Nicasio’s fire put out by rain!

Game 4

This being a day game there was no batting practice. So it was just a bunch of hanging out before the game.

IMG_1997Juan Nicasio was the starter for the Rockies. He pitched one of the best games I have seen him pitch in a long time he pitched 7 scoreless innings. Only giving up 2 hits, walking 1 and striking out 9. 2 of the strike outs were in the 1st. inning. He struck out Christian Yelich and Logan Morrison.  Also in the 1st was one of the hits and that was a double to Giancarlo (Mike) Stanton.

D.J. LeMahieu hit to the Marlins second baseman at this at bat in the 1st. inning for the second out of the inning.

Carlos Gonzalez getting ready to swing at his 1st. inning at bat.

Here he is taking another swing in which was a strike and he did strike out this at bat.

Charlie Blackmon made an awesome catch in foul territory to get Donovan Solano out in the second inning. This was the best photo from the catch because the security guard get in the way while Charlie was making the catch.

Nicasio’s final line under the first photo!

Nicasio pitching in the 7th inning as it started to rain at Coors.

During the 7th inning stretch the grounds crew pulled out the tarp after the Marlins started taking the field but the rain did start to get really heavy. There was than a 1 hour and 33 minute delay. The game was still scoreless to this point.

He is some boredom photography from the rain delay!

After the tarp came off the field and the sun came out Dan Jennings came into the game for the Marlins starter. Nathan Evoldi who pitched 6 scoreless innings. The Rockies got 3 hits and walked twice, he struck out 4.

Adam Ottavino pitched the 8th inning for the Rockies and after starting real strong striking out the first 2 batters he faced he gave up 2 singles and a run.

The run was scored on a wild pitch scoring Rob Brantly from third. (1-0) Marlins

Troy Tulowitzki who sat this game pinch hit in the pitches spot in the 8th. here he let a strike sneak by!

He made contact and…………(ooooh Suspense)

…..and popped it up to…..

… the Marlins pitcher Chad Qualls. That is a little different from popping out to the first or third base man.

The 9th inning Wilton Lopez came into pitch and they may as well put a batting tee at home plate for the Marlins to hit from. Christian Yelich hit a ground rule double to start the inning.

followed by this Stanton double as a result Yelich would score the Marlins second run. Morrison would make the first out of the inning but with one out Ed Lucas hit a single and Solano would go deep with a 2 run home run with the third and fourth run of the inning. giving the Marlins a 5-0 lead. Now I have mentioned before about Lopez’s poor performances but he has had really good innings and every 4th or 5th appearance he just totally falls apart.

Wilton Lopez coming of the field after the Solano home run. Mitchell Boggs would pitch for the Rockies and get the next to batters to ground out and got the Rockies out of the 8th inning.

After Rosario’s double the Marlins brought in their closer Steve Cishek.

Jonny Herrera ended the game by hitting into a double play and the Rockies would lose for the 5-3 and the series 3-1. Now this was a pretty good pitching series and the bats were not there for the most part.

So I am finally done with the Marlins series and now on to the Brewers series!!!

It was a little better than this one! I hope I can get throw the next 3 games before the Rockies return next week.

Well that’s it for this one.

Keep checking back for the rest of the post from what seemed like the never-ending home stand!

Rockies pitching keeps Marlins under water!

Marlins vs. Rockies

game 3.

Jorge de La Rosa was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. He struck out the Marlins first batter Adeiny Hechavarria He then walked Christian Yelich this was the 4th time in 5 MLB at bats he was on base. After the walk to Yelich he struck out Giancarlo (Mike) Stanton gave up a single to Ed Lucas who got out at second on a Placido Polanco hit to Rockies third base man Nolan Arenado who threw it over to D.J. LeMahieu at second for the third out of the inning.

In the Rockies first Dexter Fowler would fly out to left field and LeMahieu hit back to Miami’s pitcher Jacob Turner who threw to first for the second out Carlos Gonzalez hit a single but was caught stealing at second. I think he was safe but can’t fully tell but by where his left hand is and the ball is I think the left hand hit the bag before the ball hit the glove.

For a few days people were mentioning that they have not seen Roy Oswalt around well there was a siting he was in the dugout for this game.

