Kansas City Royals vs. Colorado Rockies
Game 2 of series.
This was the second game of the series, I was at the first game of the series somehow I did not take my camera to the game and had no photos so did not do a post. The Royals did win the first game 7-4 Tyler Matzek started game 1 for the Rockies and had a pretty good outing till the 7th inning when the Rockies gave up 3 runs and K.C. too a 4-2 lead. Rex Brothers came in in the 8th and once again melted down, this time after getting 2 outs to the first 2 batters and then faced 6 more batters and let up 3 runs the Royals had a 7-2 lead. The Rockies got 2 back on a Drew Stubbs home run. James Shields started for the Royals and only gave up 2 runs and one was in the first to give the Rockies a lead in the first and the second was a Nolan Arenado homerun in the 5th.
This series I got 3 baseballs during batting practice 2 on Tuesday and 1 on Wednesday. The Tuesday game both came off of Brandon Barnes one was a bouncer that I picked up and caught the second. The third was hit by D.J. LeMahieu hit about 4 rows behind me a bounced back to me.
The second game Jorge De La Rosa was the starter for the Rockies after a lead off walk to Christian Colon he struck out Omar Infante and walked the 3rd batter Billy Butler, Josh Willingham hit into a double play to end the inning.
Danny Duffy started for the Royals Josh Rutledge started the bottom of the 1st with a single and stole second he was stranded at second as the next 3 batters got out.
The Royals scored the first run of the game in the 2nd a lead off home run by Alex Gordon this gave the royal a 1-0 lead. They took a 2 -0 lead 4t after Willingham started off the inning with double and scored 2batters later on a Erik Kratz sac fly to right.
Nolan Arenado got things started the bottom of the 4th off with a triple and scored on a Wilin Rosario sac fly to center. 2-1 Royals.
Matt McBride started his first game since being called up from Colorado Spring. He came up in the 6th inning with base’s loaded and 2 outs and was put to the big league test and I think he passed! He hit a grand slam home run and the Rockies took a 5-2 lead.
This was his 3rd career home run and 1st Grand Slam.
Here he is celebrating with the 3 runners that were on base.
With the 5-2 lead La Troy Hawkins came into pitch the 9th after a very good game by Jorge De La Rosa who pitched 8 innings Giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, he did walk 3 but also struck out three. He throw 103 pitches. It was great to see a starting pitcher come to bat for himself in the 7th inning! Not something we get to see much as Rockies fans. Hawkins got all 3 Royals out in the 9th and the Rockies won this game with the 5-2 to split this 2 game series with the Royals.
The Rockies celebrate this win.
Matt McBride gets the water bucket from teammate Charlie Blackmon.
That is it for this one. After a off day on Thursday the Rockies will have a 3 game series vs. the Miami Marlins.
See you at Coors.
Oklahoma City Redhawks Vs. Colorado Springs Sky Sox
The Redhawks are the triple A Affiliate of the Houston Astros.
This was my first game to the Springs this year.
This day started really early for me I left my house at 7:15 in the morning to go snowboarding at Keystone. After 19 lift rides and 30,000+ vertical feet and 5 hours of snowboarding I took the 135 Mile drive from Keystone, Colorado to Colorado Springs. I took about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
It being Jackie Robinson Day I got on chair 42. It took about 4 runs to sink up and be able to get on this chair 3.
After arriving and getting my ticket I did some early Easter Egg hunting out behind Security Service Field!
found 10 Baseballs Most Minor League Practice balls and a few Pacific Coast League baseballs.
After waiting for Jared to arrive we headed in to the stadium.
Christian Friedrich was warming up in the bullpen. I was able to get Wilton Lopez on my Rockies team project since he was sent down a few days ago. It was then time for the game to start.
Christian Friedrich throwing the first pitch to the Redhawks Austin Wates.
He struck out swinging.
Friedrich would give up 2 hits before getting the second out of the inning also a strike out to John Singleton. After a Error by Ryan Wheeler at third and 2 more singles the Redhawks scored 3 runs and Friedrich got out of the inning after facing 8 batters. 3-0 Redhawks
The starting pitcher for the Redhawks was Michael Foltynewicz. He also started the game with a strike out his was looking to Jason Pridie.
