St. Louis Cardinals vs. Colorado Rockies
Today I got to the game a little later than usual since I came from work and got out a little late so BP was a bust and I than headed over to the wall.
Todd Helton announced his retirement after the season before the game and he signed autographs.
Colin McHugh was the starting pitcher for the Rockies. This was his second start with the Rockies and only his 5th appearance of the year. Matt Carpenter started this game against McHugh with an infield single.
The single was on this deflected ball by troy Tulowitzki.
Lance Lynn was the starting pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals. He started the game by walking Corey Dickerson, who scored 2 batters later on a Tulo single. (1-0) Rox
Todd Helton came to the plate to a standing ovation from the Coors crowd. he would strike out to end the second inning for the Rockies.
The Cardinals scored a run in the 5th to tie the game at 1.
Colin McHugh pitched 5 complete innings giving up , run 4 hits, striking out 2.
The Rockies got out of the 6th inning with a double play, Matt Holliday hit a ball to….
…to Helton at first. Nolan Arenado was taken out of the game in the 3rd, D.J. LeMahieu moved to third and Josh Rutledge came into play second. Nolan was taken out because of an injury to his finger.
Rutledge getting on base with a single in the 7th inning. The Rockies would score their second run of the game this inning when Wilin Rosario scored on a Charlie Blackmon single (2-1) Rox
Lance Lynn was taken out of the game in the 7th. he pitched 6 1/3. Giving up 6 hits, 2 runs, walked 1 and struck out 4.
After Drew Pomeranz pitched after McHugh and was then replaced by Matt Belilse Chad Bettis pitched in the 8th.
Matt Carpenter hit a double in the 8th to score Pete Kozma.
That would tie up the game at 2.
During a pitching change or middle of an inning they did a Todd Helton plays on the score board.
Batting in the 8th he had one of his not so great plays running into an out at home. The Rockies scored a run on a Wilin Rosario single scoring Tulo that advanced Todd to third.
Charlie Blackmon hit a double to score Tyler Chatwood . Chatwood was pinch running for Rosario. (4-2) Rox
John Axford pitching for the Cardinals in the 8th inning with some snazzy retro high sox. just had to try to work the word snazzy into this post!
Charlie Blackmon scouring after a Ryan Wheeler single that also scored Rutledge. (6-2) Rox
Ryan Wheel giving Rene Lacheman a fist bump after his 2 RBI single.
That is it for this one from the first game of the Cardinals series. The Rockies won this one 6-2.
I was at all 4 of these games and will be getting up the rest of the games and all the remaining games at Coors for the season.
Thanks for checking out the blog and see you at Coors!
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Colorado Rockies
Game 1 of series.
My 48th game at Coors this year. 60th with the Springs and road trip.
The Brewers had some heavy hitters in Batting Practice unfortunately I was unable to snag anything today. Seems like I get shut out more than I get anything these days. I have been to 51 MLB games this year and have 21 baseballs. Most people would think that is pretty good, but for someone who is out there at BP everyday it is not the best of numbers. In past years I have done a lot better in batting practice.
Todays starting pitcher for the Rockies was Tyler Chatwood. He had a incredible outing more on that in a bit. But he did strike out 3 of the 4 batters he faced in the 1st. Tyler had 5 strike outs in the first 2 innings. At first I wondered if the Umpire just had a huge strike zone or if he was really pitching that well.
I first wondered about the strike zone because the Brewers starter Wily Peralta also struck out 2 in the first inning. Then I did realize that the strike outs were mostly swinging and there were not many called strikes There were only 4 called strikes between the 3 batters that Chatwood faced in the first and only Dexter Fowler struck out looking during his at bats. So it was defiantly a very good start for Tyler.
The Rockies got some runs in the 2nd inning, it started with Michael Cuddyer walked to lead off the inning followed by a Todd Helton single. Wilin Rosario would also walk to load the base’s.
The fourth batter of the inning was Charlie Blackmon who popped out to Jean Segura at short.
Nolan Arenado would take a swing and drop the ball and it would deflect off Peralta.
Arenado running to first as the ball rolls slowly towards Ricky Weeks at second.
Weeks fielding the deflected ball hit by Arenado. That would score Cuddyer from third.