The Rockies scoring began in the 2nd inning after Todd Helton hit his 579th double of his career with 2 outs. He than scored on a Nolan Arenado double. The 579th double now puts Helton in soul position of 19th passing Wade Boggs who he was tied with at 578. Next on the list is H.O.F Cap Anson. Played from 1871 (his career started 102 years before Helton was born) Anson played for 26 years with the Rockford Forest City’s, Philadelphia Athletics and Chicago White Stockings/Colts. He also managed during his playing career for the Athletics in 1875 and 1879-1897 for Chicago. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939, 17 years after his death at the age of 69.

Now back to the game.

The Rockies got the lead 1-0

Not Much happened till the 5th inning when they scored their 2nd run of the game. When Yorvit Torrealba scored on a LeMahieu sac-fly to center. Torrealba got on base with single advanced to third on a Fowler single. (2-0) Rox

No this is not #580 it was a single that resulted into an extra base when the Marlins Hechavarria made a throwing error to first. Michael Cuddyer did get out at second but Todd was not doubled up and advanced to second.

De La Rosa pitched a great game he pitched 6 scoreless innings and gave up 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 5. Edgmer Escolona came in and pitched in the 7th. He let up 2 singles and hit pinch hitter Gregg Dobbs.

Josh Outman then came into pitch to Yelich and after striking him out was replaced by Wilton Lopez.

Wilton pitched to Stanton and he hit to third and Arenado touched the bag to get out Jeff Mathis.

After walking in the 8th Michael Cuddyer stole second base.

The Rockies were only up by 1 in the 8th The Marlins picked up a run with a little small ball off of struggling reliever Matt Belilse. Besides the run he gave up 3 hits. He did strike out Justin Ruggiano to end the inning.

Rex Brothers came in for the save in the 9th besides the walk to Stanton who would end up being the last out of the game on a force at second he pitched well striking out Hechavarria and Yelich grounding out. Yelich did not have as good of a game as his debut the only time he was on base this game was on the 1st inning walk he was 0 for 4 his next 4 at bats.

LeMahieu tossing to Tulo for the last out of the game.

Torrealba and Brothers high-five after the out and that was the game. The Rockies won this one 2-1.

Well that is it for this one as I continue to play catch-up with this home stand I have 1 more from this series and the 3 against the Brewers. Check back to see those photos.

Also remember I am doing a contest, Answer the question besides Jason Jennings who are the other 3 Rockies pitchers to record 10 wins before the All-Star break. Name 2 of the others. email: Rox_addict@yahoo.com with answer there is a under score between the x and a.

Fish put more across the dish!

Marlins vs. Rockies

Game 2.

This was the second game of the 4 game series against the Miami Marlins.

Jhoulys Chacin was the starter for the Rockies. The game started with a line out to D.J. LeMahieu at second.

The Marlins call up  Christian Yelich swung at the second pitch he saw in his MLB career and hit his first MLB hit. A single to right field. He was the only base runner in the first inning for the Marlins.

Jose Fernandez was the starting pitcher for the Marlins. He walked Dexter Fowler to start the inning, but only face 3 batters Dex did get caught stealing second D.J. LeMahieu flew out and Carlos Gonzalez struck out.

Dex getting back to first after LeMahieu flew out to right field.

Tulo making an out in the 2nd inning.

Todd Helton taking a big swing in the 2nd inning for a solo home run and give the Rockies a 1 run lead.

Todd watching the ball head out over the right field wall.

Jonny Herrera put on the catchers helmet to warm up Jhoulys Chacin between the 2nd and 3rd inning.

Adeiny Hechavarria hit a lin drive back to Chacin which hit him in the leg and was fielded by Nolan Arenado for the Marlins second hit of the game. Chacin pitched very well in the 2nd inning and gave up this hit an a second to Christian Yelich once again, for his second MLB hit. It was also Yelich’s first RBI, when Hechavarria scored to tie the game at 1.

LeMahieu hitting a lead of single in the 4th inning.

Michael Cuddyer at bat in the 4th inning he struck out for the third out of the inning. This was one of those I just like the photo so put it in the post.

Arenado throws to first for a double play attempt. Jose Fernandez hit a ball back to Jhoulys Chacin who threw to Arenado and then Arenado threw to first being covered by D.J. LeMahieu.

