Braves vs. Rockies
Game 4 of series
Jhoulys Chacin started this day game for the Rockies. Chacin was in his old form for this game he was getting ahead in counts early against the Braves batters and his stuff was really working he retired the Braves in order including a strike out to B.J. Upton.
Here is D.J. LeMahieu getting the first out of the inning Jason Heyward.
Ervin Santana started for the Braves and Charlie Blackmon did what he does best and that is lead off with an extra base hit.
Charlie just being Nazty as he makes the big turn around first and heading to second!
The Rockies bats were not able to get him home for a run as Santana had a good inning after giving up the double. He got the next 3 batters out in order including striking out both Josh Rutledge and Wilin Rosario.
Corey Dickerson tried to stretch a double into a triple and did not miss it by much to lead off the 2nd inning, he was out at third and the Rockies would go down in order again and it looked like the offensive slump would return. The Bats came alive in the 3rd as D.J. LeMahieu started the inning with a walk not exactly a bat coming alive but a base runner. He was caught stealing and Jhoulys Chacin got on base with a single and Blackmon came up with a Chacin on and even better then hitting doubles and that is hitting home runs and that put the Rockies on the board with a 2-0 lead. Blackmon has 10 double this season and 12 homers.
Drew Stubbs takes a swing in the 4th inning that resulted in the third out of the inning.
The Rockies did get a 3rd run in the 6th inning a solo home run by Justin Morneau. The Rockies had a 3-0 lead.
Corey Dickerson slides into home for the Rockies first of 5 runs in the 7th inning.
Jordan Walden came in with 1 out in the 7th to replace Ervin Santana. Santana went 6 1/3rd. giving up 6 runs on 7 hits. striking out 8 but giving up 2 homers and walking 2.
Chacin went a full 7 and gave up only 2 hits. He struck out 5 and walked 2. Great to see him pitch so well, it has been a while.
Justin Morneau stands on first after a 2 run single. Those runs gave the Rockies a 6 run lead.
Wilin Rosario watches a pitch go by during his 7th inning at bat he was the 9th batter for the Rockies in the inning. In total they scored 5 runs and took a 8-0 lead.
Adam Ottavino pitched the 8th inning for the Rockies And gave up 3 runs to the Braves 2 on a home run to B.J. Upton.
Tulo tosses gum out to the crowd between innings.
After taking a foul tip off the mask during Corey Dickerson at bat Braves catcher Gerald Laird got hit by Dickerson’s swing.
The next pitch Braves relief pitcher David Carpenter hit Dickerson with a pitch and this is where the game became crazy. After Dickerson had words with Carpenter…
Walt came out and pretty much had words with everyone! Yelling at Carpenter and the Umpire.
He was then tossed from the game. Carpenter was immediately thrown out after Dickerson was hit.
Arguments continued all over the place and the Rockies bench got warned to stay in the dugout.
Walt Continued to argue.
Walt Leaving the field. This was the most fired up I have ever seen Walt it was nice to see.
That Renee Lachman gave the ump an ear full. That must have been an interesting conversation!
Anthony Varvaro replaced Carpenter and the Rockies picked up another 2 runs in the inning.
This was only half of the ejections for the inning. After the Braves came up to the plate and Nick Masset came into pitch…
He hit Evan Gattis who was the 3rd Braves batter in the inning with 2 outs.
Nick Masset and Bench Coach Tommy Runnels were then ejected for a total of 3 Rockies being thrown out and a total of 4 players and coaches.
Masset standing on the mound after hitting Gattis.
Matt Belisle came into pitch the last out for the Rockies.
Lach pulled Terry Pendelton over to the side after the game. Just could imagine what was said.
The Rockies won this game 10-3.
This seems to be a result of a lot of frustration over the past few weeks. Dickerson being hit was also the second Rockies batter to be hit in as many days. Josh Rutledge was hit in the head on Wednesday. The Braves thought Dickerson hit Laird on purpose, now Dickerson is a very good player and is very talented with the bat, but for him to be able to foul tip a ball and intentionally hit catcher would take an incredible amount of talent and skill. This was one of the craziest game I have seen in a long time. It was nice to see a little fire in Walt and hopefully this win is the boost this team needs to get things together. As I am writing this the Rockies have won 2 game in the 9th inning against the Giants in San Francisco. This is the first series win there in over 4 years and are going for the sweep later this afternoon. The Rockies are now 2 games under .500 with a 33-35 record and are 9.5 games behind the giants and are 3rd place in the National League West.
So that is it for this one I have another post coming from Fridays night game in the Springs.