Tim Wheeler would hit a double but would not score, the Sky Sox did get a second base runner on base it was Matt McBride who walked. The Redhawks got the best of Friedrich in the second Ronald Torreyes started the inning with a single followed by a Wates single. Friedrich walked the bases loaded, walking Gregorio Petit. The fourth batter of the inning was George Springer who hit a grand slam to give the Redhawks a 7-0 lead. Springer was called up to the Astros the next day and made his MLB Debut he went 1 for 5 with a walk in the game against the Kansas City Royals. In this game he went 3 for 4 with a walk.
After the Springer homer Friedrich settled down and got the next 3 batters out to end the inning. he then pitched well the next 2 innings sitting down 9 Redbirds batters in a row. He would give up a lead off double to singleton in the 5th who would score and the Redhawks had a 8-0 lead.
Mike McKenry got things started for the Sky Sox in the 5th with a double. He would score on a Tim Wheeler single.
Wilton Lopez came into pitch for the Sky Sox in the 6th inning.
Christian Friedrich left the game after 5 innings giving up 8 hits, 8 runs, walking 1 and striking out 4. After settle in and falling behind the 5 runs he did then have 2 good innings. It still looks like he needs some work but looks like he will be back to the way he pitched 2 years ago soon.
Matt McBride led off the 6th for the Sky sox and here he is diving back to first. He would get out at second on a ball hit by Ben Paulsen. The Sky Sox did go on and score 2 runs in the inning.
1 on a Kyle Parker triple that scored Paulsen. Parker then scored on a McKenry single 8-3 Redhawks.
The Redhawks scored another run to give them a 9-3 lead in the 7th. The Sky Sox then had a very good inning in the 7th. The first 2 on a Tim Wheeler 2 run home run, ben Paulsen then hit a homer of his own with McBride on base. Kyle Parker hit one for him self to go back to back with Paulsen. 9-8 Redhawks.
Rudy Owens came into pitch for the Redhawks in the 6th and was responsible for 5 of the Sky Sox runs the 2 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th. Chia-Jen Lo pitched the rest of the 7th inning for the Redhawks and was responsible for the 2 other runs in the 7th.
The Redhawks scored 2 more in the 9th and the Sky Sox scored 1 more in the bottom of the 9th. They also had some base runners in the 8th but were unable to score them. That was it for this one the Sky Sox lost 11-9. This was a pretty good game and the Sky Sox did have a few opportunities to get the lead in this game and like the Rockies had trouble getting the timely runs. Tim Wheeler did come up a triple short of the cycle going 3 for 5 with 3 RBI’s. Mike McKenry also hit well also going 3 for 5 and he had 1 RBI.
After the game I took the hour and a half drive back home, in total I drove about 300 miles and spent 5 and a half hours just driving this day. But it was a great day doing 2 of my favorite things to do in Colorado Snowboarding and Baseball.
So that is it for this one I will be back at Coors on Friday when the Rockies return from there road trip to San Fran and San Diego.
See You Their!
Angels Vs. Rockies
Salt River Fields at Talking stick
Last 2014 Spring Training game for me.
Today was the last day for a bunch of us at Salt River Fields. We decided to see how we could do on the Angels side of the field to see if we could get Albert Pujols, Mike Trout and others Smitty needed a Copy of Don Baylor’s book signed.
So while we were waiting I thought we should take some cheesy baseball card pose photos!
Smitty went with the foreground baseball!
EB went with the pondering pitcher!
O.K. a few minutes later the team had arrived and it was time to play the game see if we would get anything signed. Most of us were unsuccessful. Smitty did get his book signed.
It was then time for the game we all love and came to see and that was baseball on this awesome spring afternoon at Salt River Fields.
Mike Trout was the second batter for the Angels he struck out for the second out of the first inning. Albert Pujols would hit a single and David Freese would end the inning striking out to end the inning.
Jered Weaver pitching to Corey Dickerson, Corey would strike out. Drew Stubbs followed with a double.
The next batter Carlos Gonzalez hit a 2 run home run to score himself and Stubbs and the Rockies took a quick lead.
The Angels would score a run in the 2nd on a Howie Kendrick solo home runs. (2-1) Rockies
In the 3rd inning the Rockies challenged a play on the field. After hitting a lead off single in the inning Corey Dickerson was caught stealing, after the review the call on the field did not change.
The Rockies scored a third run in the 4th inning to give them a 3 to 1 lead when Juan Nicasio contributed to the cause with a single to score Josh Rutledge.