Fernandez was safe at first. The Marlins took a 3-1 lead in the 5th inning scoring 2. Hechavarria double scored Jeff Mathis and Yelich got his third hit and second RBI of the game and his Career. Not a bad debut!

D.J. LeMahieu came out fighting in the 6th inning with his lead off triple. While everyone else seems to be slumping he has been a hitting this home stand. he is batting .390 to this point with this triple and 2 doubles in the July 19th lose against the Cubs.

The Marlins scored a 4th run in the 8th inning on a Giancarlo (Mike) Stanton solo home run. Guy has to hit one when he is here!!! The home run came off of Josh Outman who came into pitch the inning he faced 3 batters in the inning before Edgmer Escolona came into the game and face one batter to get the Rockies out of the inning on a double play hit by Ed Lucas.

The Marlins closer Steve Cishek came into pitch for the Marlins in the 9th inning he was the Marlins third pitcher of the game. Fernandez pitched 7 giving up just 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 8 of the Rockies batters. The Marlins second pitcher Mike Dunn pitched the 8th striking out Fowler and LeMahieu.

Cargo walked in the 9th and then stole second.

Troy Tulowitzki strikes out looking for the first out of the inning. this was his 3rd strike out of the game.

Michael Cuddyer gave a shot at trying to score Cargo but was unsuccessful in his attempt when he grounded out to first.

Cuddy out at first.

Helton would pop out to the Marlins third baseman Placido Polanco to end the inning.

The Rockies would lose their second game of this series and the third of the home stand.

That’s it for this one got a bunch more from this series and home stand.

See You at Coors.

The game could of been done in 1 !

Miami Marlins vs. Colorado Rockies.

OK gonna do something a little different this time. Since I a about 6 games behind this week and we all know this was a horrible series, But I was there and got photos so I feel like I still have to put something together so for these games I am just going to do a brief narrative and post the photos.

So got a ball in BP very clean looked fresh out of the box and well I lost it.

Drew Pomeranz was the starting pitcher for the Rockies need I say more! He started out well and then it all went to hell!!!

The Marlins scored 2 in the first!

Dex lined out in the first.

Tom Koehler started for the Marlins.

Tulo lead off the 4th with a solo shot! it was 3-0 Miami when he it after it was 3-1

Look a shiny object!

Nice sunset this night.

Another of the sunset.

Pomeranz pitched into the 5th. After walking 2 in the inning. Manny Corpas pitched he pitched well holding the Marlins and Wilton Lopez came in to pitch in the 8th.

After Todd Helton struck out in the 9th so did Wilin Rosario.

Nolan Arenado made contact in the 9th.

Was thrown out at first.

The game was over the Marlins win 3-1.

Marc Stout interviews D.J. LeMahieu after the game. LeMahieu had a great night he went 3-4 and stood on base a lot was stranded all 3 times. He has been hitting very well at this time that no one else is. I have seen him get left on base this home stand including in the 9th against the Cubs when he hit a lead off double and Cargo, Tulo and Cuddy could not get him in for a run.

Well that is it for this short and not so sweet addition of the Rox Addict blog. Bunch more left from this home series to follow.

Also I have not forgot about the Contest still getting stuff together for the prize and been getting a bunch of participation.

See you at Coors.

The Crawdads start off slow and steal the Grasshoppers show.

Hickory Crawdads Vs. Greensboro Grasshoppers.

The Crawdads are the Low A Affiliate of the Texas Rangers and The Grass Hoppers are the Low A affiliate of the Miami Marlins.  This is the second Marlins affiliate I have seen on this trip. This is the 8th game of the road trip. 8th Minor League game of the year.  My 44th game of the year.

NewBridge Bank Park, Greensboro, N.C.

For the 2nd year in a row I was there for their 4th of July fireworks, last year I saw the Kannapolis Intimidators play the Grasshoppers. http://roxaddict.mlblogs.com/2011/07/07/the-grasshoppers-get-crushed-like-a-bug-on-a-windshield-by-the-intimiadators/ This has almost became a tradition for my family that lives in Greensboro. The ballpark is nice has some history about baseball in Greensboro and Local flare. Baseball in Greensboro has been around since the early 1900’s the current incarnation of Greensboro baseball started in 1980. The Teams name was the Hornets it then was changed to the Bats and is currently as you know the Grasshoppers.