Helton and Rosario at home after scoring on the Chatwood double.
D.J. LeMahieu would get the hit to score the Rockies fourth run of the inning. Arenado scored on this hit to short that would get Fowler out at second, but still allow Arenado to score 4-0 Rockies.
Tulo would hit to short to get LeMahieu out at second to end the inning. Tulo was the ninth batter of the inning.
Not much happened in the 3rd. Chatwood got all 3 Brewers he faced in the inning to ground out and would then strike out an additional 2 batters in the 4th. That was his 6th and 7th of the game.
The Rockies had another productive inning in the 4th scoring 4 runs. Charlie Blackmon started the inning with single and Arenado followed with a single both of them and LeMahieu would score. Dexter Fowler would be tagged out at home on a Tulo single trying for the third run of the inning. But that did not happen till Michael Cuddyer hit a single to short and LeMahieu scored.
Chatwood would give up 2 runs in the 6th but stayed in the game and pitched the 7th inning. He would only give up the 2 runs and 6 hits striking out 11 and walking no batters he really attacked the strike zone and kept the ball low which resulted into many ground outs when he was not striking out the Brewers. There was absolutely no fly outs to the out field. The only 2 outs that were in the air was a line out to Helton in the 5th and another to Arenado in the 7th.
Manny Corpas came in and finished the game for the rockies he also pitched well he struck out 2 and allowed a run on a 9th inning solo home run to Carlos Gomez. he did allow a hit in the 8th but worked his way out of it with a force out and a double play to end the inning.
The hit was by Rickie Weeks.
He was out at second on a Norichika Aoki hit to Tulo at short. Weeks came in a little hard and Tulo did not throw to first but got the lead runner. Tulo did have a second opportunity for a double play on a Segura hit which did result into a inning ending double play.
Manny Corpas came up for his own at bat in the 9th but struck out swinging on 3 Pitches.
Burke Badenhop pitched the 8th and 9th for the Brewers. He was the Brewers third pitcher of the game for the Brewers. He only faced 6 batters in the 2 innings. Peralta was taken out of the game in the 4th inning and replaced by Rob Wooten.
The Rockies won this one 8-3 in this incredible performance by Tyler Chatwood 11 strike outs and 2 RBI’s and pitching through the 7th. Not a bad night for him.
The Rockies celebrate this win against the Brewers still playing catch up with this home stand that won’t seem to go away the Rockies have been on the road 4 days and I still have 2 games to go!!!
The Rockies have been in Atlanta and it has not been a great series they got swept losing all for and head to Pittsburgh for a weekend series against the Pirates who are playing very well.
Lets hope it goes a little better for the Rockies against them then in Atlanta.
Well that is it for this one. Got some games coming up with Minor League affiliates while the Rockies are on the road!
See you around!
Cubs vs. Rockies
Game 3 of series.
Ok I think I got this my43rd game at Coors, 52nd with road trip and 55th with Colorado Springs! Just a little baseball!!!!!
This being a Sunday and a bobble head day the day started early the parking even with the free Sunday parking was difficult. Even with getting to Coors around 10:15 AM it was already limited and I had to park a few blocks further than normal. The lines were already starting this early. Todays Bobble head was Troy Tulowitzki’s so that brought out a lot of people to get his bobble head.
I did not care that it was his I just need it to get the whole collection. If I did not need it for the set it is not a must have. Not my favorite player and I think it looks like he is dropping a deuce!!
Instead of throwing out the first pitch he caught the first pitch which confirmed my theory that he is a catcher!!
It being a Sunday it was autograph Sunday the signers today were Jhoulys Chacin, Drew Pomeranz, Josh Rutledge and Josh Outman. I had my Mom get on Drews line and she got him on my 16×20 and I got a card signed by Jhoulys.
Tyler Chatwood was the starting pitcher for the Rockies here he is throwing the first pitch to the Cubs Luis Vilbuena. Chatwood faced 6 Cubs batters in the first inning Valbuena grounded out, he did walk Nate Schierholtz and struck out Junior Lake to end the inning.
Charlie Blackmon started in right field today and batted second for the Rockies. Dexter Fowler started the game striking out, but Blackmon would hit a double and Score on a Carlos Gonzalez single.
The ball Charlie hit to left for his double.
