My Brain is Idle, I have no title!

DiamondBack Vs.Rockies

Jason Hammel pitched for the Rockies and Josh Collmenter started for the D’backs.

Today was also the day that most of the September call ups are at Coors. Since the Sky Sox and Tulsa seasons are both over. So 2 of them started today one being Jordan Pacheco who is the starting catcher for the Sky Sox. He started at the revolving door we call third base.

Jordan Pacheco and Dexter Fowler during warm ups.

Also called up and starting today was Willin Rosario. Willin is a top prospect for the Rockies  and spent the last 2 seasons as a Tulsa Drillers.

Jason Hammel and Willin Rosario Heading in for the start of the game.

The question as always when Jason Hammel pitches is which Jason Hammel will pitch the dominant throw for strike and make batters cringe or the whoops was that a 4 run inning Jason Hammel.

Hammel got out of the  1st inning letting up a run. (1-0) D’backs

The 1st. inning did not yield any runs for the Rockies neither did the 2,3,4…..

In the second inning the D’backs went down in order including Jason Hammel striking out Chris Young and a great play or maybe a bad running error. When John McDonald hit a ball to the gap in left center and tried to stretch a sure double into a not so quite a triple Seth Smith picked it up and threw it in to The Deuce who than threw it to Pacheco at 3rd. for the out.

The Rockies also went down in order in the 2nd. Giambi grounded out and Seth Smith struck out. The third batter of the game was Willin Rosario for his first Major League at bat. He hit to the warning track in center, but it was caught by the D’backs center fielder Chris Young.

Wilin Rosario fouls a pitch back behind the netting.

Jason Hammel struck out Justin Upton in the 4th. to lead of the inning. Than sat the next 2 down also. In the Rockies 4th Jordan Pacheco would have his first Major League at bat. The result was a little different then Rosario’s. With a 1/1 count he swung and hit to center field for a single. He would advance to third after Hammel would sac bunt and Fowler grounded out, but remain there and not score.

Jordan Pachecos first MLB hit.

Hammel would have another good inning in the 5th Striking out 2 but also walking 1.

The Rockies would have had a productive inning in the 5th. With another first, after Seth Smith lead of with a triple Rosario stepped to the plate and no it wasn’t his first MLB hit he lined out, but Pacheco would ground out  Smith scored for Pachecos first MLB RBI!!!! To tie the game at 1.

Seth Smith slid into home plate after Pacheco hits the ball for Pachecos first RBI

The D’backs would than take the lead again in the 7th scoring 1 run, After a Goldschmidt lead off double, Gerrado Parra hit a single to score him 2 batters later.

Eric Young Jr. pinch hit in the 7th and hit a single.

D’backs Manager Kirk Gibson takes starter Collmenter out of the game in the 7th after Seth Smiths single.

Eric Young Jr. Sliding into home plate and was called out. I think he was safe but my call don’t matter. After seeing the play on TV after I got home it still looked like EYJ was safe.

The D’backs scored one, which on most nights would pretty much all they need to win the game., but not this night. Then there was the Rockies 8th. After Pacheco got out and Kouzmanoff came in to PH for Hammel, Fowler would hit a single. Kouzmanoff would be thrown out at second. Mark Ellis hit a single followed by Cargo single which score Dex to tie the game. Cargo and Ellis would advance a base on a wild pitch with The Deuce at bat. Once again he proved me wrong and hit another prove the Addict wrong 3 run HR.[Love when that happens]. (5-3) Rockies. That was the second time in 2 days he has done that. That was not it Ty Wiggington PH in the fifth spot also hit a single Seth Smith than hit another triple to score Wiggy. (6-3) Rosario walked to get on base for the first time in his MLB career with a walk. Pacheco also hit a single for another RBI his second. (7-3)Rockies. Kouzmanoff came up for the second time in the inning and was hit by a pitch. The next batter Fowler walked and scored Rosario from 3rd.(8-3) Rockies. Ellis ended the inning flying out to center. After 2 out the Rockies sent 10 batters to the plate after their were 2 outs and a total of 13 batters in the inning. Scoring 7 runs this was one of the best innings of baseball I have seen from this team all year, it was great that they were able to put a good rally together.

