Phillies vs. Rockies
Game 3 of Series my 9th of the year at Coors 10th with the Springs.
Today being a Autograph Sunday we got autographs the 4 signers were D.J. LeMahieu, Rex Brothers, Tommy Kahnle and Drew Stubbs. I had all 4 on my team project already so I only had a 8×10 of Drew Stubbs to be signed. I then had Carlos and his wife help me get a Ryne Sandberg auto after seeing him outside the stadium and him not signing Friday night and not getting him Saturday when he did sign after the game. I asked if they could bring a ball down behind home plate because they had tickets that allowed them to go down on the field behind home plate. They were able to get it for me and that was awesome of them! Thanks Again!
The Ryne Sandberg signed baseball!
Before the game at the wall I also got Brandon Barnes and Josh Rutledge on my team project which only leaves me with 5 Players I need on it and 2 coaches. I also got the Opening Day photo of Charlie Blackmon after hitting his homerun photo signed and he signed it 6/6 O.D. 2014.
The Photo is in this link of Opening Day!
Thanks Tanya for the assist on the Rutty !
After the autograph it was time for the game!
Juan Nicasio started for the Rockies today. This was his 4th start of the year. He has been pitching well this season and has 2 wins and no loses. He started the game with a ground out by Ben Revere to Nolan Arenado at third. The second batter Jimmy Rollins got the Phillies on the board fast with a solo home run. Nicasio kept it together well and went on to strike out Chase Utley and Marlon Byrd. He did give up a single between the 2 strike outs to Ryan Howard.
Roberto Hernandez started for the Phillies. Charlie Blackmon struck out to start the inning. Brandon Barnes followed with a single he would later score on a Justin Morneau single to tie the game at 1.
Brandon Barnes dives back to first.
The Phillies would score 2 more in the 3rd Ryan Howard hit a home run scoring himself and Utley to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead. The Rockies did fight back in the bottom of the inning and scored 3 of there own. Charlie Blackmon lead off the inning by being hit by a pitch. Brandon Barnes got on base with his second single of the game, but would be out at second on a Carlos Gonzalez hit. Barnes did a very good job of breaking up the play at second and prevented the double play.
Troy Tulowitzki had a very timely hit with a double scoring Blackmon. The Rockies then tied the game with a Morneau ground out to first scoring Cargo from third. A Nolan Arenado single scored Tulo and the Rockies had a 4-3 lead.
Arenado did get caught between first and second during Josh Rutledge’s at bat and ended the inning. The play was a 1,3,6,1,4,2,5. Just incase you were wondering how it was scored!
Nicasio got all 3 batters out in the 4th. Josh Rutledge then Lead off the 4th inning since Arenado made the last out in the 3rd.
Rutledge standing up after sliding into second. He did remain on base and did not score in the inning.
Nicasio had another good inning in the 5th. He did walk Jimmy Rollins but struck out Utley for the second time in the game to end the inning.
During Pacheco’s at bat in the 4th he tipped a ball offs Wil Nieves foot. Here is the Phillies trainer and Manager Ryne Sandberg checking him out. He did stay in the game.
Blackmon takes a pitch for a ball during his 4th inning at bat.
The Rockies scored 2 in the 5th to give them a 6-3 lead. Brandon Barnes scored on a Cargo double.
Jimmy Rollins dive back to first after his walk in the 5th.
Ryan Howard leads off the 6th with a triple here he is sliding into third. It was not exactly the prettiest slide I have ever seen!
After Marlon Byrd hit a single after the Howard triple Juan Nicasio was removed from the game. Howard did score on the Byrd single. (6-4) RoxByrd scored on a Freddie Galvis single and the Rox still had a 6-5 lead.
Rex Brothers came in after Nicasio in the 6th.
Pacheco also started the bottom of the 6th inning with a triple, but was caught between third and home on a Corey Dickerson single and then Corey was called out after a review at second because his foot came off the bag at second.
Cargo was removed from the game in the 6th after running out pop fly to end the 6th inning for the Rockies.
Boone Logan started the 7th for the Rockies.
3 more runs in the 7th for the Phillies and a 8-6 lead. Ottavino finished the 7th for the Rockies. The Rockies tied the game at 8 in the 7th with a Morneau 2 run home run. The Phillies took the lead back in the 8th with 2 runs. (10-8) Phillies
Charley Blackmon tried to get things going for the Rockies again with a solo home run to make the score 10-9. Drew Stubbs hit a double but was left on base with Tulo who walked in the inning. Tulo did reach base 5 times this game went 3 for 3 and walked 2 times. He also hit a double in the 7th. He was on base for the Morneau homer.