The Next batter after Charlie was Troy Tulowitzki
Swinging a little wildly at a pitch he made contact and grounded out to Cubs short stop Starling Castro.
castro throwing over to first base to get Tulo out.
Anthony Rizzo making the catch at first.
Carlos Gonzalez hit a single and scored on a Michael Cuddyer double for a 2-0 Rockies lead.
Edwin Jackson was the starting pitcher for the Cubs.
Cuddy heading to second for his double.
Nolan Arenado popped out to end the inning.
Here he is watching the ball go up in the air.
Darwin Barney Making the catch just past the infield grass.
After a few innings we decided to get a different vantage point for the game some place the group normally doesn’t watch a game and that is in the 3rd level.
With moving and not too much happening I did not get to many photos this is from Cargo scoring in the 6th inning on a Nolan Arenado inside the park home run wait triple no wait I mean double. OK confused yet I was also! Nolan Arenado hit a ball to Junior Lake in centerfield on the throw in the ball passed the infield and hit of the wall Cargo and Michael Cuddyer scored and the ball rolled into the Rockies dugout.
Michael Cuddyer scoring.
Nolan Rounding third.
Nolan at third while the umps discuss the play.
Now why was he not aloud to go home and how did he end up back on second? Well he had to go back to the base which the Cubs last had control of the ball. Which means he had to go to second because the place he was at the last time the Cubs had control of the ball. That was at second when Lake threw the ball. So he had to go back to second. So basically the rule allows you to throw the ball away if you think there will be a inside the park home run. What really confesses me is that if Arenado had to go back 2 bases how does the 2nd run count. Shouldn’t Cuddy have to go back to third base also. Not that I don’t want the Rockies to get the run but the rule makes no sense and is slightly confusing.
Walt Weiss comes out to talk to the Umps about the call. I think he needs to get a little bit more animated when he goes out to argue calls. The tough guy arm cross is not working I think he has to go out there with a little fire in the eyes!! I think he has to you tube Earl Weaver or Billy Martin!
Nolan returning to second base.
I think if he should of got the cycle just because he got a home run, triple and a double which was ruled a single with advancement on the throw all in one at bat!!!! (Embrace the Sarcasm)!
After Tyler Chatwood pitched 6 innings allowing 2 runs both in the 6th inning Josh Outman came into pitch in the 7th. Antony Rizzo hit a solo home run and Nate Schierholtz scored on a Darwin Barney sac fly to left. Schierholtz got to third an a bad throw to second on a pick off attempt. After facing 3 batters in the inning Outman was taken out and Edgmer Escolona came into the game.
Edgmer pitching in the 7th inning.
James Russell came in to pitch for the Cubs in the 8th. He only pitched to Charlie Blackmon and then the Cubs made another pitching change and put in Matt Guerrier.
With Rafael Betancourt on the DL because of an Appendectomy Rex Brothers came in to pitch in the 9th and got his 5th save of the year.
Junior Lake swing for the final out of the game.
The Rockies went on to win 4-3.
That is it for this series at Coors.
I have the Marlins series coming up. So far They have played 3 in that series.
Well See you at Coors!!!!
Remember sometimes this week I will be announcing the prize for the trivia contest!!
If you want to see the question check out this post from earlier in the week: http://roxaddict.mlblogs.com/2013/07/23/roxivus-whatever-that-means-and-game-one-of-the-cubs-series/
Phillies vs. Rockies
My 39th of the year at Coors.
I came directly from work and made it to the stadium about 20 minutes before 1st pitch I heard the batting practice was really good once again!
Here is starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood heading out from the bull-pen with the starting pitcher entourage! Wilin Rosario, Pitching Coach Jim Wright and Jerry Weinstein. I take this photo almost every game I go to, but this group always has the best ones. Very animated and lively with a lot of interaction.
Tyler Chatwood throwing the first pitch to the Phillies Ben Revere. Now over this weekend I met and sat by a lot of Phillies fans and most of them have been complaining about this guy. He doesn’t hit home runs! Well he is the leadoff man. Another he is never on base well the three game I have seen him play he hit a bunch of single not to be a spoiler for my own post but he went 3 for 5 this game. Not what they were saying about him must be Coors!!!! Another did say has never hit a home run and well he still has not. I thought everyone hit home runs at Coors! Oooh wait the Phillies haven’t hit any this series yet. Yes, this is sarcasm having to do with that conversation everybody always has about Coors Field and why we hit well which I had with a Phillies fan this weekend.