San Diego Padres Vs. Colorado Rockies
Spring Training 2014 Game 1
Salt River Fields At Talking Stick.
After Flying from Denver and arriving in Phoenix I headed straight to Salt River Fields. I headed over to the field where player were doing batting practice. I met up with EB and Smitty. I was also surprised to see Gary and Ophelia who I know from Coors. They are down here for the first time. Got a few autos on my 2014 team project which is a 16×20 of the outside of Coors. Jorge De La Rosa was the first person I got on it. Within minutes I had gotten 4 more player Chad Bettis, Jhoulys Chacin and Rex Brothers. After the player left the field we headed into the stadium after a batting practice in the stadium I got Justin Morneau, Charlie Blackmon, D.J. LeMahieu and Walt Weiss. So I had gotten 9 players on it. I also Got Eddie Butler and Jonathon Gray on baseballs thanks to EB because I left my case of baseballs in the car. Both of them in scripted them with first round draft pick.
This year I brought my Mom to spring training, it is the first time she has ever been to spring training.
While Jorge was signing autographs and noticed that Jorge had a bat that was in his bag and broken. So he ask what he was going to do with it and then asked if he wanted it and EB got the bat. Here he is inside the stadium taking a photograph of it.
So after getting some autographs out of the way it was time for some baseball!!! Franklin Morales started for the Rockies here he is throwing the first pitch to the Padres Evereth Cabrera. Cabrera swung at this first pitch and grounded out to second. The next batter Will Venable also took a swing at the first pitch and grounded back to Morales for 2 outs on 2 pitches. The 3rd batter of the inning Chris Denorphia swung at 3 pitches and missed to strike out it was a five pitch inning for Morales and I was impressed by the quick work he made in the inning.
The Rockies lead-off man Charlie Blackmon lined out to short and Michael Cuddyer grounded out to third for a quick 2 outs for the Rockies. Carlos Gonzalez hit a double and Troy “The Deuce Tulowitzki came through in the clutch and ……oh wait no he grounded out to second to end the inning.
After giving up 2 runs in the 2nd a home run by Ryan Jackson. The third a wild pitch by Morales scoring Rene Rivera from third.
So after the very good first inning and the really bad 2nd inning Morales was taken out of the game with the Rockies down 3-0
Gregg Burke would come into the game to finish the inning. He face Xavier Nady and got him to ground out on 1 pitch to end the inning.
After Tommy Kahnle pitched the 4th and Tyler Matzek pitched the 5th Matt Belisle pitched in the 6th inning.
While walking around we notice one time all time saves leader (601) Trevor Hoffman was in the S.D. Padres bullpen. So EB had a baseball signed and later on Smitty had him sign a Padres hat. I already got him at Coors a few years ago. He is now 2nd on the list to Mariano Rivera. The guy in 3rd is Lee Smith (478) who played for the Cubs.
Wilton Lopez pitching in the 7th inning for the Rockies.
The Rockies would give up 2 more runs in the 8th inning. The first when Rymer Liriano hit a double scoring Reymond Fuentes and the second when Kyle Blanks also hit a double scoring Liriano. (5-2) Padres. Brookes Brown was pitching the 8th for the Rockies.
Rosell Herrera playing short stop late in the game at short stop.
Yohan Flande pitching in the 9th inning for the Rockies.
That is it for day one of spring training next up I go and check out the Cubs new spring training facility in Mesa.
See you around!!!
Me and EB sending props to the Rockpile Ranter! Miss ya Brotha!

Padres vs. Rockies
My 2nd game of the season!
This was a very interesting day at the ballpark. The Rockies continued to celebrate their 20th Anniversary with the 1993 Rockies players signing autographs at 3 different spots on the concourse. I did not see a single part of the game till the 4th inning, besides the little bit I saw on monitors around the stadium. I did not get my 1st pitch I was behind a wall on the pavilions for that. But with good reason I was waiting on-line for the first of the 3 spots for signing. The line I started on had Andy Ashby, Rick Mathews, David Neid and Eric Young Senior. I had everyone except David Neid sign my 1993 opening Day photo. I had Neid sign a ball that I am also having Todd Helton sign, they are the only 2 players ever to wear the #17 in Rockies history and I am pretty sure nobody else ever will.
Here are all 4 of them signing. Beside having what you had signed they had team photos of the 1993 Team. If you look at my post on the 1993 Opening day I had a photo of Alan Ashby signing over the dugout at Shea. http://roxaddict.mlblogs.com/2013/04/04/1993-opening-day-at-shea/ here is a link for that post if you did not see it. Ashby is in the foreground Rick Mathews is to his right followed by David Neid and Eric Young. I also had Eric Young sign a photo of my photo of him and EYJ I took last year that he really like and I offered him one and mention that Junior did have a copy of it! I told him I would give him one if he decided he wanted one on Sunday.