Manny Corpas pitching to Pujols in the 5th inning. The Angels score a total of 3 runs in the inning. The first on a Matt Long lead off home run. Long came into the game as a replacement for Brennan Boesch when he was ejected from the game in the second inning after being called out on strikes in the 2nd inning. The Angels took a 4-3 lead.
Gregg Burke pitching for the Rockies in the 9th inning.
Drew Stubs hit a Hit a double in the 9th inning to score Christian Adames.
Christian Adames rounds third.
And slides into home to score the tying run for the Rockies.
Matt McBride hitting a single to lead off the 10th inning for the Rockies.
Ben Paulsen hitting a single to give the Rockies a runner on first and second. Ryan Wheeler would advanced McBride to third and Paulsen was out at 2nd.
with the winning run on third and one out the Angels set up a defense I have only once before. They played with only 2 outfielders and set up with their left fielder in the infield. Jason Pridie hit a grounder and the set up worked for the Angels. The ball was hit to Matt Long who was the left fielder to the short stop Andrew Romaine for the out at second and then to first for a double play to end the game in a 4-4 tie.
The first time I had seen this play was in Ashville in 2011 against the drive and Corey Dickerson hit the ball over the infield for a Tourists win! This was the second tie for the Rockies in a row. The next day as the group of us were traveling home the Rockies tied for the 3rd straight game against the Dodgers.
One last look at the Fields before I left.
Here is most of the group that was at the game.
After the game a few of us went out to dinner for Rachel and my birthday.
Than after diner Smitty and I decided to go to the Baseball City Experience at The Convention Center. We knew that Jose Conseco was signing and we decided to head over. It was only to 8 and we arrived at about 7:30. Since it was almost over they lets us in for free.
When we arrived there was not many people there and Jose was pitching to kids on a field they had to play wiffle ball.
I was able to get a ball autographed
And get a photo with him. Smitty had taken 2 photos I blinked in 1 and Jose was looking away in this one. Getting that his auto was defiantly great way to end a trip and an awesome day.
The Next day we headed home.
Along the way we made several stops one was to Winslow, Arizona
Here is the group of us “Standing on a corner….”
Well that is the end of Spring Training for me I had a great time with a great group of friends. Looking foreword to another great season with everyone. I know that no matter what happens with the Rockies I know it will be a fun season.
See you at Coors for Opening Day 2014!!!!
Salt River Fields @ Talking Stick
Game 1 Reds vs. Rockies
Game 2 Diamondbacks Rockies
So once again the day started early first I got up before 6 and started the post from the day before than I had to get ready to get to the stadium and got there probably a little after 9. I met up with EB who only need 1 person to get to sign a baseball to get the 40 man roster and I am not sure who he needed!!!!!
I think it was Jorge or Jhoulys or some possibly Boone Logan not quit sure!
Mary was hanging out before work and took a photo next to the fence she has been asking for since Salt River Fields opened in 2011.
This year the added it! We now call it Mary’s fence!
The pitchers were out throwing some bullpens that is Christian Friedrick and Boone Logan on the mound.
Christian Friedrick throwing.
While we were waiting for players to get done we had a catch of our own. (Photo Courtesy of Mom)
The Rockies this year are having and autograph table on the concourse the signers today were Dustin Garneau and Rex Brothers.
Today Jared and Rachel were at Salt River Fields the came down yesterday and was at the Rockies vs. Cubs. Here is a photo of Jared with Mom.
It was an OK day for autographs here is Charlie Blackmon signing.
Brett Anderson was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. Here he is pitching to the Reds lead-off batter Brandon (touched my ball) Phillips. Explanation: Last year at the World Baseball Classic Brandon was signing autographs and I threw my ball to him he missed it and it fell in the dugout so he signed another autograph or so, picked up my baseball and tossed it back without signing it! Here is a link to that original post: http://roxaddict.mlblogs.com/2013/03/14/world-baseball-classic-usa-vs-italy/
Since one of my awesome friends got me a autographed ball this year!
So Phillips lead off by grounding out to 3rd. Than Ramon Santiago hit a single. Anderson than struck out Joey Votto followed by Ryan Ludwick grounded out.
Mike Leake was the starting pitcher for the Reds. Charlie Blackmon grounded out by hitting back to Leake. Charlie Culberson got on base by hittin a single. Michael Cuddyer would fly out to right and the inning would end when Culberson did not get back to first and ended the inning for the Rockies.
