Today was the day that Eddie Butler was waiting for most of his life it was the day of his Major League debut. It was 2 years and 1 day since the day he was drafted in the first round by the Rockies in the 2012 draft.
Here he is throwing his warm ups in the bullpen before the game.
Heading to the dugout before the game with pitching coach Jim Wright and catcher Mike McKenry.
Here he is throwing his first pitch. It was a ball to the Dodgers Dee Gordon. Gordon would then hit a triple and would score when Hanley Ramirez hit a ground ball to Troy Tulowitzki at short. The Dodgers would get a the one run in the inning.
Justin Morneau diving to his left on the Gordon hit down the first base line.
Dee Gordon sliding into third for the first inning triple.
D.J. LeMahieu stretching for a ball fouled off down the first baseline. he missed it the photo is irrelevant to the game, but I liked it so put it into the post.
Yaisel Puig taking a swing during his first inning at bat.
He flew out to Charlie Blackmon in center for the 3rd. out of the inning.
Hyun-Jin Ryu was the starting pitcher for the Dodgers. Charlie Blackmon hit a single to get on base.
Charlie Blackmon dives back to first.
D.J. LeMahieu hit into a double play that got Blackmon out at second and himself at 1st. After a Troy Tulowitzki single, Justin Morneau flew out to end the inning for the Rockies.
In the second inning I decided to head over to the third base line to get a few photos of Butler since he is a right handed pitcher. On my way I took a few shot here he is pitching to Justin Turner.
Here is a photo from the third base side.
So in the second inning Andre either hit a single with 1 out and score on a Drew Butera double to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.
Here is Butler taking his first at bat which he did make contact on this swing, but grounded out to Ramirez at short for the last out of the inning.
The Rockies did have 2 base runners in the inning, Mike McKenry walked and Charlie Culberson hit a single.
The Rockies or the Dodgers did not score again till the Dodgers picked up 2 in the 5th inning, Ryu who lead off the inning with a double scored on Gordons second triple of the game and Gordon score on Ramirez single to left.
Eddie was then taken out of the game by Walt Wiess in the 6th inning after 2 more runs were scored and 2 runners on base. Tommy Kahnle came into pitch for the Rockies faced 2 batters and got them both out.
Butler gave up 6 runs, on 10 hits, walking 3 striking out Yaisel Puig twice. Swinging in the 3rd and looking in the 5th.
In the Rockies half of the 6th inning they scored 2 runs the first a solo home run by Drew Stubbs and the second McKenry scored on a Charlie Culberson triple. 6-2 Dodgers.
Culberson sliding into third base for the triple that scored McKenry.
The Dodgers went on to score a 7th run in the 9th and would end up winning by the 7-2 score. In the bottom of the 9th Troy Tulowitzki got tossed for the second time in the last 3 weeks arguing a strike call. drew Stubbs had also argued a strike call in the 8th inning but did not get tossed. It does seem that the have legitimate arguments about strike in the last few weeks when I catch a replay on T.V. they have been close borderline pitchers but were inconsistent in the way they were called during the same at bat or pervious at bats. Walt Weiss heading out after the Tulo ejection.
The Rockies celebrating their win. This was the Rockies 8th lose in a row.
Overall compared to many pitchers debuts it wasn’t all that different and he did not do any worse then the rest of our starters have in the past few weeks. But now that the debut is out of the way hopefully he will pitch better in his next starts. Good Luck to him and hopefully he will become everything the fans and the organization expect him to be.
Well that is it for this one got 2 more this weekend against the Dodgers.
