nd inning at bat. Arenado did end up grounding out to end the inning.
Ichiro at bat in the 3rd inning. He would hit a single with 2 outs.
He would steal 2nd base and then was left on second.
Yorvit Torrealba making contact in the 3rd inning. he did ground out for the first out of the 3rd inning. Jonny Herrera hit a double that looked like may get some get the Rockies a run. De La Rosa did ground out, Dexter Fowler would walk and Josh Rutledge would also ground out to end the inning.
Before the 4th inning an announcement was made to evacuate the upper deck and rockpile.
here is everyone leaving the upper deck
and the empty Rockpile.
They did continue the game without any rain delay. Not much had happened in the next few innings Jorge continued to pitch very well and so did Kuroda. Kuroda struck out 2 of the 3 batters he faced in the 4th. The Yankees Chris Stewart did hit a single in the 5th, but that was the only offence for either team in the inning.
With 2 outs in the 6th inning Josh Rutledge would hit a single to get on base.
Carlos Gonzalez would drop the bomb on Kuroda with this 2 run home run to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead. Michael Cuddyer and Todd Helton would both get on base in the inning after the Cargo home run and were left on base.
Cargo high fives Josh Rutledge after his 6th inning home run.
Matt Belise would come in t pitch for the Rockies in the 7th. Jorge went 6 innings not allowing a run, the Yankees only had 3 hits. Jorge struck out 2 and walked 1. Very good outing for him.
Nelson made contact in the 7th and looked like he may of had his first Yankees hit and well that did not happen he hit into a double play getting Brett Gardner out at second and himself at first. Gardner did come into the game in the 7th for the Yankees.
Josh Rutledge throwing to Herrera who was covering at second.
Who throw to Todd at First.
To complete the double play.
Brett Gardner taking a swing in the 9th to strike out against Rafael Betancourt to end the game for the Rockies win.
Torrealba dropped the ball
Torrealba celebrates the win in his very animated way jumping and flailing as he heads to the mound.
here he is shaking hands with Betancourt after the win. So The Rockies win TTTTHHHHEEEEE RRRRRROOOOOCCCCKKKKKKIIIIIEEEESSSS WWWIIIIIIIIINNNNNN!!!!!!
Had to do it. Well that is it for this one still have 2 more from this series. It did rain through most of this game. I am so over the bad weather for games this year at least it was not snow. The weather did not get any better the rest of the series either.
See You at Coors!
Cincinnati Reds Vs Colorado Rockies
Cincinnati Reds first Place in the National League Central by 3 games the Rockies second worst team in the Major Leagues!
O.K. before I start about the day Just want to give a S/O to the Rock Nation Crew who on Aug. 4th will be holding an Equipment drive.
Here is the info.
O.K. as always on a Sunday I headed to Coors early. I met up with X, Rachel, Julie and the rest of the Sunday morning crew. The gates were a little earlier today because instead of autograph Sunday it was photo day. This is a fun day that you get to hang on the field and have some fun interacting with the players and coaches. So when the gates opened we headed to the field and decided to head out to left field. While we were waiting for the players we had some fun and took some photos.
Shortly after the players started heading out and we noticed Carlos Gonzalez and Wilin Rosario heading to the section to our right. So we went over to them.
Here is me with Wilin Rosario.
Carlos Gonzalez and I.
After Betancourt The Deuce was not far behind. Here is Gary X with Him.
Then I got to take a photo with him.
Which was kinda interesting because I have been one of his biggest critics over the last few years and have not always had the best experiences when meeting him.. He was actual not a Deuce today. He was pretty cool, took his time and sociable with the fans. Most asked how he was and when will he be returning to the line up. He is doing well and should be back in early September.
To the left is a photo of Bo McLaughlin The Rockies new Pitching Coach.
Carney Lansford and Rich Dauer. Hmm in this photo can you figure out who does not have a World Series ring!!
A and X with Big Jim Wright!
Josh Roenicke and Rex Brothers.
Brooklyn in Da house. Adam “No Sleep To Brooklyn” Ottavino, Adam grew up in Park Slope Brooklyn.
Matt Reynolds with the card that X made for him with a photo I took.
X and A with Jorge De La Rosa. I asked Jorge when I should be back from having Tommy John Surgery and he said soon it has been about 14 months or so since he had it he said he is feeling good and rehab is going well.
To the right Rockies first base coach Glenallen Hill.
Manager Jim Tracy.
I did get a bunch more but this post is long enough others were Jerry Weinstein, Andrew Brown, Carlos Torres, Mike Ekstrom and Josh Fields.
It was a fun day with the players. I think it is really cool that the Rockies do this and it is a lot of fun. I also want to thank Matt Belise and Drew Pomeranz for doing a running man!