The Reds got on the board in the 2nd. Chris Heisey started the inning with a double and scored on a Devin Mesoraco sac fly to right field and Heisey scored (1-0) Reds
Matt McBride trying to leg out a hit during his second inning at bat. he was the second out of the inning.
Josh Rutledge taking a pitch for a ball during his at bat.
Jason Pridie takes a lead off second base he was the only Rockies runner in the second inning.
Josh Rutledge also trying to leg out a hit during his 2nd inning at bat. He was out and ended the inning.
The Rockies score their first run in the 3rd inning. D.J.eMahieu lead off the 3rd with a walk and scored on a Charlie Culberson double to left. This run tied the game at 1. The above is a photo of Michael Cuddyer taking a swing that ended up flying out to center field to end the 3rd inning.
Sam LeCure was the second pitcher of the game for the Reds he pitched the 4th inning for them.
The Rockies did pick up and additional run in the 5th inning. Once again LeMahieu would get on base to lead off the inning this time with and single and scored on a single by Charlie Blackmon. (2-1) Rockies
Wilin Rosario scores the Rockies 3rd run of the game. Wilin hit a single to get on base and scored on Matt McBride single. (3-1) Rockies
Louisville Bats Legend Corky Miller in the 7th inning. I saw that somewhere I did not make up the Louisville Bats Legend! I have seen him play in Louisville 2 years ago on my road trip. He grounded out in the inning.
Jordan Pacheco field a softly hit ball by Roger Berndina for the second out of the 7th inning.
Matt McBride makes the grab at first for the Berdina out.
Adam Ottavino pitching in the 8th inning.
Tyler Matzek came into the game to pitch in the 9th inning. The first batter he pitched to and walked was Chris Nelson. Nelson is an invitee for the Reds this year after being with the Rockies, Yankees and Angels last season.
Matzek walked 4 consecutive batters the third batter he walked was Louisville Bats Legend Corky Miller! OK that is it for the use of that dead horse!
Matzek was than removed from the game. He has been known to have control issue through his Minor League career, But when he is on he can be totally lights out. Not this day.
The Rockie got out of the inning with a double play. Here is Rosell Herrera turning the double play at second.
That was the end of the game and the Rockies won this one 3-2. After this game we had to leave the stadium and get ready for the second game of the day at Salt River Fields. Between games I headed to the Diamondbacks side to watch their batting practice. I go to that side because there major league practice field is more accessible than the Rockies side. After dropping my bag off I headed back to my car to get some stuff for the Diamond backs to sign. Along the way I found and Easter egg. That was the 4th ball of the trip. I got back just in time for the end of the Diamond backs BP and was able to get Marc Trumbo to sign a card and Martin Prado.
After meeting back up with EB we headed back into the stadium.
Before the game I was able to get some more autos on my team project and in my Spring Training magazine. The signers on the concourse were Mike McHenry and Gregg Burke. I had McHenry sign a locker tag that I got at Fanfest from last year when he was with the Pirates. I was also able to get Nolan Arenado on a ball that he tossed up last year that I caught during warm ups.
The Second game was against the Diamondbacks. I did not really take many photos this game I think I took a total of 31 photos the whole game slightly because I was tired and second every now and than I just want to hang out and watch a game which is what I may try to do this year every few games so may not be posting every game I am at this year.
Pedro Hernandez was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. He allowed 1 hit in the 1st it was a double by Aaron Hill.
Wade Miley was the starting pitcher for the Rockies.
The Diamondbacks got on the board in the 3rd inning with a solo shot by Aaron Hill. They scored a second run in the 4th inning. Martin Prado scored on a Chris Owing single.
Tulo leaving the game after being hit by a pitch in the 4th inning. He left the game because his pride was hurt and sent for X-Rays and they have came back negative, negative for a heart, brain or personality!
The Rockies first run came in the 5th inning when Michael McHenry hit a double scoring Paul Janish.
putting together this post for 3 hours and need to get functioning!
Another great day at the ballpark.
The next game will be at Phoenix Municipal when the Rockies play the A’s.
See you around Phoenix halfway through this trip!
Tacoma Rainiers vs. Colorado Springs Sky Sox
Third Game in the Springs this year 43rd with Coors.
Before we entered the stadium we did take a lap around the stadium to see if we could find some baseballs but we did not look like there was no batting practice again.