For this game I did not get to the stadium overly early and we got to the stadium about a half hour before the first pitch. As we entered I noticed the big landing X for sky divers and the Jump planes circling, so as we walked around the gift shop I kept an eye on the field to see if the festivities started. I think skydivers landing is really cool. I also think blinking lights are great too but that is for another day.

This is a photo of one of the guys coming in over the stadium.

A close up of the sky diver who flew over during the National Anthem  with the flag.

Josh Hodges throws the first pitch to the Crawdads Rougned Odor. Which the Grassboro staff had some fun with on the video board.

Odor would pop out to the Grasshoppers second baseman. That Just stinks for the Crawdads. The Crawdads would see some base runners Hodges walked a batter and hit another with a pitch he had slight control issues in the first.

Guilford was all patriotic for the game!!!

The Grasshoppers got  things started early their lead off batter Ryan Goetz hit a single and stole 2nd. With 2 outs Ryan Rieger hit a Home Run for a quick 2-0 Grass Hoppers lead. Josh Hodge would find his stuff in the second and sit the Crawdads down in order!

The Grasshoppers got 3 More in the second with the lead off man reaching on and error the second batter also being hit. and a Wilfredo Gimenez scoring 2 on a double. (4-0) Grasshoppers. Gimenez would then score on a wild pitch. As seen in the above photo.(5-0) Grasshopper

The Crawdads go on the board in the third. Drew Robinson hit a 2 run home run. (5-2) Grasshoppers.

As always at NewBridge Bank Park has the Labs Master Yogi Berra and Miss Babe Ruth. The owner has something to do with lab breeding or a lab rescue forgot which but they are used threw out the game for promos and as the bat dog.

The Crawdads tied it up in the 4th with a swing of the bat, when Jhonny Gomez hit a 3 run home run. (5-5)

Which was another name the Grasshoppers staff had fun with.

The Grasshoppers Hodge lasted 4 2/3 innings and Chris Schafer came in to pitch the next few innings. After I decided to get out of my seat to get some photos because the netting down the whole side of the field was driving me and my cameras crazy. I saw this guy in his seat. Another Rockies fan.

one of the promos between innings was the build a sandwich contest. which one person was the bread and then the other had to stack stuff on top of them to make the sandwich. The second person was the top piece of bread. I have seen this contest in different stadiums with different formats.

The Crawdads scored 2 more in the fifth to take a (7-5) Lead. this was like being at a Rockies game they go up by a bunch early than loose the lead. Try to fight back and come up short. The Grasshoppers did get an additional run in the fifth aswell.

Josh Adams takes a huge swing in the sixth to strike out. For the first out of the inning.

Gimenez hits one to get on base on a bad throw to first from the pitcher.

The ball already past the first baseman as Gimenez reaches first.

So here is another race that does not include dental products it is the Neese’s Sausage race. Not Creepy, but a little silly.

John Shultz hitting one to for a single in the 7th and would be the Grasshoppers only batter of the inning.

Aaron Senne sends one to right field….

Which was caught by the Crawdads right fielder.

Ryan Rieger would strike out to end the inning.

Adam Conley pitched for the Grasshoppers in the eighth. It is always crazy seeing a side arm pitcher pitch. I have been seeing a bunch in the last 2 years in Minor League but not many in the Majors yet.

The Crawdads Jordan Akins try to leg one out in the eight.

A Crawdad pitching change in the eighth Phil Klein came into pitch.

Another one gets by the Crawdads first baseman in the ninth.

Yeison Hernandez dives back to first. The Last 2 Grasshoppers batters struck out and that was the game 7-6 Crawdads.

After the game there was fireworks before the Dogs came out and ran the bases and ran around the field.

Then there was the fireworks.

That is it for this visit to Greensboro. Got a bunch of games coming up and with a slight schedule change i may be able to get a few more stadium in along the way. The next few days I will be in Hickory for a game or 2 and Burlington for a game or 2. I am revamping my schedule a little but it may benefit getting in more games.