Jonathan Papelbon pitched the 9th for the Phillies.
Here he is shaking hands with Wil Nieves after Blackmon made the last out of the game or was it!!!
The umps reviewed this one and it did stay as it was called on the field and the game was over and the Phillies won 10-9. The Rockies did take the series 2-1. This game was a real rollercoaster of great offence and bad running O.K. by Nicasio which kept the Rockies in the game and then the bullpen falling apart. And the bats trying to take back the lead and then falling short this was an exciting game with not the out come we would like but the Rockies did fight to keep them close.
Another note is that Ryan Howard almost hit for the cycle he hit a single in the first, Homer in the 3rd, triple in the 6th and did end up on 2nd in the 7thbut it was ruledo a single and an error on Barnes in right advanced him to second. Rollins was also a triple awy from one also.
The Rockies are back at .500 with a 10-10 record and are 3rd in the west 2.5 games behind the Dodgers who are in first and 1 behind the Giants.
So that is it for this one the Giants will be in town for 3 the next 3 days.
See You at Coors!
Phillies vs. Rockies Game 2.
My 8th of the year at Coors.
Jordan Lyle was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. He faced 4 Phillies in the first and Chase Utley was the only base runner he hit a single with 2 outs and the inning ended with Ryan Howard striking out.
Kyle Kendrick was the starting pitcher for the Phillies.
There was no scoring for either team till the Rockies scored 1 in the 3rd. Nolan Arenado scored after he hit a lead-off single and scored on a D.J. LeMahieu single. D.J. moved to second on the throw home. Arenado was originally called out. After a review the call was overturned, not because of a missed tag but because Carlos Ruiz the Phillies catcher was blocking the plate. Kind of an interesting call including the 2 new rules initiated this year.
For a few innings there was a squirrel running around the field first in the infield then the outfield. He was then chased into the fountain area by the batters eye in center field. I think he originally fell out of Charlie Blackmon’s beard but this can not be confirmed!
The Rockies did score 2 more runs in the 4th inning on a Justin (I am flying under the radar) Morneau home run. He has been very quietly hitting very well batting .333 with 3 home runs. He seems to be a very good addition to this team. I was worried at first but he seems to be replacing Todd very well at first and a great addition at the plate. (3-0) Rox
Lyles pitched into the 8th inning. He gave up 5 hits 1 run, striking out 2 and walking 1.
Lyles was replaced by Boone Logan. He did give up a hit scoring the 1 run that was charge to Lyles because he gave up a single to Cody Asche. Logan struck out Chase Utley to end the inning. (3-1) Rox.
LaTroy Hawkins pitched the 9th for the save. His 4th of the year. Jordan Lyles got the win and player of the game. It was Lyles 3 win of the year. This game brought the Rockies to a 10-9 record and brought them over .500. This was also the first time I have seen a Rockies pitcher start the 8th inning in a while.
Dominic Brown flew out to center to end the game.
This game I did not take many photos as you could probably tell by the lack of photos. The Squirrel was probably the only photo I got of anything running up the line toward first base till that point in the game.
That is it for this one. I will be at Coors the whole road stand so see you there!
Also this is my 300th post on MLBlogs thanks to everyone who follows me and checks in on the blog.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Colorado Rockies
My 7th Coors Game of the year.
After Heading in I headed towards the pavilions for batting practice and did not get any baseballs. The Rockies had an OK BP and the Phillies was very uneventful. After I went to the wall on the first base side and was able to get Drew Stubs on my team project. Which leaves me with only 8 more guys I need on it including 2 coaches Eric Young and Blake Doyle.
Tyler Chatwood was the staring pitcher for the Rockies he pitched very well in the first he had Ben Revere ground out to start the game and then walked Jimmy Rollins. Chase Utley the only player to hit a fly ball off Chatwood to the outfield the whole time he pitched. Ryan Howard also grounded out and the inning was over.
Eric Young came out for the bottom of the 1st. and did he usual high five down the line.
Jonathan Pettibone was the starter for the Phillies.