While the sun was out at Security Service Field clouds loomed in the distance. When I left Thornton there were tornado warnings near the airport and the tornado sirens were going off as I was going through Aurora. It did not rain in the Springs or did we not see any on our way down. It was slightly chilly and windy during the game. It was about 60 at the end of the game.
This game I attended because I forgot my camera and autograph stuff for a few weeks ago when I saw the same 2 teams play in the Springs. This time I brought it and I did get to have Howard Johnson sign a Shea Stadium ball and a card. So I finally got my Hojo autographs. I did have more cards but he only signed 2 items. Above he is handing over the scorecards and going over the ground rules with Glennallen Hill and the Umpires.
This is the Howard Johnson Autographed Shea Stadium Ball.
Chris Volstad started for the Sky Sox he was up with the Rockies briefly last week but was brought back down.
The Rainiers first batter Abraham Almonte grounded out to Ryan Wheeler to lead off the game.
Almonte running down the first base line, while Ben Paulsen catches the ball hit to Ryan Wheeler for the first out of the game. The I would have one runner in the inning Carlos Peguero who walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Erasmo Ramirez was the starting pitcher for the Rainiers. He has pitched 5 games for the Seattle Mariners this year. Not sure if this was a rehab assignment or he was sent down but he pitched really well. Ramirez also faced 4 batters in the 1st. He struck out Charlie Blackmon, Time Wheeler grounded out before Corey Dickerson was the first Sky Sox runner of the inning he reached on an error by Leury Bonilla. Dickerson would remain on base when Matt McBride grounded out to end the 1st for the Sky Sox.
Dickerson running to first after Bonilla’s error.
The Rainiers scored a run in the 2nd. Stefan Romero hit a double to lead off the game. He scored batters later on a Rich Poythress single the inning ended when Brandon Bantz hit into a double play.
Lars Davis putting down a bunt with Hernan Iribrren on second.
here he is running to first as Brandon Bantz fields the ball. He did get out but as the guy behind me said a few time during the game “at least he advance the runner that is the important thing”. Iribarren did advance to third he was also left on third after Blackmon hit a very shallow hit to right and Time Wheeler grounded out.
There was not too much action with Volstad and Ramirez pitching pretty well. This is Charlie Culbertson sliding into third in the 5th inning. He did score on a Iribbaren sac bunt which got him to second on a Ramirez throwing error. He also scored for a Sky Sox 2-1 lead.
Between innings Tanya did one of the on field contests she played fish Or Not a Fish. She had the word Fandango and she guessed correct it was not a fish it is a dance. She won as they say it cold hard cash!!!
The Sky Sox continued to score in the 6th inning Dickerson started it off with by walking and would advance on another error by Ramirez pick off attempt. He would score on a McBride double. (3-1) Sox
The above photo is of McBride sliding into second for his run scoring double. Alex Liddi did bobble the throw from left. McBride would score on a Culbertson single. (4-1) Sox
Glennallen Hill took Volstad out of the game with 1 out and 2 runners on after giving up base hits to Stefan Romero and Leury Bonilla.
Volstad leaving the field.
Nick Schmidt came into pitch for the Sky Sox. He face Carlos Poythress who hit into a double play to end the inning. Schmidt also pitched the 8th inning.
Charlie Blackmon got on base in the 7th and stole second base. The inning was over when Tim Wheeler struck out.
2 Wheelers Ryan in the dugout and Tim at the plate. it would have been cooler if they were playing the Las Vegas 51’s and Zach wheeler was the pitcher. Zach actually made his MLB debut this night for the Mets in Atlanta.
Sox the Fox gets the crowd going as Bobby Cassevah pitches in the 9th inning.
Culberson fields the grounder for the final out of the game.
Iribarren makes the catch to get Alex Liddi out at second to end the game.
Lars Davis and Bobby Cassevah high-five after the 4-2 win.
That is it for this game in the Springs pretty productive day for autograph and a good game for the Sky Sox with the win. Beside the Howard Johnson autographs I got Aaron Cook on 2 cards, Volstad on a photo and a Rainiers catcher Jason Jaramillo on a card. Did not have too much with me to sign so that was pretty good.
Well Leaving for my road trip got things to get done before I go see you around.
Confirmed tickets for Boston and should be starting the trip with a game in St. Louis against the Rangers. Really wanted to see the Cubs series can’t make it for that game.
See you around!
Tacoma Rainers vs. Colorado Springs Sky Sox
Security Service Field, Colorado Springs
2nd Sky Sox game of the year.