Dex Scoring the first run in the 8th.

The Deuces HR swing in the 8th

The ball was hit to the near empty pavilions

The Deuce steps on home after the 3 run HR, This time their was no hug for Cargo but a lot of High-Five!!

Wiggington scoring after Seth Smiths 2nd triple of the game.

Pacheco reaching base for his 2nd MLB hit and RBI.

This was probably the best game of the season for Jason Hammel he has pitched consistent occasionally but he was right on keeping his pitch count low for him, not having the blow up inning and striking out (????). Pitching 7 complete innings. In an interview awhile ago after totally falling apart one game he said that is just part of the enigma that is Jason Hammel well this game was a different part. It was the lights out, I am going to get the job done part of the enigma of Jason Hammel. Great game. unfortunately he did not get the win. Matt Belise did, for his 10th win of the season. One more he will be tied for all time wins for the Rockies from the bullpen with 11. Which was done by Gabe White in 2000.

The Rockies won. It really did not make a difference in the standings, But it was agreat game. Hope they can keep this up. If we are not going to win the division or get in the playoffs make it exciting for the rest of the season. Oh and once again we got tacos!!!!!! I Won’t be at the next 2 against the Reds, But will be at Coors on Sunday.

Dinger celebrating the win!!!

The Rockies celebrate the win!

Snowball in the Springs

Las Vegas 51’s Vs. Colorado Sky Sox

After a overcast day in Denver we still headed down to the Spring despite the weather. Denver and Colorado Springs are like different planets when it comes to weather. Sometimes rain in Denver means warmth and sun shine in Colorado Springs, But not this night the further south we traveled the worse it got but we kept going!

Traveling over Monument pass their was almost zero visability. We did debate turning around, but since we traveled that far already we decide to see if they were going to get the game in. Like always in the Springs we headed to the field behind the stadium to see if we could find some Easter Eggs. I found 2 real quick. So Gary X and I headed to go into Security Service Field. We then headed by the dugout to get a few autographs. Robert remained out back looking for more balls. He ended up finding 12 or so.

IMG_4906.JPGIan Stewart was reassigned to the Springs last week. Here he is warming up (well as warm as you could get when its in the mid 30’s). He signed a bunch of auto for us and others in the crowd. He seemed to be up beat and was like Ian of 2 years ago at Coors it realy showed in the game as well.

IMG_4909.JPGEric Young Jr. getting some sprints in during warm ups. When asked what he thought about the weather he said he did not like it and this was Football weather not Baseball weather. He also signed a few autos like always EYJ is one of the nicest players, always signing and talks with the fans in the Springs and at Coors.

IMG_4912.JPG                      Ian Stewart and Cole Garner tossing the ball around.

IMG_4915.JPG Well their were no hosers today but the did put down the stuff that helps keeping the field dry. The grounds crew did a great job of keeping the field in good shape despite the cold weather and snow.

IMG_4920.JPGEric Young Jr. Cole Garner and Chris Nelson chat during warm ups. Note the head gear and turtle necks.
IMG_4924.JPGChris Nelson Heading to the dugout after warm ups. He also stopped for some autographs.

IMG_4930.JPGHere is one of the photos to show off my mad photo skillz. This one is in color BNW to follow.

The Starting Line Ups For The Las Vegas 51’s and The Colorado Springs Sky Sox

IMG_4940.JPG              Ian Stewart leads the team out onto the field for the start of the game.

IMG_4955.JPG                 Ian Stewart getting in some throws to 1st baseman Mike Jacobs

IMG_4969.JPG        Sky Sox Pitcher Josh Mueke Throughs first pitch to Ex. Rockie Scott Podsednik

Mike Jacobs making the play at first.

Scott Posednik lead off the game with a ground out. followed by a Brett Lawrie double and a DeWayne Wise single. Eric Thames would then hit in to a double play the hardway going 3,4,3. in English firstbaseman got the ball threw to second and the back to first. Here is a sequence of photos from the play.