Drew is the first player to actually do it twice he also did it at fan fest in January.
After photo day was over it was time to get down to the normal business of the day. The pitches came out and did their normal warm ups.
Here is Jorge De La Rosa throwing to trainer Keith Duggar.
Also got a few autos one was Jim Tracy on my photo I have been having everyone sign. Wilin Rosario on a card. Drew Pomeranz on a Tulsa pocket schedule I got on my road trip.
It was then time to play ball. The starter for the Rockies was Jonathan Sanchez. This was his Coors debut. He was recently acquired in a trade with the Royals for Jeremy Guthrie.
This is his first Coors field pitch to the Reds lead off batter Zack Cozart. Cozart would pop out to second for the first out of the game.
Sanchez would walk the second batter Drew Stubbs. Who would than steal second.
Brandon Phillips would single which scored Stubbs from second, also tried to steal second but was not as succesful as Stubbs. Sanchez would strike out Todd Frazier for the final out of the inning. (1-0) Reds
Dexter Fowler on his quest for his record all-time leader in triples for the Rockies lead off the inning by not accomplishing that record, but reached base by walking. Josh Rutledge batted second.
He would hit his second MLB home run and first one at Coors. He has been a great addition to this team in the past few weeks with and including this game he is batting .379 with 5 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs in 58 at bats. He also has 22 combined hits and 8 RBI’s. (2-1) Rockies
Michael Cuddyer would also reach base with some hard running and a rushed throw from Zack Cozart at short that…
… pulled Miguel Cairo off first.
The Reds started the 2nd off aggressively Chris Heisey hit a lead off triple he would score on a sac fly by Cairo to center and tied the game at 2.
I am going to try to make this one brief the Reds would than score a run in the 3rd. The Rockies would not produce in the third Cuddyer and Rutledge would both get hits but would not score. The starting pitcher for the Reds Matt Latos would sit the Rockies down in order in the 4th.
Jonathan Sanchez would get really roughed up in the 5th. Cozart lead off with a single Stubbs hit a 2 Run home run. (5-2) Reds 2 batters later Jay Bruce would hit a solo shot. ( 6-2) Reds. After that Sanchez was removed from the game by manager Jim Tracy.
Here he is leaving the mound.
Carlos Torres would come into pitch for the Rockies and would strike out the first 2 Reds he faced in the 5th to get out of the inning. he would pitch the complete 6th and 7th ining. Facing 9 Batters in his 2/3rd innings. Striking out 5 and only allowing 1 hit. The hit was a double by Ryan Hannigan.
Dex sent one for a ride in the 5th which looked like it may have gone out but fell short and was caught by Jay Bruce on the right field track.
Mike Ekstrom pitched the 8th for the Rockies he did not have a great outing but he did let up an additional run on 2 hits and a Rutledge error at short. (7-2) Reds
Matt Reynolds pitched the 9th for the Rockies Striking out 2 of the 4 batters he faced. He did let up one hit to Stubbs.
The Rockies would attempt a 2 out rally in the bottom of the 9th, After Andrew Brown would get a single when he pinch hit in the pitchers spot. Josh fields who was brought in a double switch in the 6th would hit a single. Dex then grounded out to end the game. The Reds won 7-2 and swept the Rockies this weekend. It looks like my days of seeing home team walk off wins have ended now that I am back home. It is just something we are getting use to at Coors. Well that is it for this one besides the Rockies loss it was a great day hanging at Coors today. Once again thanks to the players and coaches for having a photo day for the fans.
Here is a few others from our time on the field.
Mary O and Me.
Me waiting for my marker back that Jim Tracy was signing with.
Then these to girls had this sign that said show me how to Tulo. So read their definition!
O.K. so now my Tulo dig for the post yes I have to go there. I thought Tulo-ing would be when there is 1 out with 2 runners on and he pops out to the first base or third base line. Now I only say this because I have seen several time this year. Maybe after this injury things will turn around for him with him.
Well that’s it for this one I should be at Coors most of the week as they face the Cardinals and Giants in the next week.
I may also have a surprise post mid-week. Covering something I normally would not cover!
and remember I can be followed on twitter: @RoxAddict
Diamondbacks Vs. Rockies
This was the first game of a series with the Diamondbacks. My third game of the season and the 4th home game for the Rockies. It was also Juan Nicasios first game back at Coors since his August game that he was hit by a comebacker and broke his neck.
Here is Juan warming up in the outfield before heading into the ball game.
Before the game the Rockies showed a video of Juans determination to get back to the field. Than they showed the people who help him get to where he is today including Keith Dugger the Rockies trainer, EMT’s and Dr’s who were involved not just getting back on the ball field but to survive an accident that most would not fully recover from.