For the last few years I said I would like to go to a baseball game with just my ticket and nothing else. If anybody has seen me at game I carry a backpack that weighs about 25-30 Lbs. It is loaded with Camera Equipment, baseballs, a glove, baseball cards, photos, snacks, a water bottle and other accessories for all the above.
Normally when I go to the Springs and other minor league stadiums I reduce the amount of stuff I bring and put it into a smaller bag that I have. Since last year I have been using a laptop looking bag. So I packed the bag with a few baseballs, camera and cards. As I was walking out of my house without realizing I grabbed the wrong laptop bag and brought the one I use for work in it which well doesn’t have anything I need in it except a blue pen. I did not know I grabbed the wrong bag till I got to Security Service Field which is about 7o miles from my house. so I was not driving home to go get it I would miss most of the game and it would cost way to much in gas to go get the correct bag. So I made the best of it. One thing that did suck about this was I was planning on having one of my favorite players as a kid autograph a few cards and a Ball. Which I now did not have. The player was Howard Johnson who played for the Mets when I was a kid and is now the hitting coach for the Tacoma Rainers.
I did get to meet him and took a photo but did not have anything for him to autograph. Amy did have him sign a Seattle Mariners team card and gave it to me which was cool but still was not the Shea Stadium ball I wanted him to sign or the baseball cards I had since I was younger. I was great being able to meet him but wish I had my items autographed. So I looked at the schedule for when the Rainers were back at the Springs and I have another chance to get my stuff signed on June 18th. It was the day I was planning to leave for my road trip but I am going to delay it a day or 2 so I can get my autographs!
It was interesting not having anything for players to autograph including a few photos I had printed earlier in the day for Sky Sox players and stuff I needed Aaron Cook to sign who I also got to say hi to after the game. I have a few cards to finish a few Rockies sets and a 2010 team ball for him to sign which was also in the bag.
Drew Carpenter was the starting pitcher for the Sky Sox. Here he is with Lars Davis heading in from the bullpen. All the photo in this post were taken with my phone. this is the first time I am entirely putting together a post with photo just from my phone.
Here are the line ups for the to teams. Sky Sox on left and Rainers on the right.
Drew Carpenter throwing the first pitch to the Rainers Dustin Ackley. carpenter would get the Rainers out in order in the 1st.
Since I did not have my camera and I didn’t need to take photos I decided to go get a $2.00 beer. Which is basically a small cup of Coors or Coors Light from kegs that must have been left out in the sun since last week and than re cooled before the game. So I missed the Sky Sox 1st inning 1 the line was slightly wrong and 2 they had trouble with the keg pressure and they were not pouring. Thanks to Jared who also keeps scor I was able to catch up on my scoring!
The staring pitcher for the Rainers was Jeremy Bonderman.
Tyler Colvin hit a single in the 4th inning and scored the Sky Sox first run 2-1 Rainers.
Matt McBride lead off the 6th inning with a game tying the game at 2. Tyler Colvin hit a solo home run to break the tie and the SkySox took 3-2 lead. So I guess that was a TY Break Home run!
The Rainers would score 3 runs in the 7th 1 by a Mike Zunino home run, a walk to Brad Miller who also scored . The third run was scored by Corey Paterson. The Rainers took a 5-3 lead.
The Skysox did try to come back and did score 1 in the 7th but fell short. The Final score was 5-4 Tacoma.
The Rainers celebrating their win over the first place Skysox. The Rainers and play 3 more games this week.
It was a interesting night in the springs. Not doing my normal thing, but a great night anyway. got to meet one of my favorite players as a kid and got to just enjoy a game with out all the other distractions!!! Pesky camera and autograph stuff!!!!
I did manage to help Amy and Jared with a few autographs I got a Rainers player for Amy and 2 cards for Jared a drew Pomeranz and a Glenallen Hill card signed.
So that is it from the Springs the Rockies are returning to Coors this week and I will be there starting Wednesday against the Houston Astros who they just split 2 games with them in Houston. This weekend is the first trip the L.A. Dodgers will be at Coors this year.
I will see you there!
The 2 culprits in me grabbing the wrong bag! The one on the left is full with baseball stuff the one on the right with random work stuff!
Security Service Stadium
Omaha Stormchasers vs. Colorado Springs Sky Sox
The Stormchasers are the triple A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
This is my first game of the year down in the Springs.