That was the end of the top of the 1st.

Eric Young Jr. Leads of the inning with a bunt attempt that went foul down the first baseline. Gary X jokingly yelled he got it and the 51’s 1st baseman picked it up and tossed it to him. that was the first game ball one of us would recieve. Alfredo Amezaga then hit a double. Charlie Blackmon would flyout Josh Fields would walk and Ian Stewart came to the plate, he would crush a homer to left which would score 3 runs. So Robert head out of the stadium to look for the HR ball. he at first did not find the ball but found 2 more practice balls. He would later find out during another trip that a member of the grounds crew grabbed it and then did give it to him. So for those keeping score at home that is the second ball we got from the game. The 51’s would answer back with 1 of their own in there own in the 2nd inning. The Sky Sox did not score in the second and was the only inning besides the 8th that they did not score a run.

OK here is the BNW photo to show off my mad photo skillz!

IMG_5079.JPG              Chris Nelson Standing at first after his Fielders choice hit in the 3nd inning.

Before the game one of the Sky Sox promotional staff approached Gary X and I about doing one of the contests before the game. I said I did not want to but that was all Gary X. So during the 3rd inning Gary headed down to the field. The game was to identify of a blurry photo of a famous person.
IMG_5093.JPG                                                 So who do you think it is?

So Gary X did get it correct and he won 2 tickets to a future Sky Sox game.

IMG_5100.JPG                                     The photo was of President Barack Obama.

IMG_5108.JPG             Ian Stewart reaching for 1st base after he hits a single in the 3rd inning.

Took a lot of close ups of first base just because, we were so close to the field.

The Sky Sox would score 2 times in the 3rd on a Josh Fields HR and you guest it Robert headed out and got that ball. That was His second HR and the third for the group for the night.

The Sky Sox would then score 1 in the 4th. 5 in the 5th. with the home run parade countinuing with Charlie Blackmon’s first homer of the game making the score 11-1 just incase you lost count!!!!! Yes Robert got that ball also. # 3 for him 4 for the group. Later on a trip to the bathroom Gary X got a foul ball that was hit to the section he was walking past. #5 for the group 2 for him.

IMG_5121.JPG                     Charlie Blackmon catches a fly ball in the 4th inning.

The Sky Sox hit fest countinued with 4 more runs in the 6th. 2 in the 7th. The 51’s also score a run in the 6th and their 3rd run in the 8th. In the 8th inning a 51’s player hit a pop up to the first baseside I was ready to catch it drifted back towards the field and Mike Jacobs bounced it off his glove and into the stands which i picked it up that was my first game ball ever in a Minor or Major League game. That brings the group total to 6. Robert would chase another home run but was confronted by a toddler who kick him in the shin and ran off with the ball. (Thats my story and I am sticking with it). So he did not get it. Sky Sox 1st base caosch Rene Lacheman also tossed up a ball to Gary X. So between the 3 of us we got 7 gameballs. and about 15 easter eggs from the field behind the stadium!

Earlier in the game i got this next sequence it is kind of funny.

The 51’s 3rd baseman making a throw to first.

to the Right: Then the first baseman David Cooper relizing it is going over his head.

Me relizing it is coming at me!!! The ball ended up hitting the wall about 3 or 4 inches from the top.

In the game the game the Sky Sox had at least 5 batters to the plate in every inning but the 8th. Charlie Blackmon would hit 2 home runs. Josh Fields was just a triple shy of the cycle and Ian Stewart was a double away from the cycle going 4 for 4 with 2 walks. Chris Nelson also fell a double short of the cycle. Catcher Jordan Pacheco would go 5 for 5. In all the Sky Sox had 24 hits 17 runs. The 51’s would hit 13 and score 2. This game despite the weather was alot of fun.

                                                        The Final Scoreboard

Jordan Pacheco signing autographs after the game.

The Next Rantics Field trip to the Springs will be next Tuesday. Till then the Rockies will be home for a 3 game series against the Pirates this weekend See Ya at Coors.

Spring Training the Last Hurrah.