It did not take long for the Rockies to get to him once again Charlie (Chuck Naszty) Blackmon kept it Nazty with a lead off single he started the game with a .411 batting average and raised he average to .426 by the end of the game.
Drew Stubbs then hit a single, Carlos Gonzalez hit a very hard line drive to Utley at second for the first out of the inning.
After Tulo took a 14 pitch at bat and walked Justin Morneau hit a GRDB to left to score Blackmon and Stubbs for a 2-0 lead.
Tyler Chatwood Struck out both Marlon Byrd and Dominic Brown in the second followed by a ground out to Arenado at third for a very quick inning throwing only 11 pitches.
The Rockies offense stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 2nd with a 4-0 lead and once again Blackmon hit a single and Cargo would score and then Troy Tulowitzki did what he does best hits a homer with a already big lead! It is great that we got tacos in only the second inning but we were up by 4. I would like to see him hit the 3 run homer when we are down by 2 in the 8th or 9th to give the team the lead after being behind. He always performs best when we already have the lead and rarely in the clutch when hits and runs are needed. So TYPICAL TULO!
In another quick inning Chatwood got all three Phillies batters too ground out throwing only 9 pitches. The Rox did not score in the 3rd, but Tulo hit a double to score the Rockies 8th run of the game. Once again TYPICAL TULO. Now it has always been this way with him adds runs to already big leads. He does always have the numbers but it when he gets the numbers that drives me crazy. he also hit a single in the 6th that scored the Rockies 9th run of the game so he did go 3 for 3 with a walk and 5 RBI’s but all 5 were with a lead of 4 or more.
The Phillies did get to Chatwood slightly in the 6th, after we started to notice he had a No- No going. With 2 outs in the 5th and it looking like he would have another great inning Carlos Ruiz hit a ball to Arenado at third that he either kicked or just missed with his glove and hit him for a error and only the 2nd runner for the Phillies of the game. Ruiz then scored on a Jason Nix single and the Rockies had a 9-1 lead.
Former Rocky and current Phillies Jeff Manship came into start the 7th inning for the Phillies. He was the 4th pitcher for the Phillies at this point after getting the first 2 batters Rosario and Arenado out D.J. LeMahieu hit a single and Manship was taken out of the game. D.J. would later score the 10th run of the game for the Rockies, he scored on a Blackmon single.
Blackmon went 3 for 5 with an RBI and scored twice, he now has a .426 batting average 3 weeks into the season is very good with 61 at bats.
After Chatwood was taken out of the game after 7 Chad Bettis pitched the 8th and Matt Belisle came out to pitch the 9th.
Belisle would strike out Ryan Howard for the third out in the 9th to end the game. The Rockies went on to win this game 12-1
Tulo was named player of the game which I found as B.S. because of when the runs and hit came but what are you going to do. I thought Morneau or Blackmon could of been it just as well because with out them getting hits and on base in the first we would not of had the 4-0 led when Tulo came up in the 2nd. How about 5 innings of no hit baseball for Chatwood does that not count for anything in this game he held the Phillies to 2 hits and 1 run in 7 innings of pitching. Which is incredible for a Rockies pitcher at Coors since it is such a hitters ballpark( sense the sarcasm)! He pitched a great game way to go Chatty great to see you back with great stuff!!!
That is it for this one I will be at Coors all week, remember to tip your waiters and waitresses!!!!!!
See you there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Phillies vs. Rockies
My 39th of the year at Coors.
I came directly from work and made it to the stadium about 20 minutes before 1st pitch I heard the batting practice was really good once again!
Here is starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood heading out from the bull-pen with the starting pitcher entourage! Wilin Rosario, Pitching Coach Jim Wright and Jerry Weinstein. I take this photo almost every game I go to, but this group always has the best ones. Very animated and lively with a lot of interaction.
Tyler Chatwood throwing the first pitch to the Phillies Ben Revere. Now over this weekend I met and sat by a lot of Phillies fans and most of them have been complaining about this guy. He doesn’t hit home runs! Well he is the leadoff man. Another he is never on base well the three game I have seen him play he hit a bunch of single not to be a spoiler for my own post but he went 3 for 5 this game. Not what they were saying about him must be Coors!!!! Another did say has never hit a home run and well he still has not. I thought everyone hit home runs at Coors! Oooh wait the Phillies haven’t hit any this series yet. Yes, this is sarcasm having to do with that conversation everybody always has about Coors Field and why we hit well which I had with a Phillies fan this weekend.