After turning around twice once because I came to the conclusion that shorts was not a great idea and that I needed a jacket and the second because I forgot the jacket. I was finally on my way to the Springs for the first game down there this year. Like always I got down there about 2 hours before the start of the game I leave Denver early one so I don’t hit traffic 2 is to go see if I can find baseballs or as we like to call them Easter eggs, basically it is just searching for baseballs outside the stadium. There was no batting practice today and the tarp was still on the field, so I thought I may not find any but you never know. So I walked around the fields outfield walls and did not find any I than decided to walk along the stream that runs behind the stadium and found the first Easter egg of the day and the year.
It was about 2 feet up on the bank of the stream. I actually walked past it the first time past, which happens often while searching out there. The tarp was on the field when I got there. There was no batting practice so no chance of getting any others hit out. So I went and sat in my truck before getting my tickets and head into the stadium. I immediately headed down to the first baseline for autographs. I needed a few Sky Sox on my Rockies photo I have been working on since they were with the Rockies at the beginning of the season. I got Tyler Chatwood and Ryan Wheeler were 2 of the 4 I needed. I also got a few cards signed by Tim Wheeler, Drew Pomeranz and Tyler Colvin. I also brought my 2010 Rockies team ball with hopes of getting Aaron Cook, but he was on the disabled list and was not there. I did get Manny Corpas who I also needed on the ball . Another person I needed on my photo was Chris Volstad who was the starting pitcher for the Sky Sox.
Here he is throwing the first pitch to the Stormchasers Irving Fulu. Fulu started the game with a single and would score 2 batters later when Johnny Giavotella hit a double. The Stormchasers would score 2 runs in the inning.
The first pitch by Volstad was a strike to Fulu.
The last out and 8th batter of the first inning for the Stormchasers was Ex-Rockie and Sky Sock Willy Taveras.
He would ground out to Short Stop Tommy Manzella.
Manzella throwing to Ben Paulson at first for the out.
Nate Adcock was the starting pitcher for the Stormchasers.
He walked Cory Dickerson and Dickerson got into his HEAD! HEEE”SS IN YOOOO HHHEEEAAADDD!!!!
D.J. Lemahieu hit a ball to the Stormchasers short stop who had a little trouble with a bounce.
Advancing Dickerson to second.
Dickerson and Lemahieu would both score to tie the game.
Tyler Colvin ended the inning grounding out to the short stop who got Ben Paulson out at second. No relevance just tried to get Tyco into the post!
Here is a random shot of a bunch of players in the dugout.
Somewhere around the second inning Amy, Jared and Rachel showed up. I did not take to many photos for a few innings. The Stormchasers got 2 runs in the 3rd both were home runs the first hit by Giavotella and the second by Chad Tracy. Tracy was also a former Sky Sox player. The Sky Sox responded with 3 runs of their own the first a home run by Matt Mcbride. Ben Paulson who hit a double would score and so would Tyler Colvin who walked to get on base. Another home run was hit by the Stormchasers Max Ramirez in the 5th inning. In the 6th Corey Dickerson hit a solo shot of his own.
Manny Corpas came into the game for the Sky Sox in the 6th inning. Replacing Volstad who went 5 innings giving up 5 runs, 9 hits including 3 home runs. he did strike out and walked 2. Corpas pitched 3 inning striking out 3 and not giving up any runs or hits. The only 2 base runner were an error at short hit by Fulu in the 6th and a walk to Chad Tracy 8th.
Gregg Golson steals 2nd in the 7th inning after he was walked by the Stormcahasers Evan Teaford. Teaford only lasted 2/3 of an inning. He replaced Adcock who pitched 6 innings and gave up 6 runs, 10 hits, striking out 3 and giving up 2 home runs to the Sky Sox.
Golson was safe at second. The score was 6-5 Sky Sox at this point. The Sky Sox scored 3 more runs in the 8th on Matt Mcbrides 2nd home run of the night, he had a great night going 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a single. They went on to win 9-5. after the game we hung around for a little while to see if we could get some more autographs and I ended up getting the other 2 Sky Sox players I needed on my Rockies photo Rob Scahill and Chris Volstad. I also got a few cards signed by Volstad.
A few other guys including D.J. Lemahieu stopped, but I did not have anything for most of them. Amy did get a photo I took of D.J. last year signed from a double play last year. It was a ball hit by Matt Kemp and that is Mark Ellis sliding into second. He said that was actually his favorite play he made last year.