Ben Rever diving back to first base after his first inning single. He did go on and steal second and advanced to third on a error and scored. I would say he did his job. It would have saved time if he just hit the home run! What does everyone think their leadoff man is like Dexter Fowler.
Carlos Gonzalez Throwing the Ryan Howard hit ball to left.
Wilin Rosario grabbing the ball and tagging out Michael Young at home.
The Phillies scored 1 run in the first and avoided a 2nd on a great throw by Cargo.
Jonathan Pettibone was the starting pitcher for the Phillies. After Josh Rutledge popped out to first for the first out of the inning the Rockies got all over Pettibone.
So the second batter of the game Jordan Pacheco hit a single.
Followed by a Cargo double.
Scoring Pacheco. Pacheco making the turn at third before scoring the Rockies first run of the game/inning.
The next batter Michael Cuddyer hit a single. Scoring Cargo. (2-1) Rox
Rosario hit a triple, here he is after sliding into third base.
Tyler Colvin than sent one Opposite field for his third home run since his return to the Rockies. (5-1) Rox
Tyco and Rosario after Tycos 2 run home run.
The Rockies were not done just yet Nolan Arenado hit a single he did get out at second on a D.J. LeMahieu single.
D.J. then stole second base.
He scored on a Tyler Chatwood single. Chatwood has to be one of the best hitting pitchers in the game currently. If he is not he has to be pretty close to it. He is batting.438 (7 for 16) with 5 RBI’s.
Chatwood advanced to third on a really bad throw showed by a really bad photo!
The ball got passed third base man Michael Young and Lemahieu scored as the ball rolled. So he did not really score on the Chatwood single it was on the bad play after it!
Here is what happened: Chatwood grounded to Ryan Howard who throw home D.J. turned back to third and Catcher Umberto Quintero over threw 3rd. D.J. scored Chatwood moved to 3rd.
The Rockies score 6 in the first with great hitting by most of the lineup in this inning. They did have 10 batters in the inning. Rutledge ended the inning lining out to second.
It was visit Rapid City Day at Coors when we arrived they gave us poster with Dante Bichette, Andre Galarraga, Todd Helton and Vinny Castillia on them, looking like Mt. Rushmore. The other side had a photo of the real Mt. Rushmore. Then they had the president from the Rapid City South Dakota State tourism there as well they were giving way trips to Rapid City.
The Phillies did pick up a run in the 2nd. On a Ben Revere single scoring Umberto Quintero from 1st. The Rockies did not score in the second (6-2) Rox
Rosario followed his first inning triple with a 3rd inning double and again doubled in the 4th. Scoring in both innings. The Rockies only scored one in the 3rd. but it got us tacos (7-2) Rox
Chatwood hit another single in the 4th once again contributing to the offence.
Chatwood beating the throw from Jimmy Rollins to Ryan Howard for the single! (10-2) Rox
The pitchers continued to contribute offensively in the 6th when Adam Ottavino got on base on an error. He ended up on second. He would remain there as Josh Rutledge struck out for the second time in this game and his fifth time not getting on base. He ended up 0 for 6 on the day. The pitchers were 3 for 3 with a sac bunt!
Ryan Howard striking out to end the game. The Rockies won this one 10-5. The Phillies got 3 runs in the 8th off Chris Volstad.
Well That is it for this one. The Rockies tie the series with the Phillies at 1 apiece. Got one more game from this series to go and It was a great one. A Phillie Phinally hits a homer.
Also looks like the first stop on my road trip will be in St. Louis!
Remember to follow me the whole trip on twitter @roxaddict.
Now with the presidents theme they made the players look like presidents. Here are the photos they had on the board during their at bats!
Here are the photos!
Nationals vs. Rockies
My 37th game at Coors this year.