Ben Rever diving back to first base after his first inning single. He did go on and steal second and advanced to third on a error and scored. I would say he did his job. It would have saved time if he just hit the home run! What does everyone think their leadoff man is like Dexter Fowler.
Carlos Gonzalez Throwing the Ryan Howard hit ball to left.
Wilin Rosario grabbing the ball and tagging out Michael Young at home.
The Phillies scored 1 run in the first and avoided a 2nd on a great throw by Cargo.
Jonathan Pettibone was the starting pitcher for the Phillies. After Josh Rutledge popped out to first for the first out of the inning the Rockies got all over Pettibone.
So the second batter of the game Jordan Pacheco hit a single.
Followed by a Cargo double.
Scoring Pacheco. Pacheco making the turn at third before scoring the Rockies first run of the game/inning.
The next batter Michael Cuddyer hit a single. Scoring Cargo. (2-1) Rox
Rosario hit a triple, here he is after sliding into third base.
Tyler Colvin than sent one Opposite field for his third home run since his return to the Rockies. (5-1) Rox
Tyco and Rosario after Tycos 2 run home run.
The Rockies were not done just yet Nolan Arenado hit a single he did get out at second on a D.J. LeMahieu single.
D.J. then stole second base.
He scored on a Tyler Chatwood single. Chatwood has to be one of the best hitting pitchers in the game currently. If he is not he has to be pretty close to it. He is batting.438 (7 for 16) with 5 RBI’s.
Chatwood advanced to third on a really bad throw showed by a really bad photo!
The ball got passed third base man Michael Young and Lemahieu scored as the ball rolled. So he did not really score on the Chatwood single it was on the bad play after it!
Here is what happened: Chatwood grounded to Ryan Howard who throw home D.J. turned back to third and Catcher Umberto Quintero over threw 3rd. D.J. scored Chatwood moved to 3rd.
The Rockies score 6 in the first with great hitting by most of the lineup in this inning. They did have 10 batters in the inning. Rutledge ended the inning lining out to second.
It was visit Rapid City Day at Coors when we arrived they gave us poster with Dante Bichette, Andre Galarraga, Todd Helton and Vinny Castillia on them, looking like Mt. Rushmore. The other side had a photo of the real Mt. Rushmore. Then they had the president from the Rapid City South Dakota State tourism there as well they were giving way trips to Rapid City.
The Phillies did pick up a run in the 2nd. On a Ben Revere single scoring Umberto Quintero from 1st. The Rockies did not score in the second (6-2) Rox
Rosario followed his first inning triple with a 3rd inning double and again doubled in the 4th. Scoring in both innings. The Rockies only scored one in the 3rd. but it got us tacos (7-2) Rox
Chatwood hit another single in the 4th once again contributing to the offence.
Chatwood beating the throw from Jimmy Rollins to Ryan Howard for the single! (10-2) Rox
The pitchers continued to contribute offensively in the 6th when Adam Ottavino got on base on an error. He ended up on second. He would remain there as Josh Rutledge struck out for the second time in this game and his fifth time not getting on base. He ended up 0 for 6 on the day. The pitchers were 3 for 3 with a sac bunt!
Ryan Howard striking out to end the game. The Rockies won this one 10-5. The Phillies got 3 runs in the 8th off Chris Volstad.
Well That is it for this one. The Rockies tie the series with the Phillies at 1 apiece. Got one more game from this series to go and It was a great one. A Phillie Phinally hits a homer.
Also looks like the first stop on my road trip will be in St. Louis!
Remember to follow me the whole trip on twitter @roxaddict.
Now with the presidents theme they made the players look like presidents. Here are the photos they had on the board during their at bats!
Here are the photos!
Phillies vs. Rockies
My 38th game of the year at Coors. 40th with the Springs.