The Sky Sox are now 23-14 and in first place by a half game in the Pacific Coast North Division.
That is it from the Springs the Rockies and I will be returning to Coors for a 4 game series against the first place S.F. Giants and 3 against the Diamondback. This is a very important home stand for the Rockies. The Giants are currently leading the National League west by a game and a half over the Diamondbacks and 2 over the Rockies.
See you at Coors!
Another against the Diamondbacks!
My 59th game of the year.
Do I really need a photo of the Helmets or scoreboard. I think not it is the 4th game of this series!!!!
Today I arrived a little late to batting practice but missed nothing. The Rockies stopped as people entered the pavilions. So I got there as the Diamondbacks got started. They hit a bunch of home runs to the pavilions. I had a bunch hit close but not close enough. I finally got the last ball of batting practice which bounced of the bleachers and I bobbled but got it! It was not a pretty snag but it was a snag. This was my 26th of the season.
So I headed by the Diamondbacks dugout.
Mike and his son. They are regulars on the weekends at Coors they travel from Aspen every week the Rockies are home.
Tyler Chatwood throwing the first pitch once again to the Diamondbacks Adam Eaton.
Chatwood sat the D’backs down in order just as Jeff Francis did the game before.
Instead of the lead off batter Josh Rutledge getting hit he flew out but then Trevor Cahill hit Charlie Blackmon.
Time out to play can you find the Rockpile Ranter!!!!
Jordan Pacheco hit a single and ended up on second on an error. Blackmon advanced to third.
Tyler Colvin crash’s into second after a Chris Nelson hit.
Nelson getting doubled up at first to end the inning.
He took a pretty good hit but remained in the game. Tyler hit a single to get on base which scored Charlie Blackmon, for a quick Rockies lead.
Ryan Wheeler grounded to Tyler Chatwood. Wheeler reached on a throwing error to first.
Josh Rutledge flips one to D.J. Lemahieu to get Wheeler at second for the final out of the second.
After the third inning I headed out to where the Rockpile Ranter was. Jason Kubel hit a 2 run home run in the 4th. The D’backs took a 2-1 lead.
The Rockies made sure they did not hold the lead long. The Rockies would also score 2 in the inning and take the lead back 3-2.
Matt McBride slides into second on a Andrew Brown single in the 4th inning scoring Colvin from third.
Tyler Chatwood moving the runners in the 4th.
D.J. Lemahieu moved to second and Brown moved to third.
Chatwood pitched 5.2 innings and Josh Outman came into the game for the Rockies. Chatwood pitched very well probably one of his best starts in a while. He struck out 3, let up 2 runs on three hits. Kept the ball on the ground very well for 10 in field outs, of the 14 outs he was in the game for.
Charlie Blackmon in left field.
Here he is making a catch in the 8th inning.
Andrew Brown hit a home run for a insurance run for the Rockies in the 8th inning. this was his 4th home run since being called up.
he hit it out above the auxiliary scoreboard in right for his first opposite field home run. here he is turning at third and high fiving Rich Dauer.
Josh Rutlegde throw to Lemahieu to attempt a force at second. Jason Kubel was safe on this Ryan Wheelers hit.
The safe call being called by 2nd base umpire Jim Joyce and Eric Young!!!
Rafael Bettancourt came in for the save. He got the first 2 batters out and let it get interesting giving up 2 singles to Kubel and Wheeler. The final out was to Tyler Colvin who moved to left when Dexter Fowler came into the game in the 7th for Andrew Brown. The Rockies avoided the sweep with this 4-2 win. It was nice not to see a bottom of the 9th. inning. This does not happen to much these days. It was really cool because of the last 3 games. The Rockies are now 59 and 94 and 6 games away from 100 lose’s. They are 1 lose away from their all-time most lose’s of 95. That was done twice 1993 and 2005.
This was the fastest game at Coors of the season 2 hours and 30 minutes.
For anybody wondering we did not get a Kirk Gibson autographs. I actually gave up and stopped caring. If he don’t want to give one after so many trys I don’t want one. Amy did try after batting practice and he said he did not have time and headed into the dugout. So much for “I only sign inside”. I don’t mind not getting autos, but when someone says they only sign inside 2 days in a row and don’t do it, it kinda sucks.
Three more games against the Cubs left at home.
See You at Coors!