This was a day game so there was no batting practice but usually an opportunity to get a few autographs. To start EB and I decided to get to the stadium early to try to get Davey Johnson’s autograph I wanted it because he was the Manager of the 1986 Mets and EB wanted it because he has a collection of manager signed baseballs. Shortly after we arrived Davey Johnson arrived and there were only 3 of use there and he stopped to sign. I had him sign his book “The Bats” then asked him if he would also sign a ball for me and he did. It was awesome that he was cool and di the 2 for me. Jason Werth also signed and I had him sign a card for me. He was really cool while he signed and talked about various thing we were talking to him about one the really cool ring he was wearing which looked like a finger on a knight’s armor. Other Nationals also stopped that I either did not have anything for or did not know who he was. after being out there for 2 1/2 hours we headed into Coors. We waited by the Rockies wall to see if any pitchers would sign and a few did. Including catcher Yorvit Torrealba who just grabbed a chair from the photo pit and started signing.
Before he signed he di a little work with catching coach Jerry Weinstein.
Here they are talking about throwing.
Rafael Betancourt was out throwing and when I asked him how his leg was he said good and seemed to be throwing well.
After being at the stadium almost 5 hours it was time for the game. Jeff Francis was the starter for the Rockies. After his last start he really needed a good start and the first inning was about as good as you could get, Denard Span the lead off batter for the Nationals grounded out and then Francis struck out Jeff Kobernus and Ryan Zimmerman.
The Rockies Dexter Fowler got things going quickly in the bottom of the inning, hitting a double to right.
Jason Werth playing it off the wall.
Dex heading to second.
Right after the double the injuries started. With Dex on second and Jordan Pacheco batting Carlos Gonzalez was struck by a foul ball in the foot.
Here he is being attended to by the training staff. He was taken out of the game and replaced by Tyler Colvin. Pacheco grounded out and Tyler hit a single scoring Dex.
Tulo struck out.
Here he is walking away from home as the umpire gives the out. Michael Cuddyer would line out to second to end the inning.
With 2 out in the 2nd Ian Desmond got the Nationals first hit of the game. He or Anthony Rendon who also hit a single would score. The Nationals would score 2 in the 3rd on a Zimmerman 2 run home run with Ross Detwiler on base. (2-1) Nats.
In the 3rd the injury bug struck again when Dex got hit in the hand on a bunt attempt on a ball thrown inside.
Here is a photo of his wrapped finger after the game at Jackson’s. Photo is from Gary X. Dex is listed as day-to-day. After this happened he did take the field for the 4th but came out of the game after that.
D.J. LeMahieu slides into second after a 4th inning double. The Rockies scored 2 runs before this hit. (3-2) Rox
The first was scored on a Michael Cuddyer triple scoring troy Tulowitzki. Cuddy scored on a Wilin Rosario ground out to short.
Wilin Rosario at the plate with Davey Johnson and other members of the Nationals coaching staff in the background in the 6th inning.
Nationals pitching coach comes out to talk to Greg Stamen who replaced Detwiler in the 6th inning.
Things got really interesting in the 7th when Wilton Lopez can]me into pitch for the Rockies in the 7th. After Ian Desmond started the inning with a single he would move to second on a balk. He would than score on a second balk to Steve Lombardozzi scoring Desmond to tie the game at 3. Wilton than argued the call and was ejected and then Jim Wright was also ejected while still in the dugout for arguing the balk calls. It also looked like Dante Bichette also had words with the umpire but was not ejected from the game. I tried to get photos of this happening down the wall towards the dugout but some dumbass sitting a section over felt the need to turn towards my camera and make faces for me to take a photo of him and his friend, yes while this was going on. He got mad when I told him to get out-of-the-way and I was not taking his photo. Some people have no F’n clue sometimes.
The National would take a lead in the 8th inning Roger Bernadina hit a double and would score on a Zimmerman double.
The safe call at second on the Bernadina double.
Ryan Zimmerman at the plate in the 8th inning.
Jason Werth running to first in the 8th he did ground out to short but thought this was a good shot of him.
In the 8th Troy Tulowitzki suffered the third Rockies injury in the 8th after diving for a Ian Desmond hit ball to him. The Nats scored 2 to take a 5-3 lead.
Add a U to this scoring symbol and it explains most of this game for the Rockies!
Kurt Suzuki grounded to second to end the 8th inning.
The Rockies did a lot of juggling in the field in the 9th inning.
Here are the changes in positions from the Rockies game day! it is easier than trying to explain it!