Today I reached a milestone and accomplished my all time high for baseballs in a MLB stadium batting practice. It started quickly after entering the pavilions, I got one of the first balls hit out by Michael Cuddyer. A roller that fell a few rows behind me. Not long after I got a second from Wilin Rosario for #2 of the day. The Phillies started hitting and It took a while to get the first from them and it was a catch for the third ball of the day. That was also my 100 batting practice ball ever. The Phillies continued to hit well and I felt the elusive 4th ball was a very good possibility, a few went long and flew over my head another I ran up 3 rows jumped and it tipped off my glove and landed in someone’s lap behind me. Another hit a row or 2 behind me and slightly to my left facing the seats it than rolled down the Isle and I had it in my hand. Grabbed it bare handed and someone than grabbed my hand. So I said let go of me it is in my hand and the guy proceeded to keep the hold. So he let go and I had it and hit my milestone 4th ball in one BP. I have never done that before, I have got 3 a few times but was never able to get the 4th. So as I started walking away he and someone he was with started piping there mouths about how it was theirs and I should give it to the guy and it is wrong to take the ball away from someone. The whole bunch of B.S. someone spouts out of their mouths when they feel they deserve a ball because they were sitting where it rolled past them and how they deserve it not the person who gets it. Then there mouths continued the banter as I was walking away. I turn and tossed it at them try to basically knock there teeth out instead of give them the ball. It hit a row behind them and they picked it up like they just got the walk of home run in game 7 of the World Series. Enjoy the ball bitch! I do normally keep the baseballs I get I am a collector, I feel each ball is very distinct and different. Do to how I got it, markings and many other things that can distinguish each ball in my collection or the significance of it as a ball hawk. So yes I am mad that I was unable to keep such a memorial ball but whatever sometimes you have to give in to people that feel they deserve something they could not achieve on there own. Now I feel we all have the same chance of getting a ball who ever gets the ball in there glove or hand first is the out right owner of the ball and can choose what they want to do with it. Just because it bounces past you, off you or out of your glove it is not yours until you have the position of the ball. If that was the case I would of had 4 baseballs in 1 BP years ago and would of hit 100 probably the end of last year instead of the middle of this one. I do feel privileged that I have got as many baseballs that I have and some people have never gotten any, but I have honed skills the last few years to obtain BP baseballs on my own catching them, picking them up getting them on a bounce, However every one who wants a ball can get one in BP you just have to put in time and have patience and realize you may not always get one because you are there. That is it on my ball hawking rants. I will give a last piece of advice you want a ball bring a glove and be ready when it is hit by you, It is not the regulars job to give you a ball.
After BP someone who was in the section said that I was right about the ball and it was nice that I did give it up but should not have.
Now I think there was a baseball game played!!!
Juan Nicasio was the starting pitcher for the Rockies this game. He had a very good 1st. inning Ben Revere grounded out and than he struck out the next 2 batters Michael Young and Domonic Brown.
Kyle Kendrick was the starting pitcher for the Phillies After getting Josh Rutledge and Jonny Herrera out Carlos Gonzalez hit a solo home run to put the Rockies on the board.
Cargo after crossing home plate.
The Rockies scored 2 more in the 2nd inning to give them a 3-0 lead.
Josh Rutledge gave the Rockies sixth run of the game. The Rockies scored one run before his home run on a Yorvit Torrealba double that scored Tyler Colvin. The Phillies did 2 runs in the top of the 4th. (6-2) Rox
Domonic Brown flying out in the 5th inning.
The Rockies scored a run in the 5th to get Tacos and a 7-2 lead.
In the 6th inning it was time to head to the upper deck for the Coors Field sunset when I was down low it looked like it was going to be really good, but it was just an OK sunset which well is still pretty good! One of the best views during a MLB game.
While I was up there things started heating up for the Phillies as the sun was going down. Nicasio started get giving up some hits which resulted in runs, 3 in the inning. Josh Outman came into finish the inning for the Rockies. (7-5) Rox
Wilton Lopez came in to pitch in the he let up 2 runs to give the Phillies the 8-7 lead. The first run came off of Outman before he was taken out of the game. Not the best performance by either of them.
Dexter Fowler came into pinch run for Wilin Rosario who pinch hit in the pitchers spot in the 8th. Dexter diving back to first with his still wrapped index finger.
He did go on and steal second. To put the tying run in scoring position, unfortunately that is where he remained as Josh Rutledge flew out to end the inning. Jonathan Papelbon came into pitch in the 9th inning for the Phillies to pretty much finish off the Rockies and get the save. The Phillies used 7 pitchers in this game. All 7 Rockies runs did come from Kendrick early in the game. Once again this shows there is no safe lead at Coors field.
Freddy Gavis throws out Jonny Herrera after Jonny’s hit to him at short for the first out of the 9th. Carlos Gonzalez hit a single, Michael Cuddyer struck out and Todd Helton also grounded out to short to end the game.