This is the last game I attended at Spring training it was at Salt River Fields. Indians Vs. Diamondbacks. This was an off day for the Rockies and I had a 7:30 Flight. Which left me time for 1 more game before i left.

Cleveland Indians Vs. Arizona Diamondbacks March 22, 2011

This day their was a Diamondbacks Batting Practice in Side the stadium. During batting practice I caught 1 Ball with the Salt River Field inaugural season logo.

Before each game the Diamondbacks have 2 players signing autographs on the concourse. This day Juan Miranda & Willie Bloomquist had signed. I had each of them sign a D’backs pocket schedule.
This is a view from behind home plate before the game. After BP I headed over to the Indians dugout , out of habit because it is the same dugout the Rockies use for their home dugout when they play their games at SRF.

Former Rockies and now former Indians player Jason Nix, who was traded to the Blue Jays yesterday. Also in photo Orlando Cabrera.

                                                            Hey look hosers!!!

And here is the BNW to show off my mad photo skillz. Ok this is a photo of Indians top prospect catcher Carlos Santana ( not to be confused with the Guitar player with the same name)

Indians outfielder , 3 time all-star, 2 time gold glove winner and way to good to sign an autograph for any body over the age of 10, Grady Sizemore. He refused to sign autographs on anything but a baseball and it had to be handed to him by a kid. One day some of these players will realize that it is the older people are the fans also and we are the ones that pay for the tickets and are not there to make money off their autograph. We are true fans and are honored to meet players. especially All Stars that we very rarely seen in our National League Stadiums.

Signing autographs for the young fans at Salt River Fields. He did sign an autograph for an adult and the autograph looked like a Pollack painting. It did not even resemble the auto he signed for the kids.

The Indians Logo on the left sleeve. on the right sleeve they had a patch in memory of Bob Feller. Who passed away at the age of 92 this last December.

The umpires for today’s game at home plate.

Diamondbacks starting pitcher Aaron Heilman throwing the first pitch to Indians Grady Sizemore who flew out in this at bat and later struck out. Its called Karma!!!  His replacement and invitee Travis Buck hit 2 home runs and a single in his 3 at bats.

D’backs Justin Upton fouls off a pitch in the 1st inning.

Indians starting pitcher Fausto Carmona. He is throwing warm up pitchers check out the Short Stop in the background he looks like a 4-year-old that needs to pee!!!!!!

Justin Upton scores 1st. run off a Russell Braynan single.

Gerardo Parra Hi fives Upton after scoring the run.

Gerado Parra rounds first as he turns for his double.

Indians Catcher Carlos Santana at bat in the 2nd inning.

Ex Rockie  and Arizona’s 1st. base coach Eric Young.

Indians Carlos Santana gets a hit in the 4th inning.

Indians invitee Jack Hannahan batting in the 7th inning. He struck out this at bat and this photo has no relevance to the game but I remembered seeing him play for Tacoma against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox last year.

A view of a pitch from behind home plate late in the game.

The Cleveland Indians celebrate their 7-3 victory over the Diamondbacks.

The final scoreboard Indians 7 D’Backs 3. attendance for today’s game was 11,794. It was a good day at the ball park for my last game of spring training. Just got to see some baseball on a perfect Scottsdale day.

Fans Leaving Salt River Fields @ Talking Stick

The Final photo I took as I exited Salt River Fields. I left out of the Rockies Gate.

Overall it was a great trip I like the new complex as a stadium. I was a bit perturbed about the lack of player access on the Rockies side but gained a new respect for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Which I hope the Rockies destroy as they are playing them  @ Coors Field for opening day April 1, 2011. The Diamondbacks side of the complex was awesome had great interaction with players and fans and met many of their players and coaches. Most of my time before the games at Salt River Fields was spent on their side. I met many of their coaches that played when i was younger. I got a bunch of autographs from them more on the Diamondbacks side of the complex in a future post.

Well as I get ready for the Rockies workout for charity and Opening Day @ Coors Field I am in full swing and ready to blog to you from Coors Field this season. Hope to see you there.