Defensive switch from left field to shortstop for Jonathan Herrera.
- Defensive switch from first base to left field for Jordan Pacheco.
- Yorvit Torrealba remains in the game as the first baseman.
- Pitching Change: Rex Brothers replaces Matt Belisle, batting 9th.
- The Rockies would score a run in the 9th on a Todd Helton pinch hit single scoring Nolan Arenado for the Rockies 4th run of the game. That was their final run and the game would end in the Nationals favor. It was a crazy and bizarre game for the Rockies losing 3 players to injury and a few really weird balk calls that resulted in the tying run giving the Nationals a better opportunity to set up a win. Dex and Cargo are listed day-to-day and Tulo will be out 6 weeks or so with a broken rip. Just would not be a season with out Tulo being out for an extended amount of time!
- In the mix of injury and stupid things happening to relief pitchers Jeff Francis did have a good start pitching 6 innings, striking out 8 and giving up only 2 runs on 5 hits. 1 hit and the 2 runs were on the Ryan Zimmerman 2nd inning home run.
- Since I am behind a few days I do know Cargo was back in the line up the next day and Dex was used to pinch run. So that is it for this series that the nationals won 2 of 3 and next is the Phillies this weekend.
- See You At Coors.
Houston Astros vs. Colorado Rockies
Today because of rain in the area they had an Early Batting Practice and by the time the gates opened at 4:30 the tarp was on the field. So once again this is a game with a loss of batting practice. I feel like there are game without batting practice more than game with these days.
Tyler Chatwood throwing the first pitch to the Astros Brandon Barnes. Barnes would ground out and Tyler would strike out the next two batters Jose Altuve and Jason Castro.
Barnes taking a swing at a Chatwood pitch.
Nolan Arenado fielding the grounder to third.
Jordan Pacheco making the grab for the out.
Chatwood continued to pitch well throughout the game he did let up a run in the 2nd and again struck out 2 of the Astros batters. He also struck out 1 in the 3rd 2 in the 4th and 5th. The Astros did get a single run in the 6th.
Troy Tulowitzki got the Rockies on the board in the 4th with a solo home run to tie the game at 1.
Here he is with arms raised entering the dugout after hitting his home run.
He would be responsible for getting the Rockies go ahead run in the 5th also, by hitting a double scoring Pacheco (2-1) Rockies.
Tulo at second after his 5th inning RBI double.
Jim Wright visiting the mound in the 6th inning.
Chatwood would not return to pitch in the 7th inning. He had a pretty good game striking out 10 Astros his career high and the first time since last July since a Rockies started had 10 strike outs in a game. The last 10 strike out game was on May 14, 2012 by Christian Friedrich. Thanks @rockies twitter feed for this tid bit of info!
Carlos Gonzalez throwing ball back after making a catch in the 6th inning.
Jose Altuve scoring on the sac fly to Cargo hit by Jason Castro. The game was than tied at 2.
Edgmer Escolona coming out of the game in the 8th inning.
The final out of the 8th made by Rex Brothers as Altuve gets caught between third and home. The Astros did get a run in the 8th. Marwin Gonzalez scored on a J.D. Martinez single. (3-2) Astros
Then it was time for what would be my favorite part of being dragged off the field and that is the free tour of the bullpen!
I give this guy credit he did come from center field and made it to dirt!
Todd came into see if he could get anything going in the 8th he would walk and Jonny Herrera would come in to pinch run for him. With the walk Todd and Dexter Fowler the Rockies could not produce a run in the inning. Pacheco did hit hard but it was caught by Altuve. If it cleared to the outfield it may have been a 2 run single with the speed that was on base.
The Astros scored 2 additional runs in the 9th inning. The first a leadoff home run by CarlosPena and Jimmy Paredes got on base with a single and scored on a Barnes single.
The Rockies attempt of a comeback was weak.
Cargo flew out to center.
Tulo did get his 3rd RBI of the game with another solo home run. Wondering why he and the infielders are looking into left field this time well it was not another opposite field home run like in the 4th.
It was another idiot. This time coming from the right field side. He did not make it as far. The no shoes may have been part of it.
Rock on Dumbass thanks for coming!!! Most of all thanks for giving yourself the opportunity to ever return!