Todd Helton hitting the ball for the last out of the game.
This was another game that just got a way from the Rockies after a very good start to the game. Lopez who has been improving lately went back to his shaky inconsistent pitching that he has become known for in his career.
That is it for this one thanks for dealing with the earlier rant! I just am very courteous during BP and hate that people don’t have a clue how things work out there. I have had many baseballs pass me, hit off my glove and hit me and well I lost them and that is how the ball rolls sometimes! O.K. really I will stop now!
There is 2 more against the Phillies left in this series. They turned out slightly better, check back to see the posts for those games.
Also this week I will start my 2013 road trip more details will follow. Got a few stadiums and game planned out just waiting to set a schedule. I will also be in Colorado Springs on Tuesday of next week.
See You at Coors and at a stadium near you!
Phillies Vs. Rockies
Game 3 of series.
Starting Pitchers for this game were Roy Halliday for the Phillies and Jason Hammel for the Rox.
This was Halliday’s second start at Coors Field. He is originaly from Arvada Colorado and went to Arvada West High School.
(local guy # 1)
Today during batting practice we got a view of one of the newest Rockies Alex White he was snagging baseballs in the outfield.
He is wearing # 32. He came from the Indians in the Ubaldo deal. He is on rehab assignment and will be with the double A Tulsa Drillers.
Here is Chris Nelson showing the love by tossing a ball to the fans.
After Dan caught a ball he gave it to Emily to give it away. Here she is contemplating who she will give the ball to. to quote Dan “I don’t know why she was having such a tough time giving that one away, she’s done it a hundreds of times.”
Regan Smith from Denver’s Furniture Row Racing threw out the first pitch.
(Honorary Local Guy)
He is the driver of the #78 car in the Nascar Nextel Cup Series. The Furniture Row team is the only Nascar team based west of the Mississippi River. Most are based in North Carolina. He is currently rank 25th in points in his series and has recently finished 3rd at the Brickyard 500 in Indianapolis last week. He also has one win, which was at Darlington in May.
The Rockies getting ready to take the field.
Jason Hammel throws the first pitch to the Phillies Jimmy Rollins. Jason would walk Rollins and then the next 2 batters before striking out Ryan Howard. Jason threw 25 pitches in the inning 15 balls and 10 for strikes. The Phillies did score a run in the inning on a Hunter Pence sac-fly to center. (1-0) Phillies. 2 of the 3 outs Strike outs.
The Rockies would battle against Halliday in the first Eric Young Jr.would hit a lead of single, then steal second and scored on a ball that was bobbled by Ryan Howard hit by Dexter Fowler. After Howard picked it up he over threw it to Halliday who was covering first. (1-1)
EYJ scoring the Rockies first run of the game. Dexter would also score on a sac- fly to center by the Deuce (2-0) Rox.
Jason Hammel fields Roy Halliday sac bunt in the 2nd. The Phillies would score 4 in the inning. (5-1) Phillies.
Ruiz, Rollins, Victorino and Howard would all get hits. Rollins and Howards were for double accounting for 3 of the 5 runs.
Ian Stewart would lead off the second with a double and would later score on a Eliezer Alfonzo double. (5-3)
Hammel seemed to gain composure in the 3rd sitting the Phillies down in order and only throwing 11 pitches.
Fowler lead off the bottom of the third with a walk he then stole second. and would score once again on Helton single. (5-4)
Dex diving back to first after his 3rd inning lead off walk.
The Halliday would contribute offensively in the 4th with a lead off single, he would score on a wild pitch to Pence. (6-4) Phillies
The Rockies bats were not there in the 4th. Mark Ellis did lead off the inning with a single but was caught stealing at second. Alfonso and Hammel both struck out.
The Deuce turning a double play in the 5th inning. After Raul Ibanez lead of single, Wilson Valdez would hit a grounder to Ellis who flipped it to The Deuce and then to Helton. This team makes the double play look so easy and it has saved them many time during the season.
The Rockies would score again in the 5th on a Helton single scoring for the third time in the game Dexter Fowler. (6-5) Phillies
With 2 outs in the 6th the Phillies woud score 2 more runs. Ryan Howards third HR of the series score himself and Chase Utley. (8-5) Phillies
The Next responce from the Rockies was in the 8th inning when Helton hit a solo HR(8-6)
That was the Final score.