Rick Mathews signing my 1993 photo.
As I was walking away from the table a woman ask if she could see the photo and I said yes and she said her husband was in it. It was David Neids wife and she introduce me to her son that was born slightly after opening day and is going to 20 years old. That really kind of put things in perspective. After we ran over to the area under the Rockpile where the second group was signing. At that table was Gerald Clarke, Mark Knudson, Armando Reynoso and Freddie Benivides. They all spoke to everyone and they all commented and really liked the photo. Gerald Clarke commented and asked me about my goatee, wanting to know how long that took. All the players thought it was cool when I mentioned that I was actually at the game at Shea.
Here are the guys signing, Left to right Freddie Benvides, Mark Knudson, Armando Reynoso and Gerald Clarke. Thanks to Garret who got me a Mark Knudson card signed and also helped get my EY photo signed. This was close to the entrance but you than had to go through a maze of ropes to actually get back to the table for auto graphs while that inning the Rockies scored their first run on a Michael Cuddyer single, Josh Rutledge scored.
I was by one of the T.V’s when that happened and here is a photo of the replay!
Gerald Clarke signing my photo. This line took the longest of the three but it was pretty much because They all spot to everyone for about 30 seconds to a minute which was cool.
we than headed over to the third and final group which was located by the B Gate and The Blue Moon. In that group was Bryn Smith, Jerry Royster, Jayhawk Owens, Bruce Ruffin and Steve Reed.
That is Bryn Smith in the corner I had him sign my 1993 photo and then asked if he could sign a 1993 team photo that they had at the table and monogram it first Rockies win. He was the first Rockies to record a win. it was on April 9th 1993 at Mile High. The others I had sign my 1993 photo.
Here is Bryn signing a team photo that they had at the table I also got one of them from Rick Mathews and Alan Ashby at the first table. They both had some pre signed ones in front of them.
Jayhawk Owens signing my 1993 photo.
That was the first 3 innings. this is the first look I had of the field the whole game and it was in the beginning of the 4th inning. I than headed over to where I sit.
This is John Garlands 43rd pitch of the game and the first I had seen so is that still considered a first pitch. The Rockies were up 1-0 heading into the inning the Padres did get a run in this inning.
Tyson Ross was the starting pitcher for the Padres.
Evereth Cabrera commits an error on this ball hit by Josh Ruthledge in the 5th inning. The Rox scored 3 in the inning 4-1.
Troy Tulowitzki crosses the plate after a Michael Cuddyer home run in the 7th.
Cuddy low fiving third base coach Stu Coles.
ohh yeah you guessed it, Just as Creepy as last year. OK so I thought of other races that would work well with other sponsors the Frontier Airlines animal race, The Kwall Paint, Paint bucket race have a Black, White and Purple bucket of paint race. Just throwing it out there!! If they do change this I want props!
I think this guy was mocking the running man!
Never a smart idea.
Nice take down!
Dump ass still put up a fight after they caught him.
Always amazed at way someone would do this.
The only cool thing about this is they bring you out through the bullpen!
Dexter Fowler slides into second after a 8th inning hit to right field.
Foot on bag ball in glove glove a 2 feet above Dex…
… there is the tag as he is standing up..
..and was called out.
The argument ensues and out comes Uncle Walt!!! Thanks for that line EB!
dex leaves field as Walt Weiss continues to argue the call. This ump was in horrible position to even make a call at second. I though they said that the umpiring would be getting better this season. Well so far less than a week in it does not seem that way.
This was Walt’s first time out to the field to argue a call.
Not much else happened and here is Tulo throwing to first for the last out of the game.
Todd Helton makes the catch and for the second day in a row at home and fourth time in a row this season the Rockies are shaking hand and hi fiving on the in field!!!
The Rockies were 4-1 on the season after this game. That is great start for a team that was not expected to do much, but this team is a lot different this year than last and we are loving it. I know it is early but things are looking good for the team. I think the change in management and coaching staff is working well. I like Jim Tracey and the others that are gone but something is just clicking this year.
here are a few photos of my autographs
The 1993 Opening Day photo.
The David Neid signed ball. I had him side panel it so there is room for the second autograph, That other #17.
Eric Young Jr. and Senior still need to get EYJ on it. Started a few projects this day!
Well that is it for this one got another one from this opening weekend series.
See you at Coors!!!