Here he is taking the field with catcher Ramon Martinez.
This was Juans second start of the season but his first back at Coors Field. I had seen him pitch a few inning very well in Spring Training.
Here he tosses his warm up ball to the crowd.
Todd Helton leads the Rockies onto the field for the start of the game.
Michael Cuddyer heading to the outfield.
Juan Nicasio pitching to the Diamondbacks Willie Bloomquist for a strike.
Bloomquist would ground out to second for the first out of the game.Nicasio would than strike out Jason Kubel for the second out. Things started not going Nicasios way when he walked the next 3 batters resulting in 2 runs when Paul Goldschmidt would hit a single.
After the Rockies got off the field and grabbed the bats. They started to chip away at the D’backs lead with Dexter Fowler first HR of the season.(2-1) D’backs.
Nicasio regrouped in the 2nd sitting the D’backs down in order. Including his second strike out of the game.
Ramon Hernandez would running to first after hitting his 2nd inning HR to tie the game at 2.
Juan Nicasio stands on first after walking in the 2nd.
Nicasio was taken out after a rough 2nd inning. Than starting to get in trouble in the 3rd. He pitched 2 2/3 innings. threw 86 pitches with a very bad strike to ball ratio throwing 91 pitches, 42 for balls 49 for strikes. He did strike out 3, walked 5, struck out 3 and lets not forget letting up 6 runs 4 in the 3rd.
May not have been the best start in Nicasio’s career but it was once again a start in a big league uniform. Hope things continue to get better for this young pitcher who has been though more than anybody to return to the field. Good Luck Juan. personally I would like to see Juan be the first 20 game winner for the Rockies. Lets hope he goes big this year.
Esmil Roger, Yes Esmil not Ismail. Ismael is the whale in Moby Dick!
Pitched the next 2 innings. Here he is throwing his last out in the 5th inning to Todd Helton. He also struck out 3. with no walks and did not let up any additional runs.
The Rockies did tie up th game at 6 in the 4th after getting 2 runs in the 3rd and 4th.
Matt Belisle came in o pitch in the 6th.
Marco Scutaro throwing to Helton at first for the last out of the 7th.
Still think this is ridiculous…
…and after seeing them up close a little scary!!!
They actually ran from the Tunnel in left field to in front of the Rockies dugout. The 2 others I saw the stop in front of the visitors dugout.
I may have nightmares after this! probably something to do with a toothache and crazy dental products chasing after me.
Rex Brothers pitching in the 8th inning.
Scutaro catches a Bloomquist pop up in the 8th for the 2nd out of the inning.
Carlos Gonzalez dives back to first after hitting a single in the 8th.
He would then get to third on an overthrow from the pitcher to first base that hit the wall and ended up in right field.
With Carlos on third Tulo would come up and in his not so clutch way struck out. I still don’t understand how such a big numbers guy can not do it in the clutch.
So Todd Helton would come up and hit a 2 out double to score Cargo and that would lead to a Rockie lead to the Rockies 7 th run and take the lead 7-6.
Who’s clutch now bitch?
Todd Helton heads to second after his double and game winning RBI!
That was Todds 557 double of his career. He is currently 24th on the all time list for doubles 3 behind Eddie Murray and Jeff Kent.
Tulo throws to Scurtaro for the last out off the game.
Tulo and Hernandez high five after the win.
Todd Helton was the Shane Co. player of the game he is being interviewed by Jenny from Poop Wart or the Network not to be named!! I realized watching the Sat. night game while I was writing this she is a major blink as you can see in this photo as well. I do think she is improving and doing an Ok job.
Well that’s it for this one. The Rockies win 7-6, Great game Juan returned and Helton does what he does best show everybody how it is done.
Up next for me my first Sky Sox game of the year and most of the beginning of the week at Coors. See ya there.
Remember you can now follow me through my baseball adventures on Twitter: @ RoxAddict
Jason Hammel pitched for the Rockies and Josh Collmenter started for the D’backs.
Today was also the day that most of the September call ups are at Coors. Since the Sky Sox and Tulsa seasons are both over. So 2 of them started today one being Jordan Pacheco who is the starting catcher for the Sky Sox. He started at the revolving door we call third base.
Jordan Pacheco and Dexter Fowler during warm ups.
Also called up and starting today was Willin Rosario. Willin is a top prospect for the Rockies and spent the last 2 seasons as a Tulsa Drillers.
Jason Hammel and Willin Rosario Heading in for the start of the game.
The question as always when Jason Hammel pitches is which Jason Hammel will pitch the dominant throw for strike and make batters cringe or the whoops was that a 4 run inning Jason Hammel.