Helton rounds third after hitting his HR. It was his 12th HR of the season. and Career 345th.
The ball was hit to left field and Dan had caught it that was his 81st HR ball at Coors. This series Dan has a better highlight reel then the Rox!!!!He was also interviewed by Root Sports on Monday.
The Phillies Brad Lidge would come in to close for the Phillies in the 9th inning. To get his first save of the year. Brad is also from the area and went to Cherry Creek H.S.
(Local Guy # 2)
Well thats all I got on this one.
Heading to the Springs which will be my next post. Also will be at Coors on Sunday.
Til then Keep #44 in your Prayers. See ya around.
Philadelphia Phillies Vs. Colorado Rockies
Got shut out during BP, No big deal. Then I headed over to the 1st base line. Got this shot of
Eric Young Jr. Throwing to Dexter Fowler.
Cole Hamels Pitched for the Phillies and Jhoulys Chacin started for the Rox.
Jhoulys Chacin throwing the first pitch to The Phillies Jimmy Rollins. Rollins and Shane Victorino Both grounded out. Chase Utley was walked and Ryan Howard Flew out to end the inning. The Rockies went down in order in the Second.
Cole Hamel pitching in the 1st inning.
Hunter Pence at bat in the 2nd inning. he lead off the inning with a fly ball to center.
Hunter Pence at bat in the 2nd inning. He lead off the inning with a fly ball to center. He was just traded from the Astros. Chacin also walked a batter in the 2nd Raul Ibanez. The Phillies would not score in the inning.
Chacin threw 29 pitches in the first 2 innings.
The Deuce Troy Tulowitzki would lead off the second with aground out. Ty Wiggington would hit a single and score on a Seth Smith HR. (2-0)
Seth Smith running to home after his 2nd inning HR.
Shane Victorio being called out after being tagged out by Chris Iannetta.
The Deuce swinging wildly to foul off the pitch in the 5th inning. He would later Strike out in the at bat for the third out of the inning. In the Inning Ellis struck out for the second out. Both Ellis and Tulowitzki came up with the bases loaded. This was a situation that all they needed was a base hit for 2 runs and were swinging for the fences. I know Tulo wants to be the hero but striking out is not going to produce. I am still not familiar with Ellis swing but I know when Tulo is swinging for the fence instead of getting a hit. He defiantly was not looking for the single which would score a run or 2 which can always be needed for this team the way they have been playing of late. These runs would be very significant in the later innings.
These 2 photos are of Hunter Pence scoring the Phillies first run in the 7th inning. (2-1) Rox
Bob Apodaca comes out to talk to Chacin in the 7th inning.
Chris Iannetta crosses the plate after his 7th inning lead off HR.
Chacin remained in the game and grounded out for the 1st out. Young pop out to the catcher. Fowler would walk than be caught stealing at second with Ellis at the plate for the 3rd out of the inning.
Ty Wiggington giving Chacin some props as he left the game in the 8th. Chacin once again pitched well striking out to letting up 5 hits and 1 run. walking 2. He threw 101 pitches.
Matt Reynolds would come in to pitch to Utley and Howard. Rafael Betancourt would finish the inning.
Rafael Betancourt striking out Pence to end the 8th.
Huston Street warming up before the 9th inning.
The Rockies went into the 9th with a 3-1 lead and looked like they had the game. Huston Street would strike out Ibanez and Placido Polanco would fly out to Dex in center. street would need one strike to also K Carlos Ruiz. Ruiz would hit a double and then John Mayberry would hit a 2 run HR to tie the game in the 9th. Rollins would strike out to end the inning, Remeber those significant runs back in the 5th. That would have been the game either 4-3 or 5-3 for a Rockies win to start of the series against the Phillies. But that was not the case. The game is tied in the 9th. Smith would lead off the 9th with a single. The next 2 batters would go down in order in the 9th.
John Mayberry hitting the tieing HR in the 9th inning.
So the game headed to extra innings. Rex Brothers pitched in the 10th. Shane Victorino would lead off with a solo shot to make the score 4-3 Phillies. That’s all that was need for the Phillies the Rox came up in the 10th and went down in order to end the game. The game looked promising but end on a series of bad pitches and luck for the Rockies. So how important were those runs that did not happen in the 5th, I would say very.
That’s it for this one.
I will be at the next 2 in the series. See Ya at Coors.