So that is it the Rockies lost 6-3 to the Astros. There is one more in this inter-league series with the Astros.
See You at Coors.
Giants vs. Rockies game 3 of the series.
My 22nd game at Coors this year!
After Friday Nights Win it was great to be back at Coors. With the series split the Rockies need this one against the 2 time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum. Tyler Chatwood was called back up from Colorado Springs after being up for a 2 starts one against the Braves at Coors and one against the Dodgers in L.A. it was a very good start for Tyler. The Rockies did win both games he pitched this year.
Here is a photo of Jerry Weinstein, Wilin Rosario, Tyler Chatwood and Jim Wright coming in from bullpen. Really like the contrast in the photo and I don’t mean of the BNW, I mean how Tyler is in Game mode with his coach and Wilin and Jerry are just have a good time laughing and smiling.
he would get out at second when Pablo Sandoval hit into a double play. That ended the first inning for the Giants.
Tim Lincecum who has been one of the coolest away player to the fans signing a lot throwing his first pitch of the game to Dexter Fowler.
He than stole second and advanced to third on a really bad of the mark by Buster Posey that Marco Scutaro could just not get to and it headed to center field.
Troy Tulowitzki would ground out to Brandon Crawford at short.
Crawford throwing to first to get Tulo at first.
Buster Posey get caught stealing at third in the 2nd inning this was an important out. It would have resulted into a second run in the inning. Posey would have scored on a Brandon Belt double. Belt did score on a Gregor Blanco single for a Giants 1-0 lead.
Posey being called out by third bas umpire Bob Davison.
Troy Tulowitzki does the cross body throw to first.
To get Hunter Pence out at first in the 3rd inning.
The Rockies did take the lead in the 3rd inning. The scored 3 runs on good old fashion small ball it is amazing that it actually works a lead off walk to Charlie Blackmon, he would advance on a Tyler Chatwood sac-bunt and would score on a Fowler double to left field. Fowler scored on a hit ball by Josh Rutledge to Tim Lincecum who had a bad throw to first and advanced to third base. It was a real rough night for Tim he had a few footing issues while pitching once just slipping and the second in the 4th when he pretty much fell off the mound held onto the ball and it was called a baulk. It did advance Nolan Arenado who was at first after he hit a single. After the 4th inning the Rockies had a 4-1 lead.
Here is Josh Rutledge sliding into third after the Lincecum error in the 4th inning.
After a very good start for Tyler Chatwood after the pinch hitter Nick Noonan was announced the Rockies made a switch of their own. Bringing in Josh Outman. The Giants than pulled Noonan and had Joaquin Arias pinch hit. So after a good outing where Chatwood only allowed 1 run in 5 2/3rd innings on 7 hits and walking and striking out 4 batters. It is great to see he held the base runners from 7 hits from not scoring.
The Rockies did score 2 runs in the 5th inning when Wilin Rosario hit a 2 run home run to get just a little more insurance runs. (6-1) Rox
Dexter Fowler getting into the head of Giants relief pitcher Jean Machi in the 7th inning. Who was called up from their triple A affiliate Fresno Grizzly’s that day. He did go on to steal second and score 1 more run on a Rosario single. That was Rosario’s 3rd RBI of the game. The Rockies went on to score 3 more runs in the 8th inning. Before the Rockies got their 3 the Giants did manage a run also in the 8th. Hunter Pence scored on a Brandon Crawford single. Pence lead off the inning with double.
Todd Helton flips the ball to Wilton Lopez to end the game. Lopez replaced Outman in the 8th. He finished the 8th and pitched well enough to only face 3 batters. the Rockies won their second game in a row against the Giants and is the first time they won 2 in a row in about 3 weeks. great to see the bats start to come alive again. The Giants throwing errors and miss played balls helped but we had to hit them to the right spot for those to make the difference and using them to the Rockies advantage. The Rockies 1 this game 10-2 and out scored them 20-11 in the last 2 games. After this game the Rockies are now 2 games behind the 1st Place Diamondbacks and 1 game behind the Giants in the National League west. This week will only keep getting more interesting as we face the Diamondbacks for 3 games.
There is one more from this series a Sunday game and a Dante Bichette bobble head day!
See You at Coors!