Hammel got out of the 1st inning letting up a run. (1-0) D’backs
The 1st. inning did not yield any runs for the Rockies neither did the 2,3,4…..
In the second inning the D’backs went down in order including Jason Hammel striking out Chris Young and a great play or maybe a bad running error. When John McDonald hit a ball to the gap in left center and tried to stretch a sure double into a not so quite a triple Seth Smith picked it up and threw it in to The Deuce who than threw it to Pacheco at 3rd. for the out.
The Rockies also went down in order in the 2nd. Giambi grounded out and Seth Smith struck out. The third batter of the game was Willin Rosario for his first Major League at bat. He hit to the warning track in center, but it was caught by the D’backs center fielder Chris Young.
Wilin Rosario fouls a pitch back behind the netting.
Jason Hammel struck out Justin Upton in the 4th. to lead of the inning. Than sat the next 2 down also. In the Rockies 4th Jordan Pacheco would have his first Major League at bat. The result was a little different then Rosario’s. With a 1/1 count he swung and hit to center field for a single. He would advance to third after Hammel would sac bunt and Fowler grounded out, but remain there and not score.
Jordan Pachecos first MLB hit.
Hammel would have another good inning in the 5th Striking out 2 but also walking 1.
The Rockies would have had a productive inning in the 5th. With another first, after Seth Smith lead of with a triple Rosario stepped to the plate and no it wasn’t his first MLB hit he lined out, but Pacheco would ground out Smith scored for Pachecos first MLB RBI!!!! To tie the game at 1.
Seth Smith slid into home plate after Pacheco hits the ball for Pachecos first RBI
The D’backs would than take the lead again in the 7th scoring 1 run, After a Goldschmidt lead off double, Gerrado Parra hit a single to score him 2 batters later.
Eric Young Jr. pinch hit in the 7th and hit a single.
D’backs Manager Kirk Gibson takes starter Collmenter out of the game in the 7th after Seth Smiths single.
Eric Young Jr. Sliding into home plate and was called out. I think he was safe but my call don’t matter. After seeing the play on TV after I got home it still looked like EYJ was safe.
The D’backs scored one, which on most nights would pretty much all they need to win the game., but not this night. Then there was the Rockies 8th. After Pacheco got out and Kouzmanoff came in to PH for Hammel, Fowler would hit a single. Kouzmanoff would be thrown out at second. Mark Ellis hit a single followed by Cargo single which score Dex to tie the game. Cargo and Ellis would advance a base on a wild pitch with The Deuce at bat. Once again he proved me wrong and hit another prove the Addict wrong 3 run HR.[Love when that happens]. (5-3) Rockies. That was the second time in 2 days he has done that. That was not it Ty Wiggington PH in the fifth spot also hit a single Seth Smith than hit another triple to score Wiggy. (6-3) Rosario walked to get on base for the first time in his MLB career with a walk. Pacheco also hit a single for another RBI his second. (7-3)Rockies. Kouzmanoff came up for the second time in the inning and was hit by a pitch. The next batter Fowler walked and scored Rosario from 3rd.(8-3) Rockies. Ellis ended the inning flying out to center. After 2 out the Rockies sent 10 batters to the plate after their were 2 outs and a total of 13 batters in the inning. Scoring 7 runs this was one of the best innings of baseball I have seen from this team all year, it was great that they were able to put a good rally together.
Dex Scoring the first run in the 8th.
The Deuces HR swing in the 8th
The ball was hit to the near empty pavilions
The Deuce steps on home after the 3 run HR, This time their was no hug for Cargo but a lot of High-Five!!
Wiggington scoring after Seth Smiths 2nd triple of the game.
Pacheco reaching base for his 2nd MLB hit and RBI.
This was probably the best game of the season for Jason Hammel he has pitched consistent occasionally but he was right on keeping his pitch count low for him, not having the blow up inning and striking out (????). Pitching 7 complete innings. In an interview awhile ago after totally falling apart one game he said that is just part of the enigma that is Jason Hammel well this game was a different part. It was the lights out, I am going to get the job done part of the enigma of Jason Hammel. Great game. unfortunately he did not get the win. Matt Belise did, for his 10th win of the season. One more he will be tied for all time wins for the Rockies from the bullpen with 11. Which was done by Gabe White in 2000.
The Rockies won. It really did not make a difference in the standings, But it was agreat game. Hope they can keep this up. If we are not going to win the division or get in the playoffs make it exciting for the rest of the season. Oh and once again we got tacos!!!!!! I Won’t be at the next 2 against the Reds, But will be at Coors on Sunday.
Dinger celebrating the win!!!
The Rockies celebrate the win!
